Today we are reviewing a model from Mondaine watches. Mondaine has a cult design mimicking Swiss Railway station clocks, and they are the only brand allowed to use the design.
The simple yet cool design is so good it is exhibited at the London museum of modern art as one of the best designs of the 20th century!
This variant is powered by a swiss made automatic movement from Sellita and comes on a nice bracelet.
As usual, stay tuned for the full review!!
Enjoy the video!!!

Looking at the time twice b/c you were “hypnotized” by the beauty of the watch you’re wearing … us watch enthusiasts can all relate to that!! 😆 Thanks for sharing. Love nice and simple watches and this one’s no exception.

Great design is always immediately recognizable. You think "Swiss Railway Station" in a split second. Classic.

Great video 👍. I would also go for the quartz stop to go. It's very cool. I understand what you mean about looking at the watch and forgetting to check the time. Only yesterday my wife asked me the time, I looked at my new Chronograph I got last week, and admired it. A few minutes later she says to me, you looked at your watch but you didn't tell me the time! 🤪

Don’t know why Mondaine stopped making the “Stop2Go” movement for their watches. It’s still in their wall clocks. The watches are very nice and resemble the Swiss railroad watches. But they no longer “Stop2Go”. Still I bought the automatic glow version without the date. Love all things Swiss. Great country and great people. I have the Stop2Go wall clock and I just love the movement. Not cheap as you can get a wall clock for less than $50. Buy hey, it’s Switzerland! Love Switzerland. Quality, craftsmanship, Care.

Beautiful watch, I had been wanting one of those and reading on Amazon multiple and continue bad reviews on many models of Mondaine, decided to hold until better reviews on the quality and construction of the watch. The negative reviews on this brand on many (if not on all) of their watches on Amazon are very concerning, from durability, time keeping, materials and many other complaints.

I have a Mondaine Swiss Rail Chorno quartz knocking about somewhere in a box. It's a nice piece but smaller than the original Swiss Rail watch. I'll have to dig it out and pop the back off with my vic watch tool. Hopefully the battery didn't leak and make a mess.

I'm may be in the minority here but for watchfaces like this, illumination system like Timex's Indiglo would be perfect rather than placing the lume on the back of the markers.

Their used to be clocks like that at my local Train Station in Kettering but unfortunately the station has been updated and the clocks have been removed

I love the look of this watch and will be getting a version of it but I think it will be quartz! I also like the plain dial, but enjoy a day date complication so that's also what I will be going for ! I just think to be honest they are over priced, but I guess a lot of the price is for Mondaine to use the design by license?

One of the few watches where I would prefer the quartz version since it mimics the real clocks. And regarding the lume, since you can't lume the hands keeping the design, so a lumed dial is the way to go.

Unless you get the "stop 2 go" quartz versions neither the quartz or the automatics correctly mimicks the train clocks. The railway clocks have sweeping seconds so the automatic is probably closer to the real thing than the basic quartz.

There's a lot of confusion about the various Mondaine models, and this video, though generally informative, is no different. I'm pretty sure what you're handling isn't an Evo 2 (MSE.40610), but an Original Automatic (MST.4161B). The confusion is understandable, since all Mondaine faces are incredibly similar, but the Evo 2 has a polished stainless steel body, and the Original Automatic has the same brushed steel look as the Stop2Go. I think it might actually be the same body-both the Stop2Go and the Original Auto have a 41mm width-but without further research I won’t swear to that.

I own two of these: one with - shocker - a black dial and tritium on the hands (the sports) and the quartz Stop2go. The later is so cool especially because it stops at the minute (hence the name) and it's a sweeping quartz! Regarding the lume: I find that when I sleep with the watch, I can actually tell time. Not at a glance, but I can..

@@WatchGeek I got a stop2go as a gift about four years ago, and it had to go in for repair in warranty twice, and it's now completely failed. The second hand was frequently unreliable, either losing its stop position or stopping and starting randomly. Mondaine's official UK repair partner told me they can't do anything about it it because Mondaine don't make the specialised quartz movement anymore, presumably because it's so prone to failure and has to be fully replaced every time it goes wrong! My local watch repairer offered to put a different movement in, just so I could have a working watch, but on closer inspection, the case is made in an extremely specific way and other movements won't fit. I've decided to replace it with the Original Automatic in this video, but with a leather strap, as it uses the very common Sellita SW200 movement. Much easier to repair/replace.
