great video but what is the make and model of the ski tower ??
If I'm trolling for salmon, my engine and downrigger would be constantly running. Is the solution to hook up the downrigger to the crank battery? Or have the DR hooked up to deep cycle battery and have the switch on 1&2 so the engine runs and the downrigger is also running?
That thing falls out in the gravel and grass and it's gone! Ask me how I know. Greatly informative! Thank you! Hope you are enjoying your new trolling motor and catching lots of fish!
I agree !
running your switch in 1 and 2 does the same thing when your motor is running. Once you turn you motor off and are on anchor, etc, turn your switch to number 2 position so you are drawing off the house battery and not the starter.
Very cool video and information. That canned YT music is just the worst. 🙄😑. I know it's not your fault
This is a great video, I have a pontoon with a 50hp yamaha 2 stroke, and my question is where would I attach the charger/regulator of of the motor? The bus bar? The starter battery (but then deep cycle would not change). I was going to mount a small 40w solar panel off the back with a charge controller thinking it would help deep cycle stay charged, but my hunch is I would connect it to same place as engine charger/regulator. But still uncertain where that would be. Any help would be greatly welcomed.
Also is there a link to the wires and connectors you are using ?
You said the ground connects to battery ground ?? I have a Volvo penta 5.0 having trouble identifying where my ground will go ?
Quick question 2 marine batteries Perko 4 way 1-2 off and both switch Negatives from battery are bridged together with motor ground How come I have continuity between postive and ground even with the perko compeltely take out?is that normal? Everything seems to work just fine. Just wasnt sure. With perko in place. 1-2 post have continuity even when the switch is off.
I have the same motor. It hasn’t ran since I had it winterized in the fall.. I put the muffs on it but I didn’t get any water out of the telltale.Maybe ran it for 3-4 minutes . talked to the shop that winterized the boat and they indicated that if there was an issue with the impeller, they would have let us know in the fall. Could I “push” water through the clean out by the motor up and down switch on the left hand side? Or maybe gently insert a short piece of weed eater line in the telltale? Never having put muffs on before, I’m not even sure I had them on correctly. I did have some water coming out of the prop. Thanks!
is it sturdy out on the water when loaded with rods?
great video thanks. Question. I have a noco 3 bank charger. Banks 2 and 3 charge the 2- 12 volt batteries for the 24v electric up front. Bank1 goes to the starting and house battery through the ACR. So bank one charges the starting battery first and then switches to charge the House battery. Is there any issue with doing it this way? SO far it has been great but maybe my start battery is too old as the Noco is flashing at Bank #1. I will be replacing the start battery as a first thought.
In this video, are you still running the battery isolator for the crank and house battery?
Who makes that chair, I need one.
I have Volvo penta Gxi 5.0 liter . Can I use this Seadog on mine ??? I was also looking at the Bluesea ACR but if this sea dog will work it appears to be an easier install I think . I haven’t seeen any videos of anyone installing the Blue sea one on my type of set up .
Awesome! Thank you! Does doing this service yourself affect the warranty?
No it doesn't . You should keep the receipts just in case any issues you have some proof that you have done the maintenance . Thanks for watching and commenting I appreciate it!
Great video - very informative. I have an old pontoon that we are working on and I’m going to add the charger and receptacle like you suggested. Really appreciate the tips from experience!
What are the braces underneath the boat That are attached to the tow bar called? Where do you find them.
Hey. I just bought a 2023 mako pro skiff 17cc and I saw you had the same boat and you were a Mercury mechanic. I have been having an issue with my boat where it almost sounds like the prop is slipping but it only does it between 3-4 thousand rpm. The mako plant is trying to say that is how the boat should be. But obviously no boat should run like that. I was curious if you had any input?
Does it matter which battery I connect the negative bus bar cable too when the two battery negatives are connected already?
By far most helpful boat wiring vid on youtube! 👌
Hey J, I've watched this video like 15 times. Me and the family want to go to Buck's and want that same spot you had with your family. Do you remember which campground it was? (Long drive from CH as you know) and we loved the way it looked! Hope all's well out in FL.
It's the one before the one with the boat ramp on the river arm of the lake .. I can't remember what the name of it was but I can find out.. it was a nice spot!
@@ReelLifeFisherman yes looked great! Thanks for the reply. Tight lines.
Great video. When you say "bump start" do you mean use the key? Wont the motor start? I'm doing mine this weekend
Yes use the key or a push button start jumper if you have one .. I've never had a problem using the key method but to be on the safe side unplug the crank position sensor on top of the engine at the flywheel. There is a two wire connector there red and white wires. The engine will turn over but will not start.. the risk you run not unplugging it like in the video is if the lower shifts into forward and the driveshaft engages in the engine, it can try to turn in your hands and hit you if the lower is not on the studs when it engages. This has never happened to me in my 10 years of experience but it is a possibility.. so to be on the safe side unplug the crank sensor and just have someone use the key bump it to start then back off as soon as it turns .. do this until it lines up. Let me know if you have any questions.. thanks for watching
Does the alternator just charge whichever one is switched at the time? Or is it charging both simultaneously?
Trim down that kicker, get it out of your way
Thanks for your time BUT Where does the positive and negitive wiring go to the outboard electric starter ?
I say in the video exactly where they go.. BUT you must have not caught that.. the positive from the engine goes on the output of the battery switch and the negative goes on the negative post of the cranking battery. Then a negative jumper between the 2 battery negatives . Thanks for watching
Very good man I learned a lot. Awesome!
amazing explanation!!! waiting for your full seminar version 🙂
Is that a nasty burn on your right forearm?..Looks bad..yikkes
Very very in detail!!
Incredible 100 hour annual service walk through, the best I’ve seen by far, THANK YOU!👍
Good tutorial, thanks. Simple comments like “industry standard" are incredibly helpful for weekend hacks like me that don't know anything.. I can F up just about anything, but knowing I'm at least using the right stuff helps a lot. Again , thanks
I know a little more then I did yesterday. Lol. Thanks
Constructive criticism, why not epoxy some marine grade plywood to the transom and mount the charger, etc to it with wood screws. That charger is going to fail and the owner or yourself is going to have a hard time finding a replacement charger, or other components that have the same hole pattern for mounting. Then you or the owner will need to fill those holes that are now not in use.
Probably a stupid question but would it be different placement on a trihull
This doesn't show a connection to the engine. How would or how do these two batteries get charged? Do they both get charged at the same rate from the engine of the boat or do you have to charge the house battery via a different means?
First time here. Great info. I'm saving it for future reference!
What year is this motor?
My grandmother would say, " Dat boy just smelling his own ass, in front of them whytefolks! He ought to be shame of his self!"
Hey bud quick question.. would you happen to know if drilling the holes for transducer etc. void the Makos stem to stern warranty? On the Hull
HELP!!!!! My last fishing trip, my Minn Kota Ulterra "paused" while deploying once it raised up to a vertical position. Mr. UnlikeU, I tried what you showed in this video and all I could get it to do was lower the shaft, not raise it and not allow me to stow. Unfortunately I have a tongue mounted step directly below the trolling motor while on the trailer. If I go down another 1/2", it will bottom out on the step. Any suggestions how I could get it to stow?????? THANK YOU!!!! Reply
I would recommend removing the step and go through a trim stow reset procedure. See if that fixes your issue.
@@ReelLifeFisherman thanks. I wish I could...its welded in place. II tried poweing it off and then going through the reset but no luck there either. I will NEVER own another Ulterra.
I won't either I sold the boat I had it on and my new boat I have the terrova. You can try taking it off.. a pain if it's not on a quick release. And try some tests on the bench or take it to a shop.. if it deploys and latches and will trim down and not up it's probably the trim motor.. and the new one comes with a belt..
But it could be a couple of things..
My buddy fishes at Bucks Lake quite a bit and just memorial weekend 2024 caught a 15 1/2 pounder but has caught fish in that lake is big as 28 pounds in 2022.
Thank you from a brother from another mother
I plan on adding a HF and VHF radio in my Boat.
Have the same radio. Just installed it. This thing doesn’t have channel 22 Alpha.
Hello. I have a bass boat with 3 batteries. It’s a sportsman 1610 with a 24V minnow kits trolling motor. My boat have accessories, live well, bilge, 70hp motor. Gauges ie, temp, speed, battery. I also have a 3 bank on board charger. I need to replace my batteries. My question is, my 2 12V batteries are hooked in series. Do I want anything beside the motor hooked up to the “cranking battery “? Should my trolling motor and everything else be hooked up to the other 2 batteries? I can’t find and online or in my book to properly hook up my boats batteries.
Minn Kota, not minnow kit…auto spell strikes again
If you turned the impeller clockwise upside down, when you install it. It is backwards.
I watched your video saying not to switch batteries from 1 to 2 with the engine running. I have always done this while the engine was running to charge 2 if it was low. I didn't want to turn engine off and then have to start it again on the weaker battery 2. This is a bad way to do it?
I agree, about to post my lower unit service quickie video and this is so good I am embarassed to show mine now.
