Extend your Effective Range with Variable Scout Scopes | Big Horn Armory

Спорт

Variable power scout scopes can be a great option on our lever action rifles! In this short video we check out three options for these versatile sights, their features and how the worked for us. This is definitely something to consider for your big bore lever gun! The scopes we tried include the Burris 2-7 Scout Scope, the Leupold 1.5-5 VX-R Scout Scope and the Vortex Crossfire 2-7 Scout Scope. All were a pleasure to shoot and would be a great addition to your rifle. Watch the video and see for yourself!

I have the Vortex on my Rossi 92 in 45 Colt and because of the generous eye relief I'm buying another for my 7 1/2 inch Ruger Redhawk also in 45 Colt. Been shooting with Vortex for years and never a problem. Adding this nine months later. I'm buying yet another Vortex to go on my S&W Performance Center 500 mag.

I've always been a traditional lever action guy. But with ageing and diabetic eye's I could use some help. When hunting I want to make a clean kill.

I got the same configuration. They told me it would take 4 months to build during this pandemic. I got 2 more months to go. Feel like a kid waiting for Xmas. Also got the fiber optic front sight for better sight retention if I decide to go scopeless.

I' ve been thru a few, burris fixed power 2.75 I like, but on the variables, I must stick with the Leupold. the vortex had some cloudy edge going on around 6/7 [power.. you cant beat a Leupold scope for the money imo.

@@bryonworthen8247 The reticle is too thick and obscures the target. There are no ballistic drop marks, so I'd be guessing on hold over. There is no illumination on the scope. The glass quality is, "ya get what ya pay for," which makes me wish I paid for more. It was then first scope I had ever purchased, so I learned a lot.

Hey ummm... you mentioned the Leupold Rifleman Scout. Are you aware of something I'm not? Is this an upcoming model? How did you come into this info? You've got me very excited about it, because the VXR Scout is far and away the best general purpose rifle scope I've used (and I've used a LOT of them). It would be great to have something similar now that the VXR is discontinued.

@@BigHornArmory Ah. Makes sense. The Freedom Scout has similar eye relief and nearly the same magnification. It doesn't have the VRX Fire Dot nor is the glass as high quality. I was hoping you had some inside info that an updated scope with the VXR quality was on the way. Thanks for the clarification.

Can you still see your front sight if a rail is attached to the rifle?

  • @mfoster442

Yes, you can definitely use the iron sights. So with quick detach rings or mounts and the scout rail you can switch back and forth between sight options as needed. It's a very good way to setup the rifle.

Why not make a side eject like the rest of the modern world? When I shoot a rifle I want to feel like I'm shooting a rifle and not my scoped relvover. This is a compromise that I just shouldn't have to make on a $3000 rifle.
