Minoxidil hack: how to use it without getting your hair all greasy.

Ғылым және технология

hairdoctorflorida.com/
Minoxidil is an effective and safe treatment for various types of hair loss (or alopecias). Available over-the-counter, it is inexpensive and easily accessible. But many people give up on it because it may make hair greasy and oily. This is particularly true for women and men with long hair.
Dr. Barusco has devised a simple and quick "hack" to apply Minoxidil to the scalp that will eliminate or minimize the greasy effect in the hair, therefore allowing its use and benefit. The technique is explained in the video.

    @@HairLossMedicalAdvice Hey dr. barusco i recently bought a monoxidil (for 3 months) and should i say this is a helpful video. I was wondering how to use it. Are there any chances I end up losing more hair because I am in my early twenties and my dad was sceptical about it.

    @@armando6829I know it’s a year later but NO there is no chance that minoxidil will cause you to lose more hair. As someone who noticed their hair thinning in their mid-20s, I WISH I started minoxidil (AND finasteride!) at your age because then I could have FROZEN my hair loss where it was. Anyway back to your question: the only thing you need to know about minoxidil is that it typically causes increased SHEDDING (not hair loss) within the first few months of use but that goes away and then you start growing more and more hair after about 4 months or so. Shedding just refers to the hairs that fall out during showers and stuff. It is NOT permanent. Disclaimer: I’m not a doctor, I’ve just researched this topic quite a bit.

    3 years of using minoxidil I've learned. #1 is I learned the two-bit 4 drops they ALL say to use is ridiculous. Does not fully cover the scalp. I only saw results after using two full droppers worth. And I got zero side effects. Don't bother with gloves. People act like minoxidil is some all powerful drug that will kill you and make hair grow where ever a drop falls. It does not! It takes 5 month of continued application to even begin to see results, so a little drop or running down your face won't do a thing to you. Don't bother with the foam. Definitely throw away the sprayer. Use dropper. It's not oily. I've used Hims, Keeps and Follixil. Maybe other brands are. Only wash your hair twice a week. Use derma roller once a week and I definitely used minoxidil immediately after rolling. I've never had any side effects, even with doubling the dosage I believe most of the side effects are psycosymatic and people get all worked up into believing they'll get the dreaded side effects. It all in their head. Minoxidil was originally a simple blood pressure medicine to be taken orally. A few drops on your head won't hurt.

    Hi I just started using minoxidil I bought the liquid 2% I wanted to make sure there are no immediate side effects. I may upgrade to 5%. Doing this twice a day is very inconvenient. The dropper is pretty useless so I got a thin 1 ml syringe and that is perfect to control the drops that come out. I use my thumb and index finger to pull the stem of the syringe down while holding the syringe in between middle and ring finger instead of pressing the top button, like giving a shot. This works great. Total control of drops.

    I find that method to be wasteful, as a lot of the liquid soaks into the cotton, and never transfers to the scalp. Just use the dropper to place a drop at the scalp. Some of it is going to migrate up the hair shafts due to capillary action, but it can't be helped.

    Yes you're overdosing. It shouldn't exceed more than 1 ml as the recommended dose cos it may affect your blood pressure level. I sometimes use 1.5 ml but I am always careful to use 1 ml. I just put some drops in the middle of the head and rub over it and some on the front part and rub over it. Don't feel like it's not applied all over, as it's thinner than water and it spreads all over the head wherever you take your fingers to massage on the scalp.

    You may need to see a dermatologist as they often deal with female pattern hair loss and you may need the more effective oral anti-androgen medications (that block the effect of testosterone we all have in small amounts, and this causes the hair loss near the midline part area in women). The dermatologist can look with a magnifying glass and look for 'minaturised' hairs indicating this cause. Also your usual doctor needs to exclude other causes if it is more diffuse, generalised hair loss such as iron deficiency, underactive thyroid etc by blood tests. These conditions are easily treatable.

    Doesn’t the q tip absorb the minoxidil? And what happens if i “contaminate” the liquid with the same q tip?

  • @HairLossMedicalAdvice

    @HairLossMedicalAdvice

    Great questions! The q-tip will absorb a small amount of the minoxidil, but it is not enough to prevent enough product getting into your scalp. To avoid contamination of the liquid, don't touch the flask with the q-tip. Try to drip the minoxidil into the q-tip without touching it.

The shedding has drastically slowed down. Thats my photo to your left this past April 2021. if this is from processes such as perming or bleaching/coloring it to a lighter shade, check with your hair dresser re treatments and moisturising products (shampoo, conditioners, treatments) for the hair. These may help. Avoid heat on the hair too and don't brush when its wet.

    WOW,, you made what is a really easy way to apply Minoxidil very labor intensive and way more difficult. This is correct more efficient EASY way to apply Minoxidil. 1: use the foam as is drys quicker than the liquid and doesn’t feel as greasy as the liquid, PLUS the foam has no PG that can cause skin irritation. 2: squirt the foam into a small baby food sized glass jar then place the lid on the jar. 3: run some warm water onto the glass jar for about 60 seconds which will turn the foam into a liquid. 4: use an eye dropper to apply the Minoxidil/Rogain directly on to your scalp, no cotton sticks or gloves are required and no sectioning the hair is needed. I’ve been applying Minoxidil/Rogain foam like this for years and it works great and keeps the rest of your hair from becoming greasy or sticky. Using small drops of the liquid all over your scalp will prevent the liquid from dripping onto your face or the back of your neck. I really hope nobody does this Q-tip method your suggesting as it’s way more difficult than the easy steps I just mapped out.
