My Model 89 is my favorite rifle. Worth every dollar that I paid for it. I got mine about 3 years ago when a friend discovered Bighorn and suggested that we order two of them. It's fantastic as a close/mid-range rifle for pretty much anything a person would want to hunt.

That little lever gun is as sweet as it gets. You guys need to build an industrial strength, mobile rotisserie that can handle a whole buffalo. My dad was in the meat business. We once roasted a whole steer like that. A crowd of people watching that thing going round takes you back to the best part of our beginnings. Just start well in advance of the crowd. They can only wait so long smelling that before they go nuts.

How does the .500 S&W magnum compare ballistically to the .45-70 Gov't? As one person has noted, that's an awfully expensive rifle (especially when I compare it to my Marlin Guide gun in .45-70 which I bought used).

Few in American history removed big animals like this for "game/sport." It's an intentionally leading question. Animals die in the wild, of old age, disease, predation, starvation, genetic problems, and more. Managing the animal kingdom does much more good for all species of animals than simply leaving them alone. Animal herds come back from extinction, thrive, the average age can be much younger, more able to reproduce healthy young, and at the same time replenish the vast top soil and vegetation of the west by the participation of the hunter. As a benefit, hundreds of people get to eat the healthy meat from an animal that didn't see a day stuck in a big corporate stock yard.

Sorry to tell you this but all high fence hunting lodges and ranches are basically like that. Ya go out find the herd if there's enough time in that outing ya try and take the one ya want if not at least the herd is located so they can resume the hunt the next morning. It's still very hard at times to sneak up on a herd and take out the animal you have chosen. If the herd cooperates then it successful hunt is complete.
