Nice. I like the stop 2 go Quartz version where the second hands stops at the 12 and the minute hand advances before it catches back up. Proper swiss railway style e . Pretty cool wall clock version too

I really like it , another piece for my collection , I bought it in my vacation in Florence, interesting design.

If you’ve ever seen the wall clock at the train station, that this is modeled after, you’ll instantly appreciate it’s character and simplicity. Very cool piece, but definitely one to save up for.

This is awesome! I love the generic look, and I mean that purely complimentary. This isn’t a style I’d typically favor but this is just too clean to not be interested. If this were available in a full brushed case I’d be all over it. Thanks for showing this one man, it’s rad!

It’s a really cool design! These do come in different variants including some with brushing and even lume under the hands! They also have a quartz version where the second hand stops at the 12 and waits for the minute hand to advance and then goes back around. You can look that up on YT.

I do like this watch. Probably not for everyone but they did model it after a specific clock which is an iconic design to the Swiss. I get why they didn't mess with it. The second hand is symbolic of the paddles that the railway employees used. They come in a lot of different versions, some have backlit dials like Indiglo I imagine. Some have black dials with white indices and I think they have brushed cases as well. I was looking into them a few months ago. Supposedly they started making them in the 80s! They remind me of the Braun watches which I also happen to like. Excellent review Joe.

Great video, it’s certainly a distinctive watch like no other, it’s an exact copy of the 1944 designed “Official Swiss Railways Clock” which is the clock they use at railway stations in Switzerland, Cheers.

There are two Mondaine models with some type of lighting: the Backlight and Night Vision. The Backlight uses lume on the underside of the hands. And the Night Vision uses tritium tubes.

I need to look up the tritium ones. I saw the underside lume. Some really unique stuff coming from Mondaine including the stop 2 go feature on a quartz version. Very cool.

Thanks for the review. It certainly divides opinion. I wanted a Bauhaus watch, and while many claim a Bauhaus influence, this was the only one that genuinely delivered that aesthetic. Unfortunately the Stop2Go has sold out, but might be reintroduced in the future, so I settled for the basic quartz (brushed case, no date window) as I couldn't wait and I'm not convinced that the fun gimmick is really worth the extra cost. It's pointless criticising the watch for what it isn't. If you want a fully lumed, chronograph or diver then get one and allow the Mondaine to be different. That's why it's an icon.

Can’t argue. If you like the look but need it affordable, they make a quartz for that. They even have a stop 2 go quartz which is a really cool party trick. Look it up. It’s pretty cool.

I can see your point. These clocks are found in the train stations in Switzerland. Lots of heritage with this dial. Not everyone’s cup of tea but definitely cool IMO.

Well, great review as always!! I like the white dial, that seconds hand is a little off putting to me (subjective) but the orange is nice. Not something that screams at me.....I would pass by it for example if I was scrolling through watches on a website. Nothing against the watch, it just doesn’t speak to me. You do though AJ, great review as always m8!

It’s actually red. The second hand is reminiscent of the paddles the railroad conductors used. It’s weird because typically that would be a counter balance.

Some of the version have back light lume.. at the behind the hands

What you’re paying for is an iconic, famous, award-winning Swiss design. The watch is a copy of the Swiss national railway clocks. Totally agree that I’d like to see some brushing here and there on the case.

You should have mentioned the heritage and history of the watch being based off the iconic Swiss railway clock. The letters on the dial represent the railway company in Swiss, French and German. It's not meant to have lume, but is faithful to the design. However, there is a backlight version with light emitting from the back of the hands.

Hate to be a "wise guy". But, to the best of my knowledge; all their Other watches have Luminescence Underneath each Hour & Minute hand - It gives a Unique Glow, reflected off It's White Dial. So Why wouldn't This One ???

Great point! I found this out after filming and was disappointed this one didn’t come with that considering it’s price tag. I said in the review that the lume could be inconspicuous. They were one step ahead of me but for other models though.

You’re not alone. It doesn’t look expensive but it is well made with a nice Swiss movement. It’s A bit of a sleeper and fun watch. Very legible! Would make for a great field watch. My buddy who wears glasses could tell the time across the room. It’s that legible.

The looks are a licensed copy of the iconic Swiss railway clocks that are found throughout Switzerland.

setting the cool design aside, easily the worst Swiss watch I've personally purchased. Needed to be regulated out of the box due to running -30sec a day and the case back removal is a nightmare. If you are thinking of buying one of these from a store/dealer, ask them to put in on a timegrapher first and show you. Very disappointing as I was so excited to get this piece.
