/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
You can try to resist try to hide from my fist, but you know, but you know that you, can't fight the Moon Knight. Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, we are now at the end of Moon Knight and throughout this video we're gonna be breaking down all of Episode 6. It's filled with easter eggs, comic callbacks and we also wanna talk about the rumours of what could be happening next.
Full spoilers ahead and I know it's early so if you haven't checked it out then check out now. If you've been following the channel through the breakdowns then I'd really appreciate the thumbs up this one last time and make sure you subscribe so you don't miss our doctor strange breakdown.
With that out the way, thanks for clicking this, now let's get into Moon Knight Episode 6.
Ok so first off I wanna talk about how this entire journey throughout the season was actually foreshadowed all the way back in Episode 1. Steven's fishtank contained a number of items in it and now knowing what we know these have pretty much set up the entire series. There was the pyramid of Gisa from episode 3, then a journey into a head for episode 4 which could be Duat, the ship in episode 5, followed by the temple of Khonshu and lastly the gates of Osiris.
Really great foreshadowing and this series has been filled with it also in regards to the Moon. Throughout, everytime it's appeared we've had different phases of it and this all comes to a head in the entry when we get Arthur and Moon Knight having their final showdown in front of a full one.
The episode is titled Gods and Monsters which has a lot of meanings. This phrase has been used in a tonne of things including a Lana Del Rey song and also a 1998 movie starring Ian Mckellan. This followed the director of the Bride and Bride of Frankenstein in his last days before his death. He watched his life slipping away before him, realising it was the end. In the Lana Del Rey song Gods are the people we worship such as celebrities and public figures with the monsters being drugs, temptation and evil.
Here it feels a lot more literal with the Gods being the figureheads and the monsters being what both Harrow and Marc were turned into in being their avatars. Harrow of course was formerly Khonshu's and he has spent the series in many ways repenting because of what the God made him do and also because he enjoyed it.
-
Come the end of the episode he's tied up in hospital with Ammit bound to him and this is why Khonshu orders his murder so that the god is finally gone.
Now the episode opens fittingly with the song The End by Earl Grant which recounts the closing of a chapter but how love perserves past this and that it doesn't really end.

    This series I feel succeeded at depicting what makes MoonKnight so interesting and different. I feel if it was way more superheroing people would just have the Batman comparison again. Seeing the fractured workings of Mark's mind is what then makes the hero MoonKnight interesting. I so hope this gets a follow-up. If Marvel is setting up a Marvel knights, I think this MoonKnight would definitely fit working alongside say GhostRider.

    Episode 5 did a great job with that. But I feel this show could have been a lot more. I was kinda expecting a lot more drama an problems to the style of Mr Robot. But meh, it's Disney, I don't know why I was expecting that. Also for me this was like the way they could prove they could make a new season of daredevil, and they just showed how watered down their products are.

    The series felt like a true origin story, which Moon Knight has origins but he never had the pleasure of getting one in a TV show or movie until this point. So, its kinda cool. They allowed for a lot of growth to come from the characters; basically just Steven Grant and Marc Specter. Steven is the smart one, but showing him to be more mild mannered is classic. He has his own ark to go through and can become an influential figure later if they continue his story. He doesn't have much fighting prowess, but he is able to take charge when needed. Marc was shielding his heart against others (such as Layla and Steven) and found new strength from both as the ending came. With his abilities as a fighter, Khonshu is definitely going to find a way to get Marc fighting for him again. Jake Lockley is most likely there just to serve as not only a surprise but a means to keep Khonshu there while Steven and Marc want him gone. With him still in their lives, Marc is still technically the Moon Knight. I theorize that (against what others think) Jake will only be able to do so much until a slip-up occurs and Marc or Steven learns the sad truth. I also think that as time goes on, Steven and Marc will re-individualize and allow one to be in control at a time (though they can each take over with no effort as seen in the ending). Now, what would I like to see if a season 2 were to occur? Well, I'd love to see Marc's attempts to stay with Layla while working with Steven. Steven will attempt to grow his business to help support Marc, who might try some heroism himself as a Moon Knight variant with a different suit provided by Steven (that Khonshu will later make his own). And Jake Lockley will be realized by Marc and Steven. Once they know he's there, its different as they can fight for control (as seen in Episode 1-3) while they try to attempt accepting each other.

    I would say there’s a fair argument to be made about wether Khonshu has Marc and Steven trapped in the mental psych ward at the end whilst having them believe their ending, at the same time as having Jake awake controlling the physical body! Such an ambiguous ending and I love it

    It was subtle, but this series also confirmed that the Ancestral Plane really does exist. That means Bastet exists too, and perhaps will appear in the next Black Panther movie.

    I’m surprised you didn’t mention the other implication of the post credits scene. Aside from the apparent merging of Jake Lockley with Mr. Knight’s comic mode of operation; it also appears they’re giving Steven Grant’s(as well as comic Mr. Knight’s) wealth to Jake.

  • @CityPlannerPlaysChair

  • @HyperLuminal

    @HyperLuminal

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@CityPlannerPlaysChair Yeah, it’s very tangled and confusing lol. Though I believe that could be an intentional creative choice to further keep things interesting and compelling(especially for comic fans, as a long time reader I personally enjoy when some creative liberties are taken with adaptation of characters and stories. As long as those liberties are within reason and truly serve the character and story. It’s no fun being able to perfectly anticipate the plot and events of a movie or show because it’s a 1:1 adaptation of source material). But it’s not without precedent, as they all share the wealth Steven has amassed in the comics. But I will add, that there’s still a small issue I’m very curious about with the show concerning resources. So, the show makes a decent point of the barrier between Marc and Steven. Marc mentions that pretty much from the moment of manifestation up until their mother’s passing there was a firm, seemingly impassable barrier between them. There even seems to be some insinuation that Steven entered a period of dormancy at some point between Marc being discharged from the Marine Corps right up until their mothers death. I believe this because Marc mentions being forcibly discharged after “going AWOL in a fugue date”. A fugue state, aka dissociative fugue, present as sudden and unexplained departure from one’s home or location lasting sometimes days, with the inability to recall some or all the one’s time and past behavior. This was most likely and instance of Steven fronting while Marc was actively deployed somewhere so they most likely arrested him for being away without leave and then he was given some type of psychological discharge. He then picks up work as a PMC, and I imagine it would be difficult to succeed in this profession if he was frequently dissociating and swapping consciousness with Steven. The same reasoning applies to Marc’s marriage with Layla. She’s was totally unaware, and they lived together and traveled the world together embarking upon daring and intense adventures. There’s no way any of that could have happened without Steven being dormant. That’s why, when the recent trauma related to their mother caused Steven to remanifest and front, once Marc regained control of the body he immediately went into hiding, ghosted layla , and filed for divorce. Because he knew he couldn’t maintain a marriage with an active alter. So I would assume during that dormancy, Marc may have made a fairly decent living as a PMC under Bushman’s command. He probably lived modestly so I would imagine much of that income was saved. Then, he became Moon Knight and married Layla, and along with meting out Khonshu’s vengeance and Justice, they also engaged in some tomb raiding and sold relics and historic baubles to pay the bills. Then, after that of course Steven got his museum job. But I’m still curious as to where his resources are coming from, Marc most likely hasn’t done any contract work since meeting Layla, and working for Khonshu doesn’t exactly pay. So how is he funding things like Steven’s flat(there’s no way his wage in the gift shop would have enabled him to fill the flat with so much furniture and property in two months)utilities, multiple cellphone bills, frequent travel, train tickets, air fare, multiple safe houses/lockers/caches that are extremely well appointed and outfitted. I really wish they could have addressed how Marc/Steven/Jake bankroll their entire operation.

    There's actually 3 moons in that final shot, representing the 3 personas. One big moon in the sky and two smaller crescent moon adornments on top of the buildings. I also think they planned for the series to wrap up close to Eid as the moon is symbolic of that festival and it is an Islamic festival with Islam being a major religion in Egypt. You even see a muslim family sharing a meal during the Khonsu and Ammet fight. I like that they do the get out thing with the white limo where the number plate says "SPKTR" and inside its lined out red. Basically saying that Jake is the driver of Marks body.

    13:32 Jake represents the Id part of the psyche in psychodynamics. The Id is all about survival and carnality, hence the violent nature when threatened, setting up dates, and punching Steven for kissing Layla. Steven represents the Super Ego, concerns with rules, order, and self-regulation hence holding Marc back when fighting, nit picking about posters. Marc represents the Ego, the part of the psyche is that is most self aware and balances the other parts - like SCALES. No lie, when I studied this my short hand for psychodynamics was ⚖️. The Id and Super Ego are weighed in their own pan and the Ego is the fulcrum (bit in the middle of the scale that can tip the balance). Does no-one else see this?

    I guessed that Layla was going to become a god's avatar however I wasn't expecting the god to be Tawaret. I thought it would be Khepri with all the scarab imagery, but I should have figured it would be Tawaret because she was the only other god to make a prominent appearance in the show.

    @@massivelegend7599 Well, of course my opinion is gonna be in the minority. People are in a fan-high immediately after watching the finale. This fandom is full of children, idiots, and fanboys who can't admit when the MCU botches pacing and aspects of the plot. They act like every one of these movies or shows is the best thing ever when it's new. Hell, people still think Black Panther was an A+ movie, when it was actually pretty mediocre. Every single one of these Disney+ Marvel shows has had a rushed finale. No exception so far. They all needed at least one more episode to actually deliver and stick the landing. This finale literally had two important battles happen off screen. This was obviously rushed.

    It’s crushing we won’t see Moon Knight again for many years to come however this was one of the best shows i’ve ever seen. Phenomenal writing, compelling and loveable characters and a very entertaining plot full of mystery. The end credit scene is a double edged sword in a way, it opens up the possibility of a season 2 but it also ends the season nicely. I really hope we get a season 2 or a movie announced in the next 3-5 years.

    This was such a phenomenally well balanced show, it gave us enough action in the right way and at the right time! I think it was also the MCU getting ready to tackle darker themes and is only the beginning of getting really good story lines that don’t always end in a big CGI fight.

    Loved the episode! Great breakdown. Loved Layla's costume, the CGI didn't even phase me. One correction, while Moon Knight maybe later was part of the Midnight Sons in a later iteration, he was not there at all for the beginning of the Midnight Sons. That happened in the 90s with Danny Ketch Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze, Morbius, The Nightstalkers (which included Blade), and the Darkhold Redeemers.
