me watching it while giggling and vibing at the same time, my friends laugh at me for watching mlp even though I'm in highschool, now they know its not a kids show.

I mean, Lauren Faust wanted to make an MLP show that wasn't just for kids. It worked. Really well. Really, really well.

Flawed premise aside, it really didn't since the show went downhill after she left and when she was there the show was at its most consistently child friendly. Surprise surprise that was also when the fandom began and was its healthiest. Aside from that , why is something for kids bad? Why are you and so many other people who ironically are into some of the most kid stuff out there constantly still throwing that term around like it's assumed to be negative thing?

Also because you know...kids aren't dumb. They deserve to have something mature once and a while like mentions of anxiety, depression, cause it's real struggles that they'll go through as they get older (Hell kids at the age of 5 can have those symptoms even). All that "Believe in yourself" is good and all that but kids deserve to learn more

I've said this a few times and I'll do it again I love how the writters had to re develop the story mid season cause they realized there were considerably more teens than kids watching the show

Some people have actually pointed out that the 1st season was really the one made for kids, while every other season was made for all ages, while still being kid-friendly…which would explain a lot.

That episode is what actually got me into the show tbh. It just looked so fucked up and out of place for a kids cartoon about colorful magic horses I just had to see if the other episodes were anything like that. "Most" weren't iirc, but they were definitely a lot more entertaining than expected

The only problem I had is the show's tone was a bit confused at times, like the writers couldn't decide if it was solely meant for little kids or for an older audience. They couldn't actually say the word 'death' or 'die' because 'this is a kids show', but I find it hypocritical when the video showed this.

@@shadowspector3611 Death, all other things being equal, is literally never more merciful since living, even in a state of abject misery, is still logically better than non-living. Any attempt to attack this very common sense observation is based on emotions and the manipulation of emotions. However, turning the three of them, not just cozy glow, into stone does seem a bit of a harsh punishment, which is just further evidence that the show really should have never gone there if it was never going to go there competently. It's also evidence that the show is actually far from being all that brilliant, including trying to get things under the radar, when the writers clearly were fighting with each other and to being fair clearly subject to executive meddling. It really should have just stayed with the consistent and consistently good girl show tone it had in season 1 because, newsflash, the girl show elements are what drew people to the show in the first place, not any of its rather lame and lackluster attempts at the 'epic adventure' boy shows are know for doing generally better and more earnestly.

They know parents are going to be forced into watching this show, so they throw a lot of stuff in for the parents. MANY "kids" shows do this. Disney does it, The Muppets, Sesame Street, all of them. Though few of them go quite as far as MLP has a few times. This show can get pretty dark at times. Tangled TV show did as well.

BRO that episode with Trixie and her desperate attempt for attention had me messed up. I actually had to stop watching the show for a little bit because of how close to the real thing that scene was. I'm glad somebody else noticed too.

I used to think that Pinkie Pie was an asshole for taking all the cider but now that I think about it as an adult I realize it was just her way of helping Rainbow Dash overcome her addiction... a true true friend indeed

It's still not that strong for children. The only scene that did seem to me something out of line is that of the naked dragon.

What's your fave parts in this show for little girls guys? Mine is when Trixie attempts suicide purpously, King Sombra puts ponies in slavery, Luna torturing herself, Sending a kid to jail, and more! Self harm, Suicide and sending a kid to jail! So kid friendly and for 5 year olds!

XD THATS SOOOOO FUNNY

After seeing this clip I wish Starlight said "SHUT UP" instead of "QUIET!" It would have maked the scene work BETTER.

You should do this but with Mr blue sky, cause whenever there’s a “kids” show like for example the clone wars, people make a montage pf the show “being for kids” with mr blue sky in the background it’s hilarious, that song is perfect for dark humor.

It's like when you start writing something you don't like, but slowly start to absolutely love it and write twice as much stuff into it

@@dazzrex yeah. i don't think it's not that kids can't take anything, it's just that producers are under that impression. kids can take a lot more than lots of shows give them credit for.

@@ashleyredsheep Actually, the kids individually just would sleep on those moments, because they're not prepared to understand them, I remember watching Scooby-Doo S.A at the age of 9-10 and I recently rewatched it, and lemme tell you I realized about loads of adult jokes that I didn't understand back then...

Everytime I watch the episode about the fruit bats I cackle at the line ‘it’s officially apple bucking day’ cause they’ve already established buck as an in world curse word

That’s a kids show, but kids shows can be good and there’s never anything wrong with watching them

This is the main reason I watch this. Think about it. Most of the fan-favorite series/movie that people watch tend to have SOME adult themes. Take Mulan for example, at the lake, they made a naken man joke with Yao. Pixar's "Purl", included the dumb donkey word, and had some mild adult humor. RATATOUILLE HAS LITERAL SIGNS OF DRUNKNESS AND AFFAIR. Basically, a good show is a show/movie that can attract all audiences. It isn't necessarily bad, you just need to know how much you can limit it. (Also, my little pony also had a huge point in "The Friendship Quest" where it hints largely on solitary confinement)

And starlight was a literally cult leader.

let's not talk about the many depressed pinkie scenes...

0:03 Thanks for Clarifying. It's one of the few shows that can remain Innocent and Safe for most Audiences. Lego Ninjago fortunately is the same way. (Not to mention featuring a lot of the same Actors from MLP too) We don't get many shows that retain that essence we need nowadays to help us get through difficult situations. Despite not watching it all the time (as it isn't always as serious towards characters not being a bit annoying), it's Therapeutic for me, especially when I am High Functioning Autistic. It's a nice show that when I think about, pulls away my stresses, and allows me to recover. Regardless of stuff like PTSD and other various factors the Show has contained in its 9 Season run. All it does, is reassure that problems like that have a Solution that can mend such psychological problems.

Kids shows shouldn't sugarcoat certain topics in my opinion, shows that do those things actually treat kids like they aren't stupid. Tho I don't watch MLP, I'm glad to see they put stuff like that in there once in awhile
