I can't believe you are going to rebuild this Corty. Sort of.. removing the intact metal from the rust. I'm going to love this build. You are a dedicated fella.

Back again. Nice to see the series moving onward. Wow, the fuel gauge sensor inside the tank was in great shape. It's great to have a helper to do some camera work or help out with the salvage. Awesome team work on the front and rear glass salvage. I see you are reusing the old dolly. That was an exceptional idea and an good design. There is always so much to do but you have incredible focus and patience. This sort of project devours a lot of your time and so it is dedication that keeps these episodes rolling. It looks as though this car will need just as much attention and dedication as Swampy needed. Roll on project Bramble!

I have had the Internet down for a couple of weeks so I haven not been able to see this video, but Bramble looks a bit more solid than I feared. And it will be stunner when she is finished. Hope that the dipper will relieve some bad news! Cheers to you , Pete!

Very nice video again. In fact, I have used it to show someone who asked me if it would be possible to convert a P100 bakkie from South-Africa to left hand steering. The firewall and engine compartment are quite similar. I told him that this could be done but it would be an expensive challenge. After watching this video and me telling him what else should be done, changed and replaced he left the car where it now still is, South-Africa. This was also a restauration project as that one is in really poor condition but a good runner.

HA ha, love the Italian job bit at the start. Now to get stuck in. Ok watched it through to the end now, couldn't wait to see it after you mentioned last Sunday at Stratford that ep 2 was almost ready to post up. Was good to chat and hear about the Bramble plan, project now well and truly under way. The torn spot welds may be from splitting panels apart with an air chisel, that's what our bodyshop boys used to do as drilling welds was slow and they were given schedules to meet per repair. Then they'd just planish after to tidy. Respect your knowledge, skill and determination. Chat again at another show or next NEC hopefully. Steve

I've just realised whilst watching this; My Grand Father worked in the Dagenham Ford Plant on the assembly lines until 1973, so chances are his hands were once on this very car. Not sure exactly what he did, but I know he was on Final Assembly and was amongst the last people working on the car before it was driven off the line.

Matthew Godwin and as far as I know the Mk.3 was the last Cortina that was produced in Dagenham. The Mk.4 all came from Germany. This model has been a great succes for Ford. Even Hyunday used the platform for their Stellar. Huynday assembled the Cortina/Taunus for the far east.

Hey man I just gotta say, I'm not a Ford man in any way shape or form, but I always say that Cortinas are the best Fords that Ford ever built. My first car I bought in 1997, when I was 16 was a Blue 1982 MK 5 with a 2.0L and 4 speed. One old lady owner, who had only ever driven it one time outside of the town she lived in, and that was the day after it arrived brand spanking new at the car dealership. It had 6000km on the clock. I wish I could time travel back to the day I got it and convinced my younger self to take it home put it in the shed, and give a small amount of road time every now and then........... instead of clocking up 200,000kms over the next 18 months. Lol!!!! Im quite sure over half of that mileage was only the rear tires. My 17 year old son recently bought a 73 MK3 GT four door, and asked me a silly question. "Dad........ Are the old 2.0 litre engines in these worth modifying??? Or are they just worn out old scrap metal????" LOL!!!!! One week of head scratching and late night welding, and he's now got a M90 supercharged 2.0L MK3 GT Cortina, that leaves a funny look on the face of the local hoons with EVO's and Subaru's.

James wow , that sounds a powerhouse Mk3, any youtube clips~? I think even if you clock up high miles like on your mk5, you can easy restore them back, ive put 70k miles on my collection of mk3s in last 10 yrs, love em. thank you for your interest in the films James, means a lot and thank you for your comment, very interesting and always great to hear first hand stories like yours. thank you. Hi mate loving these videos my dad had loads of them Mk3, 4 and 5 Cortinas and i loved them as a child growing up, Its those cars that got me into being a mechanic. Anyway when you were talking about how ford installed them torsion bars they probably use a tool just like your spanner cheater bar to get more leverage on the bar to install them.

Him Pete.Yes, certainly have a product in mind. rust.co.uk sell a product called phoskleen B. Its an acid that you can apply with a scotchbite pad and it stops the metal from rusting for weeks. When its time to paint, just scotchbrite the metal to get rid of excess acid and paint. No need to follow their instructions to use a chemical wash to get rid of it. Give me a call if you want and i'll talk you through it. Cheap as well. I bought a litre of it from the NEC when I met you that day and i have doused the entire bare metal underside of my camaro with only a third of a bottle. Today we epoxy primed (2 litres) on top of it (after a quick scotchbrite) and 10 litres of gravitek and it looks beautiful. Etched the metal perfectly. Will get rid of flash rust immediately. Amazing stuff. A good couple of hours to get it applied but well worth it. Still looking forward to your visit!!

that inner wing you showed there is proof the mk5 was built to rot, on the inner wing of a mk5 those three raised bumps are open at the bottom and catch water and mud which rots them out, i'm convinced that was changed so they rot no other reason for it.

it depends what you compare it too Øyvind A bucket of dirt comapred to an empty bucket has something , so its all relative. The shell should have been worse than it is. The shell is bad but compared to others in similar circumstances its good. This is what I was referring to. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching the film, Pete, UK
