How To - Choosing & Installing a Minn Kota Terrova
Спорт
Join The Fisherman's Jim Hutchinson, Jr. as he hauls his 20-foot center console for a week during the summer of 2019 and into the shop at Octopus Yachts in Wall Township, NJ for a custom install of a Minn Kota Terrova trolling motor.
If you've been considering the addition of a Minn Kota outfit, you may find this 25-minute video segment helpful - from parts review, to onboard survey, and ultimately the final installation and 2019 pricing. Keep in mind that prices for products and services included in this video have changed since 2019 (and yes, Hutch's ongoing little project boat has also been updated since '19 with new Suzuki 140 DF, a leaning post, rocket launcher, and yes even a little washin' and waxin').

I have the same boat and a 72 inch Motor Guide. Thank you for this video!! I was trying figure out how to run the power wires, you just saved me a ton of work. again.....THANK YOU!!!!
So glad you made this video to review all the details of this installation. The minn kota trolling motor is definitely on my wish list for my center console. Many thanks John Stanchfield from Salem
First class set up, nice job. Very professional. Awesome.
Best video on how to choose the right motor. Thank you
Awesome video Jim!! I just sold my 25' Sea Fox that I slipped in Cape May since 2014 and I just brought home my 23' Carolina Skiff DLV that I plan on using in the back (and out front on good days) a few towns north of the Cape. Definitely going to install a Minn Kota Riptide Terrova on the new rig. This video definitely covered every point and situation that would lend toward the best and safest install. Thanks again brother! See you on Facebook!!
I also have an angler and I need a new trolling motor. Great video. Thank you Jim!
Excellent video. Thank you Jim.
great video! truly inspirational. thank you
It was very helpful to me. Great video hope my trolling system looks and work as well as yours.
You are living the dream bro.👍
Excellent Video I'm purchasing one for this season.
Great video a lot of good information 👍
Top notch work 💪
Awesome video This explained many question one would have. I'm looking forward to having one installed for spring 2020. It's a shame that Octopus Yachts is not in the Long Island NY area. I would have him do the install on my 25ft Chawk. Thanks again for the video
I'm fixing to do a similar install on my cobia 194cc. Very nice install BTW! I'm curious on how much starboard yall used for the entire project? I'm removing bow rail as well and like the hole covers yall made.
Great video guys
Lucky me! I have an Angler 204 as well. Been planning to install a trolling motor. Going to give Octopus yatch a call.
Thanks Boys Great stuff
I'd like to see you add rod holders where the bow rail mounts used to be. It would cover those spots nicely.
Thank you for the great video Jim you helped make my decision. I am definitely getting a trolling motor for my boat(hydra sport 212CC) now to find a local boat yard that's capable if doing the install. Hebron CT.

You find a good boat yard to do it? I’m in northern CT, so just curious who you found.

@@bretttoomanyhobbies7572 ah nice, I’m thinking of doing the 72” / 36V terrova next spring. Its a big investment and I’m a bit hesitant about the added weight, batteries, etc. Have a similar boat to you, 220 outrage, what model trolling motor you go with? Btw, I’m a RHAM 2002 grad.

@@mahimahi45ify I purchased the same one that your interested in. I'm either going to put the batteries where my Porta-Potty is or put them in the cooler which doubles as a seat. The battery charger will be going inside the center console. My son ix a 2018 graduate
Great video, great information. With the evolution of the salt water trolling motor everyday more and more it truly is a game changer all it takes is money tho. That being said, this was a pretty custom entailed job, I think start to finish 5 grand is too much money. Damn near the value of that boat with a trailer.
Very fast at top speed. Built in circuit breaker for fouled prop is a nice feature.
I want my bow rail and don't want to cut it. I have seen other installs where they built an aluminum bracket that allows for the motor and deployment. Really would love to see that video

Friends of mine with Parker pilot house models in particular opted for that installation leaving the bow rail in place; with a center console I chose the removal. I also have a feature in the September edition that mentions how a couple of anglers who wished to leave bow rails modified their install. Don't have that video of course (only one version!) but there are installation pros who can help you configure. -JH
I wonder if they can install a trolling motor for a center console inflatable rib boat?
I just did the install it took about 6 hours.
What batteries did you go with
Hi what wire gauge is being used between tbe series connections on tbe batteries?
Is it feasible to recharge the 36v pack by using the outboard motor's 12v output to a 12 to 36v adapter charger?

I'll tell you I don't know HOW to do it, but I do believe the answer is YES. Might be able to find more here at www.minnkotamotors.com/support/rigging -JH
Your boat is filthy clean it!
Holy heck Jim you and I have the same boat, mines an 01 w/Suzuki 140

I replaced that old Merc with a Suzuki 140 myself just 2 years ago. She's got a few old scars, but have been cleaning her up little by little each season. JH

@@thefishermanmagazine I'm just glad to see I apparently bought a good boat 😄
How much was the install?
How do you know which one to get?
I have a xi5 motorguide. I should have bought a minn kota.
Looks like the nav lights are blocked by your mount.
how much of an investment was this? (Out the door with install)

I put a price slate at the very end for my install - from soup to nuts it's roughly $5,000. -JH

install seems to block the view of the starboard navigation light on the bow.
Man, how much did they charge to do this for you???
What was the cost of the installation, ty?

wow thats some pricey labour. lucky for me i took to shop to fabricate and weld a bow plate to front $250 and laboured my self to do the job. 2k saved = 2k earned.
Despite having all the high tech upgrades, the marine industry is far behind on the battery chemistry. While everything else is now Lithium ion, they still rely on the heavy lead acids.
Don’t see why boating industry won’t take advantage of the lithium batteries. Ebikes using the same wattage, if not more, run on lithium batteries for lighter weight.
Nice if you have a shop and a CNC machine. Doesn't help me at all.
$2430 to install, im in the wrong business
