Kill Switch In Your Classic Car

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

How to install a kill switch in your classic car. If you have a mechanical fuel pump in your classic car you probably can't do the traditional kill switch in car method. This is my preferred method of protecting my classics from getting stolen.

One tip if you do this: Some time in the future if your vehicle doesn't start, check this circuit. Even though I used a HD quality switch, the switch broke internally and would only fail occasionally, took me a long time to track it down. It's good to have one still.

The other reason for doing this is to allow electrical work to be done with the key engaged and if you forget, since you were working on the car not driving it, and walk away the coil doesn't get so hot it burns down your house.

Dude I like it. I bought this thing that mounts under the hood. It disrupts the flow to the battery. It's big and bulky but it has a remote control on it. So it's cool is, I can use the key fob and shut it off when I go somewhere and then there won't be any power. I haven't installed it yet. It was 35 bucks back in the day. It's probably 50 nowadays with this stupid economy. Would you recommend that thing or your kill switch? Just wondering. Awesome video again brother. Thank you

It sounds like a cool concept, but I would always recommend a mechanical switch over a remote. As a guy who has installed A LOT of Bluetooth underglows, those remotes are often finicky, and the batteries tend to die all the time. Annoying when you’re trying to show of your lights on Main Street, REALLY annoying when your car won’t start. 😅

hi I want to smog my car, that's all i need to legally drive it, although i had to disconnect negative battery and reconnect it, when ready to go..but now my guy tried installing a kill switch with wire from an auto parts store, so i guess he accidentally did it backwards and burnt the wire I smelled it a little.. I just want to go back to how I could disconnect negative battery terminal and reconnect it when i'm ready to go... how bad is the fact we burnt that wire, he told me don't drive it the next day, I can't get ahold of my buddy... pls help i want to smog it i'm just scared to drive it since he said just don't drive it the next day by the way the car runs very good, it'll pass smog, but yea this was 3 days ago can you help? if he didnt say don't drive it the next day I would take it to go smog. I only have until 6-6-23 to complete smog pls help

  • @grandam

Yes. The same thing happened to one of my 78 Regals. It gave me signs that the switch was bad before it did what yours is doing. Got to work and couldn't kill it. Mine would stay forward on startup and I would have to manually click the switch back one notch or the starter would stay engaged 😬 I replaced the ignition switch and had no more troubles.
