I love it how careful you are not to destroy parts. So many would have torn into making the build harder and more costly in the long term.

I'm not a big Cortina fan, dad had a mk2 then went Capri then Granadas so never really got he vibe. I saw the first video years ago of Bramble pulled from its name and was awesome, now here after the Rover graveyard video. What an amazing job. Last year we restored our Mk2 Golf and for the past 5 years restoring a Lancia. I can't believe the job you did Pete, seen the start and the end, just putting the pieces together now.

I’m loving this restore! I love the old English Fords. I’m so glad that there’s people like you that care enough to save them and appreciate them for what they are. They’re getting scare. The times I’ve been to Ireland I couldn’t stop thinking “where are the old Cars?” I wanted to see some Cortinas, Anglias, Escorts, Transit vans and the like. Keep up the awesome work man.

Hi Pete... Well I can honestly say that finding your channel a couple of weeks ago has been a brilliant and inspiring experience, I've gotta fess up and tell you I've watched over 80 hrs of your vids since I found you! I to gave up watching normal tv some years ago and would much rather watch hours of vehicle restorations found on YT. I own two mk5 Cortinas tho apart from putting one through it's mot back in May this year and owning a mk3 crayford HON518L aprox 10 years ago I have not driven any Cortinas as a daily driver since the early nineties tho I owned my first cortina a mk4 2.0ltr ghia auto in gold when I was 15 1989. Watching your channel has helped me decide to ditch our Merc C350 and put my crusader on the road as a daily, once I've put some dinatrol through it as per your vid, also I'm going to document/film my cars and work done to them by opening my own YT channel, if I can get my head round it lol Beautiful cars the mk3, especially all yours. Having done two full resorations at home in the past i know how daunting it can be, seeing swampy with no roof or back end must challenge anyone's will power to get on and get the job done, I applaud your absolute determination and clear love for these cars. I shall be Looking forward to Part 3 of Bramble.... keep up the great work, mind the polishing machine (health n safety) ;) Good luck :) Den

Not sure how I stumbled across your page but watching this is like a "Timeshift" for me as a Ford Motor Mechanic in the mid 1970's in Australia working on the TC, TD and TE Cortina's, we had the 4cyl versions here but the 6 cylinder models were stonkers to drive.......We didn't get the 2 door model here... Cant wait to watch all these resto videos to see how you go...

Nice find. We never got the 2 door in Australia only the 4 door Sedan & Station Wagon but we did get the 2 ltr 4cyl. 200 cu-in & 250 cu-in straight 6 Aussie engine that were also fitted to the bigger Ford Falcon range. The 2 doors certainly look great. Here in OZ a 302 cu-in Windsor V8 is a pretty common conversion & you might well imagine that they go like a scared fox.

when we last left pete c, he had just found a mk3 cortina and named it bramble, it was rusted but complete, next we saw inside and went to the classic car show with her running, after that we got a light nude show of her parts and that her orgnial colour was silver fox, her firewall was mint so to was the floor in the fronmt and the boot, only major rust appered to be on the rear pannel, and some rear floor pan damage, then disaster! all set to go but the home for project bramble hit a mony shang when the storage place was sundenly upped in price, join us pete c restored this unloved for years mk3 cortina, "insert british god save the queen here"

The saga continues. Some heavy hydraulic lifting along with some intricate trim removal. A little bit of this and that. With each day we are getting a little closer to the finish line. Countless hours but valued parts being salvaged each day. I noticed some specialty tools that you use. One neat one was the spanner wrench extender. I never saw such a thing before for a spanner. Typically I use another spanner for leverage. I am always amazed at what parts are salvaged in almost new condition while at the same time there are parts in that identical area that nis all but destroyed. I noticed that the glove compartment door is pretty big on these cars. I think it could double as a beer cooler if they had the DC cooling technology applied. HAHAHA. I am glad they incorporated the steering wheel safety technology on these cars. It is interesting how you figured out how to keep that safety feature in tact while still stripping everything down. You really got a good downpour of rain that day. It was also a great thundering audio day as well. That T storm really does freshen the air and cool things off I bet. I am really wanting to see episode two now when I get some time. Thanks for sharing once again Pete. All the best and God bless.

I admire you for the job. To fight the rust before it comes, there is one solution : To prevently put some grease every where you can in the hidden parts of the car: inside the door, between carpet and métal, on the rear and hidden side of the bumper... Where you Cannot put some grease you can have oil poored : inside rear wings for example. Grease/oil are the lonely things really efficient again the fucking rust. A good thing to avoid that the rust continues to eat the métal. I have a 1972 Ford taunus and there is nearly no rust on it thanks to that. I am french and i hope that my french is understandable.

Instead you are on a 43 inch smart tv in central florida!!!! In a stonking great thunderstorm like you've never seen. I was cruisin the old highway 192 at the time. Scarey. No cortinas over here im afraid. Not seen one anyway...yet. In fact not seen any classics at all, american or british. But popping over to kissimmee old town friday evening for a muscle car show (post 68), so should see some beauties. Anyway, the Pete magic is back and im following. All the way. lol! Good car show but most were 2005 + chargers, challengers and mustangs. Not much classic stuff apart from a 1980's buick grand national. Beautiful car. In 2 weeks only saw a 1968 caddy coupe de ville (HUGE by even american standards) and a 68 pontiac firebird vert. Don't know about a jet setter though. Back to the east coast (cleethorpes) next week to our holiday home (static 'van)!! Get some peace after 2 weeks driving round florida and visiting 1million theme parks in 1 million degree heat :-)

I shall bear your comments in mind, thank you from Pete

It's very interesting to see what parts of the exterior trim were removed when she got her Maize face-life, and quite surprising too. They removed the B-pillar trim which is held in with rivets but didn't remove the side trim below the rear side windows which is just clipped in. Very strange...

Plenty of original parts still in place and plenty of factory Ford blue paint left on the hot parts of the engine strongly suggest that this one hadn't seen all that much work before it went to sleep, and that it was probably well-maintained by someone who knew Fords very well. I'm really looking forward to seeing Bramble come apart and come back together with her having started off life in my neck of the woods...

  • @gosportjamie

+Pete C That was definitely early in her life then with it all being Ford genuine parts. Of course it could be due to corrosion caused by the Silver Fox failing and letting the rust bug in and it being quicker to replace the effected panels before it got the Maize Yellow paint job than to spend the time repairing or rubbing back the panels to create a flat base for the new paint. If the car spent a lot of its stationary time parked in a car port with the right-hand side up against a house and the left-hand side open to the elements then the left side could have suffered from rust that the driver's side just didn't get exposed to as the Silver Fox went bad, especially with a lot of the area she was registered in being exposed to sea air...

In Australia the Cortinas were given code letters from your MK3 yours is classified as a TC Cortina . The dual headlamp grille was only used on the Six Cylinder straight six in 200 cubic inch and 250 cubic inch models, besides the dual headlamps ,it is distinguished by a bulge in the bonnet . Unfortunately with the heavy cast iron six in them, they were great in a straight line......atrocious on bends.
