In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzread.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Then followed your 24 volt wiring video and boom done. Had it on water first time after install yesterday. Everything worked great. Thank you sir for plain simple no bs approach! 👍👍

I would want a 24v you can run the same wiring .. it’s a tight fit but you can fit 2 batteries under the helm.. you have to cut the inner lip that is rolled up inside the console. You can run a 12v but in wind or current it won’t last very long..

Great tutorial, kind sir! One area I didn't see was the battery hook up. Did you use two fuses (one each) or can you slave the batteries together by connecting + to - then using the one fuse that comes with the Sun Tracker? Also, does the plug that comes with the Terrova 80 fit the female receptor on the boat (I have the 20' Fishin Barge and the Terrova 80)...so it should be the same? Boat is in storage, but it may be nice this weekend for the install and want to be ready...thanks again for your help and guidance!

I am going to need to run wire from the bow to the helm. If I run it along the top of the pontoons, what would be the best way to run the wire? Is there a way to take off the rails or the seats in order for me to run the wires through the deck. Thank you again.

    3 жыл бұрын

Thanks I’m glad it was helpful! I have never heard anything about it voiding any warranty.. if anything at all it would only be if damage occurs from what work you did .. that part of the warranty would be void.. but never heard anything about putting a trolling motor on voiding a warranty.. who told you that? They are sold with fishing packages intended to be mounted.. I would say they are mistaken.. you can always call the factory and get clarification.. thanks for watching and let me know if you have any questions..

Really...? Mind telling me at what store? Because the only difference is if we install it and you have a problem with the install it is on us ..if you do it yourself it would be on you.. like say something doesn’t work.. or it gets fried or something.. but it wouldn’t matter who drills holes in the floor.. I will look for clarification on it .. but I have heard many times if you have work done or did it yourself.. and that work it where the damage is or starts from warranty could possibly not cover it.. and it’s just that part.. not the whole boat warranty or rest of the deck..

Awesome job, thank you for posting this. All of know how much work is put into making and editing videos. Plus you do really nice work! Couple questions, please forgive me if you already tackled these!!! I am buying an 18' Sweetwater Cruiser and will be outfitting with 24v trolling for fishing. I am ordering from the factory and can get trolling motor plug installed... so... Question 1: Why did you choose under the helm for the two batteries? Was the single battery the factory option that you replaced with 2? Question 2: I will definitely install the multi bank charger and understand running the line back to the cranking battery. However we intend to dock the boat with no shore power. Will the engine return power back through the charger and charger the trolling batteries? If not do you recommend a device to enable that? Thank you!!!!

Awesome congratulations on the new boat! Glad you like the channel! So to answer your question it depends on a couple things.. one is price of a 4 bank can be up there.. and 2 location of the batteries.. because most likely you will have to run charger leads and extensions to them.. but if you only have a location to mount 1 battery charger then a 4 bank would be your only option. Long answer just to say .. do whatever works best for you and your boat and your budget. Because it would work the same either way.. thanks for watching the channel and if you have any questions please let me know..

Please help me out here. I'm considering doing this project, but the mounting plate on the trolling motor, the half that stays on the deck when the motor is off: what is the best method of not having that a tripping hazard or slicing up your feet if you step on it? I recently purchased a used 18ft pontoon for a song. There is nothing wrong with it, and it is great shape! I'd like to use it for fishing in the early spring months, and for playing during the hot summer days. My two small children would likely be tripping and cutting their feet on the exposed plate. I'd hate to have to remove that plate EVERY time I want to take the trolling motor on and off. If thats the case, then why a quick release mount?! So, what do you do with that bottom plate when the motor is not on the boat?

A 80lb terrova would work just fine like this one in the video.. but if you want even longer trolling times you could go with a 36v . But sometimes with a 36 the door can hit the motor when stowed.. depends on how the door is .. sometimes they clear.. let me know if you have any questions.. thanks for watching ..

Thank you for your video it helped me greatly to complete my install on a 20 ft pontoon just like the one you did the install on. One question though, I installed my on-board battery charger in the same location you did (basically identical install) under the console. After reading through the owners manual it states that the charger should not be mounted above the batteries due to the fact that batteries release gases which might damage the charger. From your experience has this ever happened to you; charger damaged by battery gases? Should I look for another mounting location or I shouldn't worry? Thank you so much for your expert opinion and I greatly appreciate your guidance with the videos.

Question for you. My 2022 Sun Tracker Fishin Barge only comes with 1 cranking battery. I purchased a Kinn Kota Riptide Terrova 24 volt trolling motor. I have watched several of your videos, would you recommend adding a 4th battery to be the house battery or would the 2 x trolling motor batteries be the house battery? Thanks so much, your videos are a huge help to a new boat owner.

  • @ReelLifeFisherman

Keep trolling motor batteries separate from your cranking or house batteries.. keep them just for the trolling motor.. now if you need a house battery that depends on how much time you normally plan to sit with the engine off and running electronics.. if you do that a lot I would recommend a 4th battery and a battery switch. Excellent video! Thanks for posting this. Question- I saw in an earlier comment/reply that this is a 60" inch shaft trolling motor. Is that plenty long enough in your opinion? Would a 72" shaft be overkill? My pontoon actually has a 2' front deck (from the front edge of the deck to the beginning of the playpen fencing), so depending on which shaft length I decide to go with, I will only be looking at roughly 3' or 4' "intrusion into the playpen area of the pontoon.

FourWheeler575 is the main thing I would consider is what style of fishing you do most.. and how long you want to fish for.. if it’s all day constant trolling for trout or kokes or something like that.. 36v might be better because with a 24v you may only get 5 hrs maybe a little more or less with wind and stuff.. but if you bass fish and aren’t always on the trolling motor.. it would be fine.. let me know if you have any questions.. anytime.. thanks for watching..

Reel Life Fisherman thanks for the information. We mostly fish for bass and maybe walleye every now and then. Usually we fish for 5-6 hours.

Then the 24 v will probably be just fine for you sounds like.. no problem at all.. tight lines!

Reel Life Fisherman thanks. One more question. Did you keep the stock trolling cable/plug or replace it? I saw you mention it being setup for 12v, but I didn’t see you change it.

You can leave the factory plug it’s rated for 24v you just need to add another battery tray .. and 2 batteries.. they factory tray is a group 27 I personally would run 2 group 31s and get the bigger trays to go with them.. then wire the batteries in series..

We typically run a 60” but 54” will work.. just most of the 24v and up only come in 45” or 60”or 72” .. thanks for watching let me know if you have any questions

Any idea what length shaft is best for a MayCraft 1900 for saltwater use? 2-3 ft waves are the norm. Does the heading sensor wiring get run to the trolling motor or just a 12V connection? Can the I Pilot link wiring run with the 24V battery wires from the motor to the helm on a center console? the wires will be running in the same chase. Thanks for the information, and helpful videos. Thanks for watching the channel! So you’re going to be running a i-pilot link with a humminbird networked it sounds like ..? So you would need to hook the heading sensor to it’s own 12v power source.. not the trolling motor batteries.. usually mounted at the helm or near the transom.. as far as shaft length.. hard to say without seeing the boat in person.. but either a 60” or 72” is your only options.. with with swoop up on the bow I’m leaning more towards the 72” just to be safe .. especially in the rollers.. I have put several 72” on north river sea hawks offshore 24’ ..

And yes running the network cable with the power wires would be fine.. the sonar cable would cause interference if ran with the power wires.. if you want to measure the shaft length.. measure from the bow to the keel straight down.. let me know that number and we can go from there.. thanks again for watching

Thank you for your assistance. I measured 43 inches from the top of the gunnel to the water line.

Ok if it’s 43” from the gunnel at the bow to the keel at the bottom of the boat then a 60” shaft would be just fine.. and a 72” would be overkill.. keep in mind you might have to make a plate to get the trolling motor level at the bow as best as possible if your bow has a raise to it.. let me know if you have any questions

43 inches is the top of the gunnel to the water line. The keel is below the water line. I'm thinking 72 inch might be my best best to keep the prop in the water. Thanks again for your help. I really enjoy your how to videos. Have a Great Labor Day!!

There is a lock hole in the bracket.. put a padlock through it and they can’t slide the bracket apart.. or just take it off the boat and take it inside.. thanks for watching and commenting. Let me know if you have any questions about it..

Mr Reel Life, I'm sorry if I'm bothering you with my questions, but I respect your opinion and knowledge. Can you please assist me with these questions: I have a single outboard with two AGM batteries connected together so they charge off the engine alternator. I'm installing a trolling motor which I will add two 24 volt AGM batteries. I want to add a 115 volt battery charger to charge all four batteries while I'm not using the boat especially keeping the battery charged for the bilge pump. My questions are: 1). do I install two double bank battery chargers or a four bank? I'm curious because in my slip I only have a single 115 volt outlet and I don't want to blow the circuit breaker. I need to find out if its on a 15 or 20 amp breaker. 2). I'm reading a 4 bank charger is 40 amps. I'm thinking if three or four batteries need charging at the same time it would blow the dockside power breaker. 3). i'm planning to install the two trolling motor batteries in the center console along with the battery charger. Will this work, and should I add venting? 4). I need to add wire to the battery charger to reach my two main batteries which are located in the transon area. Can I safely lengthen the battery charger wires from the charger to the batteries? 5). Which battery charger brand and size would you recommend to keep the 4 batteries fully charged? I'd prefer not to have to charge two batteries at different times as I'm not at the boat on a daily basis. I'm looking to install a marine receptical that I can plug the extension cord into. Thanks for you time in responding, I really appreciate it

Thanks for watching the video! So let me try and answer your questions and I’ll send you a link to the charger I would recommend.. 1) so that is really up you and the room you have available to mount a 4 bank ,they are pretty big.. I did not have the room for one on my boat.. so I run two 2 banks and run them on a splitter sometimes.. I run them off of one 120 outlet no problem.. 2) that is just what it puts out .. again I run mine off the same type set up 3)yes it will work as long as there is room .. and you should allow venting.. either by opening the access door and or installing vents.. agms are sealed so that is good too.. 4) it is just fine to extend the leads.. make sure you cut and install the fuses at the batteries.. lengthen them with 12ga or 10ga marine grade duplex wire from anchor marine.. the charger manufacturer will want you to use their extension kit.. but it’s not necessary.. use the correct wire and heat shrink butt connectors and it will work just fine and you can cut them to length.. 5) I would run the Minn Kota precision 4 bank if you have the room.. I’ll send the link Thanks for watching hopefully that helps.. and let me know if you have any questions

I'm getting ready to order anchor marine grade flat duplex dc tinned wire. I need to run approx 13-15 feet from the charger to transom batteries. Which gauge wire would you suggest? Thanks again
