One of my all time favourite games on the N64! But you forgot some important points: - First Person camera View with Wheel, etc. - Stupid AI (you can win the later races very easy if you know the shortcuts) - AI can`t use Power Ups - the snow-weather is really cool because the track is complete white after a few laps and you must know the track - the realistic handling is the best, because the trucks feel how trucks and not toys how in newer monster truck games

Sorry that I'm 5 years late, but I love your comment. This game is one of my childhood favorites. My brother and I used to basically live in these levels, and I haven't played many games since that rivaled the feeling of these trucks. I'd say the monster trucks in GTA 5 have similar physics to this game, which is amazing that MTM64 was so ahead of it's time. In my inner childs opinion of course.

I have a real awesome memory of my dad with this vampire. My cousin owned this on PC and we used to play with the psychics engine by ramming deches at full speed to trip out the game and you'd bounce all over like 100 ft in the air. One day on a family trip there was an arcade monster truck game on a hydrollic system. Dad and I went inside. He drove for a bit and it was bumpy and fun then I realized it was this old pc game. So I took over and rammed a ditch. We spent the next ten minute flipping so much we basically got a high off of it. When we got out the operator was so confused on what the hrll we were doing in there. I told him and the line up of people kept copying us. I miss my Dad.

This is the only game my dad ever played with me growing up. He didn't play much, but made up for it by taking us to real monster truck rallies as they were still very popular at the time. The driving physics are very funky, but once you figure it out it's quite enjoyable. The map designs and lack of invisible walls keeping you from exploring made it even more fun just to play around on. Friends, family, and I had the most fun just running all over the maps and of course, Summit Rumble.

I like to think that the hard controls make sense because you're driving a monster truck after all. Of course, minus the fact that you can sometimes fly off the track if you collide with another truck, which is annoying unless you're playing a mini-game.

I used to be wild about some monster trucks. Not sure if you had it across the pond but Monster Truck Madness was a BIG deal here at the time, my dad used to take me when I was a kid and man it was something in person. Seeing the Gravedigger truck on here just brought it all back, They would kill the lights so the arena was pitch black and have it plow thru a wall and tear the course all to pieces with strobe lights and pyrotechnics going off. It would be all I could think about for weeks! I had all the games too. I was so excited when I got the original Win95 one and heard the same corny ass guitar riff you'd hear at the rally in my computer speakers. This one was pretty amazing too. Totally agree with some of your criticisms like the controls but I honestly would have still loved this even if it kinda sucked. I was just tickled to death at the inclusion of rocket launchers and WWF themed trucks. 90's kid heaven right there!

@@n64glennplant Monster Jam had it's day but kinda tapered off here after while too. I think the post-9/11 rise in fuel prices probably had a lot to do with the decline plus people kinda started writing it off as just a hillbilly thing and it mostly went out of style and I guess turned into something smaller. I'm not really sure how 2,000 Horsepower behemoths crushing cars goes out of style in a place like the USA, I'd totally still go. Also, I'd pay good money for something like this on a current system with modern physics and graphics. That'd be a lot of fun I bet.

Let’s not forget that Microsoft literally had their name stamped on the Dreamcast.

Multiplayer on the hockey, soccer, or king of the ring games were the best! I never really liked the racing aspect of it. In the mini games it would get so intense because you never knew what the physics engine was going to do. Sometimes you would slam into someone and they would be launched 50ft in the air and leave them helpless to stop you. My specialty was king of the ring. So much so that my friends stopped wanted to play the game anymore. It’s almost a guarantee that I will win. We’ve even changed controllers because they were convinced that player 1 was given some sort of advantage in the sense that I would almost never get blown away by other trucks when they hit me. We even swapped trucks or I would let them chose my truck and play as player 2, 3, or 4, but I would still beat them most of the time. I wish they had a rerelease of the N64 version on newer consoles so I could play online.

I get that it’s supposed to resemble a realistic feel with how the truck moves but I couldn’t even keep in on the track. I’ve never played a racing game with such broken controls.

The PC game was fantastic! You can still download stuff for it today. It was more of a sim and didn't have weapons. The N64 game wasn't that great.

You want to hear something ridiculous there is a video on KZread that ranks every N64 game from worst to best I believe there are about 296. Let's face it there are a decent amount of kind of crappy games on the system although I do love it and think there are more good games than most people think. But they have this game in like the bottom five or maybe bottom 10 which is silly

Wanna see some biiiig, chunky pixels? Play the original Monster Truck Madness in software rendering mode. Early DirectX games all looked like that and they were all hilariously ugly.

Monster Truck Madness 2 on PC (which this game seems to be trying to imitate) was much better, better graphics, better sound, better everything.

Yeah, this is a frustrating gamer. It's not terrible, but I don't think it's that good either. The draw distance is awful and makes the game harder than it should be, for one thing... and while I did fine the first Monster Truck Madness game for PC okay at the time, neither one are great. I agree, the 'it's not a sim but isn't an arcade game either' control scheme is kind of hard to get used to. Also, and you don't mention this, the developers were so lazy that they didn't bother to include controller pak saving! It's password only, on the N64! What were they thinking...
