The problem with poison it doesn't just kill the rat. It enters the food chain. So a bird eats a rat that has the poison. The bird dies. Then an animal eats the carcass of the bird, say a fox or a coyote. Then they die. Then so on and so on up the food chain until something WE eat has the poison in it. So the fox dies in a field and the poison leeches into the ground. A cow comes along and eats the grass and voila, poison beef or if it's a dairy cow, poison in milk. It might be only a small trace amount but that's how it works. The more we eat that has toxins in it the more diseases WE have.....

I'm amazed. That dog is so well trained and the minks are just so cute and dangerous. You do an amazing job with these animals.
I learn so much from these videos! So much more informative than just looking up pest control facts--you learn more about the population dynamic growth and relationship between animals and even how human and animal partner dependency can be with coworking and it's just great.
It is so good to see ecological rat control coming back. In India the rats have been poisoned so often that they have become toxic to their predators and immune to the poison. Using the methods that Nature gave us is so much more sensible. Your Lurcher is magnificent...my favourite breed of dog, even if they are incorrigible thieves. Your mink are well trained obviously, and really demonstrate the speed and skills of their species. I kept an old Toronto 3 story building rat and mouse clear with ferrets a number of years ago, and beat the cockroaches with Geophilidae...never needed poisons in 25 years, and it was pretty infested when we bought it. Good job, thanks for doing it right and inspiring others as well.🖤🇨🇦

I'm very curious, how the heck do you manage the geophilidae once released? Don't they just hide in corners and dark places themselves?
@tamarrajames3590
5 жыл бұрын
Sida Zeng I actually do nothing to control them, once they are seeded into a building you never see them unless another type of insect is appearing. Their numbers will grow to accommodate the infestation, and then diminish all on their own. This was a large three story building with a basement built in the 1800s of brick and wood, and roaches are pretty endemic in old Toronto. They had reduced a really bad infestation to the point that I never saw another roach again in less than a month. The ferret actually got a bit chubby initially, and we borrowed a couple from friends to help him out. They had the mouse issue under control within a couple of months. We arranged a “home station” where their water and sleeping area was, so they returned there regularly. I found the whole process fascinating, as I had never tried this sort of thing before. I captured a few of my little Viking ships...my pet name for the geophilidae and took them to my home just to make sure I had a colony there to handle the occasional incursion by ants...it too is a very old building, Arts and Crafts era brick, plaster and lathe. Every now and again I will see one in the Spring when a few ants give it a try, but that is the only way I know they are still here.

@@RedWolfCid The rats carry the fleas that carry the plague. Any rat can have a plague ridden flea on it. The rat itself has no plague, only its fleas.
@RedWolfCid
5 жыл бұрын
@@forevertj You are wrong on a few points. Fleas only bite humans (vector transmission) after there prefered host has already died, only rarely from plague (most animals are only mildly affected by plague in most cases), plague may also be transmitted through direct contact ( bites from infected animal or handling guts) or through inhalation of the bacteria (cough). Fleas do not carry plague long-term, the coccobacillus builds up in there midgut, effectivly blocking there stomach, causing the fleas to bite more aggressivly and infect the new host before they starve. Multiple animals can be infected with the plague bacteria (Yersinia pestis), however most rats are immune, the only genus of rat susceptible to plague is Neotoma, other animals that carry plague are voles, deer mice, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, dogs, cats, goats, camels and sheep. Neotoma at best make up about 10% of rats, leaving 90% of rats that do not carry plague. I guess this is fairly new information but you should look it up rather then continue to spread misinformation.

@@debb4099 you should put a decent sized bowl with some oil in it, along with some food. The rats try to get the food, fall into the oil and it's too slippery for them to get out
I love how the cow just watches everything and then walks away He was like yeah okay I'm out of here 10:35
Man, it's so amazing watching them hunt! Awesome that you do this! Damn, my cat is lazy! My dogs go nuts for the neighborhood squirrels, they'd love this.

The Terminator: the mink hunter
This guy everyday surprise me more and more...,hes knowledge about what he's doing,hes efficiency and the best of all the good service is doing to farmers...,ist nothing worst than a plague of nasty rats in a farm,the damage they cause can hit very hard the economy of the farmers and the hygiene,health and quality of life of the livestock.
This is actually so good for keeping the rat population down on farms! It’s effective, uses animals that may have been killed, keeps those animals wild/living in their natural habitat, cheaper, creates more business and also doesn’t harm local wildlife/environment/products like harmful pesticides that are usually used do. First time I’ve ever seen this but I have been having some hell of a ride watching this video

won't the minks catch anything by actually biting into the skin of those rats? i mean, aren't rats filled with disease?

Why do I enjoy watching this so much and why do the dogs and minks love catching and releasing so much.. we may never know
Hi Joseph, just wanted to say how much I enjoy watching your animals go to work, I like how you do not waste what you hunt. I am a hunter and use dogs to catch pigs, seriously thinking of starting up a rat hunt here in New Zealand. Thank you for you hard work, keep it up, and I hope we can meet one day to talk of hunting stories. Keep it up brother
