Many years back, my wife and I were in the lounge one night. she was asleep on the couch and I was watching TV. During this time, burglars had removed the burglar guards and had emptied our bedroom of her jewelry and all our clothing. When I eventually discovered it, I looked out of the bedroom window to see my highly pedigreed Rottweiler sitting outside the window with her tennis ball in her mouth. I am sure she sat there begging the burglars to throw the ball for her too. What a guard dog. Haha, but we did love her to bits.

Do you treat her like a dog, or spoil her and treat her like your kid? We live in a farming community and many an Anatolian and Pyrenees dogs wind up in shelters because they lost their guarding instinct. In every single instance family members started treating them like their kids and spoiling them.

@@GLoLChibs She was given to us at 5 years old when her owner emigrated to New Zealand so how she was raised, we have no idea, however, she was never a guard dog, she was family. It's when people start treating their dogs as protectors that kids and old people get attacked and maimed by them.

I was swimming last summer when this aggressive seagull tried to attack me for some reason. Basicly i had to dodge it attacks several times for couple of minutes. There were some little birds in a nearby tree and they started make loud noises, after a while, a swarm of those little birds started to attacks seaqull and chase it away. That was pretty interesting reaction from them(i quess they probably had eggs nearby or something like that, or they just hate seaqulls)

When I was in my late teens my mom (who was kind of crazy) got all up in my face and started screaming at me (her usual accusations that I was a drug dealing mass murderer, spoiler alert I wasn't) and my cat ran up to her, stood on his hind legs, and dug both claws into her leg. I used to babysit a couple kids after I was their mom's coworker for a time. I began taking her son to martial arts classes with me and when I'd drive him home sometimes I'd review some moves with him inside the house. Paco, the family German Shepard, was always friendly but he'd start to bare his teeth, growl, and get ready to lunge if I grabbed Dylan, despite us just practicing. I stopped practicing partially because I never wanted Paco to lose his protective nature... but mostly so I didn't get bitten, lol. He was a good protector and every family should have a dog like that. RIP Paco.

This makes me even more confident that if someone tried to rob my house, my Husky would help them carry the TV screen 😂

The dog you see in my profile pic did try to protect me once. My friend was playfully hitting me with a piece of cardboard & I was laying on the ground. He jumped in between me & her a was barking but he was a little wimp all she did was stomp her foot & grunt & he cowered away. The bigger dogs left because they weren’t the alpha in the house. They were trained to not be aggressive. In the third household, that dog was the alpha and wasn’t trained to be gentle. Clearly, the last woman’s ignorance of pack mentality allowed her dog to claim the mantle. Any dog that sees itself as the alpha or strong beta, or trained, will defend the pack. It’s that simple.

they should glue rubber patches from an old inner tube onto the chihuaha feet with contact rubber cement. Rubber has excellent coefficient of friction.

Because dogs feel real danger. This was just a game and the dogs understand this. But if you walk with your dog and some stranger came in to your way...may he is a psychopat and serial murder...the dog will feel this. Dont unaerastemate dogs. They have senses which we dont understand. They smell fear, they smell if somebody is evil or have a good heard...they feel if somebody is depressed etc.

I had a Collie-mix (never knew the mix), she was so friendly! I really never expected her to take threats seriously. But, she did surprise me when a suspicious man came to the door. She is the one who alerted me silently by her hair fluffing, and a very low growl. Apparently he had been inside our gate for sometime (my neighbor said later) She never once barked. She let out a low growl, as she stood guard when I opened the door narrowly, said he was looking for someone else. Never saw him again. GOOD GIRL!
