Nah its not too hard. Its one of the reasons dogs have such good sniffers, it's not just to find the food, but they can on-the-spot identify what their noses are pointing at, and the minks have a different scent to the rats, even if the mink were covered in rat blood.

I absolutely LOVE that the dog carries the mink cage into the war-zone with him, like they are his personal strike team, which they pretty much are. I can only compare the situation to a WW2 aircraft carrier, the old type that still packed a huge gun battery alongside the tower for both AA defense and shore bombardment along with multiple squads of hunter-killer aircraft. Just too goddamn cool. :-D

I used to do pest work at one of the bigger companies about 20 years back. Of course they trained us to use snap traps, live catch traps, glue boards, and bait stations. It was a challenge for me as I'm the kind of guy that catches a spider in a glass and takes it outside. I'm fascinated by your methods and I marvel at your trained pets. This is incredibly humane, to use natural predators to eliminate the rodents. I don't think I'd be brave enough to grab them with my bare hands though. Keep up the great work, Joseph.

I love how the dogs and Minks knows their roles. Younger less experienced dogs are digging and killing what they can, the stragglers that are faster and make a break for it are taken down by the experienced dogs. One dog outside in case the rats make it that far. And Minks to go in and find them, scaring the rats out or killing them if they’re slow. Excellent teamwork.

My German Shepherd has never been “trained” to hunt rats….but we had some make holes in the ground near our chicken coop. The chickens were killed off by Fox but we never moved the feed….we didn’t SEE the rat nest til we noticed huge rats near our garage looking to dig into our dog food container. Freaked me out! So my dog began to sling rats at my feet one morning. I kid u not. He was beside me one second, the next second he’s slinging a rat right in front of me….keep in mind I didn’t see or hear them….he just came out of nowhere with them. It’s like he snapped their necks in less than a second and flung them at me. I think over 3 days he tossed like 12 rats at me 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ We finally started to say “check it out” and walked all around the yard. We found the holes out behind the old chicken coop and realized that’s where they started but once that food ran out they came toward the house looking for more. It didn’t take us long, thank god, to be rid of them. We have kept bait traps out for the last year since then. The bait contained in the black plastic bins. Haven’t seen another rat lol. It just amazed me how efficient our dog was at helping. The downside is that now when he sees ANY small movement….he’s after it. Our neighbor has a chihuahua. I worry all the time he’s going to snatch it up and toss it at my feet 🥺

@RamblingBaba _ Didn't know they die instantly, but I heard the bucket water trap works with very little water in it. They can touch the bottom as long as they can't jump out. The water lowers their temperature and they die from hypothermia.

Nidnoms really impressive breed, they absolutely need the right owner and work.. they must work, but seriously the smartest, most driven of the dog breed world, that’s why they are military, police and now ratting champs of the k9 world, I have a bull terrier Miniture, rat dogs back in the day, not now, now just useless at rats.

Vegans rely on agriculture as much as anybody, and pests and pest control are a natural part of agriculture. A lot of the historical reason we have dogs and cats as pets is to keep vermin under control and maintain relatively healthy and safe villages/towns/cities.
