    What is most impressive and fascinating to me is that both the mink and the dog seem to understand that they are part of a rat-killing team. When the mink has the rat, the dog lets the mink do her thing. When the mink scares the rat out from cover, the dog moves in for the kill and the mink stays back. I can only assume that these animals have trained and worked together in the past. A really neat example of inter-species collaboration -- not to mention the human handler-trapper's role in the exercise.

    Technically this mink is "kept", but I understand and agree. It's not easy to create a natural-esque lifestyle, especially when a pet's natural habits aren't clear b/c of breeding or because of popular opinion. For example, I have a corn snake and just try to feed your snake live mice without being judged and lectured on how frozen mice are better, safer, cheaper, etc. The pandemic forced us to go frozen, but I still think its imposing human mores on an animal. :/

    Yushiro Shihoin That’s true Yushiro, but we live in a fallen world, as I’m sure you know, and - the moment we fell - we lost our innocence, became aware of our nakedness and were ashamed. God himself slew an innocent animal so as to clothe us in animal skin... foreshadowing His plan to subsequently sacrifice His own, blameless Son in order to redeem us from our sinful ways. It was never His intention that animals suffer for our sake, but he chose to allow it, because He created us above the animals and gave us dominion over all Creation... This is where the Animal Rights Movement becomes too extreme. It’s right to press for humane treatment of animals and to stamp out cruelty and neglect in its many forms, but since the fall, God has allowed us to eat meat, and to wear and utilise animal products. I wish it wasn’t so, and I’m sure that God wishes it wasn’t so either, but He loves us and places us above the rest of his Creation - showing His abiding and almost unfathomable love for us in that He asked His own Son to suffer and die for us, to redeem us eternally from our otherwise perpetual life of sin... One day, very soon (judging by these appallingly immoral and degenerate “Last Days” that we have unquestionably entered...) Jesus will return and restore our world to its previous, harmonious state: Isaiah 11:6-9 (NIV) [6] The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. [7] The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox. [8] The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest. [9] They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea. That day cannot come soon enough..... 😢🙋🏻‍♂️

  • @jrodowens

    @jrodowens

    6 жыл бұрын

    What you say is true, mustelids (mink & other 'weasels') and canids (dogs) belong to the caniform lineage of Carnivora (as do bears & oddly enough, seals and sea lions.) Civets/genets, mongooses, hyenas and cats belong to the sister lineage of feliform Carnivorans. And of course the rats belong to that great - that is, huge in number - lineage of placental mammals called the rodents, specifically the murid lineage (i.e. mouse-like rodents.) Interestingly enough, we humans and our primate cousins are closer kin on the great family tree to the rodents than to many other mammal lines, including the aforementioned Carnivorans, but also the many four-legged herbivores like deer, rhinos, cattle. That said, I'm not sure to what degree this matters to a hunting dog. Dogs rely on smell to track down quarry, but in the closing moments of an attack likely rely only (or mostly) on their sight to pinpoint the animals location. No doubt a mustelid smells quite a bit different than a rat, being known for their very strong scent glands.

    scuffed malone impossible. This man's livelihood depends on the ability of the mink to be agile and lightning fast. You can bet your life that the mink gets plenty of exercise daily! Further, did you see how he treats that mink? He obviously cares very much about it's welfare! Finally the mink doesn't need to be free, it just needs to be happy.

    I LOVE RATS!! I had a hooded rat in my early 20's. He was so sweet, smart, and fun. I miss him so much. I won't have another one because I can't take the heartbreak of them not living more than a few years. I had a big rat pest problem here the past few months. I ordered a humane live trap and have caught, and released 4 so far. I take them to the landfill where they have lots of food and shelter. I try to drop them all in the same area so they can find each other again. I only have the one trap so had to do it one at a time. They were no where as big as these guys were. They were really cute too. If I didn't have dogs, cats, and kids I would have made one of them my pet. It was very docile. It did not want to leave the cage. It kept climbing back up to the back of the cage as I held it upside down to try and get it to fall out of the opening. It was so cute. I felt so bad. At least they have a chance to live out their lives without fear of someone snapping their necks in those kill traps.

  • @JadeDragoness77

    @JadeDragoness77

    I also prefer it if it is more natural. I won't kill them if I can help it, and try to not let my dogs get them if it can be helped. If they do have to die I would rather it be by my dogs than by poison or death traps. I use live traps to catch and release them.
