Minn Kota Terrova I Pilot - Install and testing - Best upgrade you can do for your boat

Ойын-сауық

In this video I upgrade my Water Snake electric motor to a Minn - Kota Terrova 55 pound I-pilot. As I already had the plate mounted on the boat and the majority of the wiring installed it was a simple upgrade. I then test the motor offshore from the Gold Coast catching live baits and small Mackerel. I also get smoked by a large fish all while using the motors Spot Lock feature.
This is not a how to video, just an overview of my upgrade but if you do have any specific questions I will be happy to answer them.
So hope you enjoy the video and if ya did smash that Like and Subscribe button.

    Awesome video, thanks for posting. Been wanting one for a while now. One quick observation on your soldering technique. Hoping you either heated up the wire or tinned it before putting it it that pool of melted solder, you may be setting yourself up for a failure there. Again thanks for posting the video.

    cheers for watching, it has definitely been worth the investment. I have never bothered to tin the wire in that situation. I think it gets enough heat by sitting in the pool. The battery side was done the same way over 10 years ago and has never let me down. Ill let you know if it does fail. Thanks for the tip though.

    Another good video. I'm probably going to get myself a Minn Kota with spot lock, I'm not sure which model as yet. I'm thinking about getting something that'll suit a 4.5 m boat just in case I step up from my 395 Savage. I previously had a Watersnake combat which was good for me until It had a melt down after I added some electrics, which is a bit of a concern. I can't see how it could be related (hopefully just a coincidence). Have you had any dramas with your Minn Kota since now you've had it a while? What was the reason you didn't go with another Watersnake upgrade? Any advice on any of the above? Thanks again for another good video.

    Hi Gary. I haven’t had any problems with the Minn Kota, it’s been working well. I went with that motor as I got it for cheap when Southport trawler supplies closed down. I never had any problems with my old water snake but I don’t think they have as many features as the Minn Kota. At the end of the day I guess it comes down to how much you are willing to spend.

  • @AusAdventure

    @AusAdventure

    3 жыл бұрын

    Mate I think the Minn Kota are better quality but it all depends on how much you are willing to pay. My water snake had the foot pedal which I was stoked on for years but having spot lock now is a real game changer. Not sure how good the Watersnake with a spot lock is as I have never used one. You have to by the quick release bracket seperate no matter which brand you buy. Good luck.
