Here's a response from minirig I had sent to me. With the new app ,we've gone for a complete redesign and stripped back many of the features to simplify the user experience. The 5-band eq may be added back in at some point, but for now, we feel that having bass and treble controls (basically a 3-band eq) keeps things much simpler and is easier to use. Most customers simply used the 5-band eq to adjust the bass and treble anyway. This may seem like a backward step but in truth these bass and treble controls allow you to smoothly compensate for the room and placement without creating lumps and bumps in the flat response. Of course, if you do want more control, there are many EQ apps available on most devices. We will keep updating the app and adding new features slowly and carefully over time. We don't make any stands ourselves but there are a few available from other companies. We designed the Minirig 4 so that it will adjust the sound depending on if you have it stood on the bass or pointing towards you. Hope this info helps 🙏

Interesting, probably for many people it could be easier to have everything about the settings in the new app or just the 2 eq controls on the main page of the app to have a simplified calibration and have less difficulty if they are not very experienced in calibrations or if they know little about the frequencies, but for example for me it is more useful how the old app is designed (bugs and problems aside) I find it convenient to use and the 5-band equalizer allows for more precise and personalized control, in reality it would be nice to have one too to 7 or 9 bands, then on the minirig 3 app there are already presets ready for use as voice or studio, for example I used studio several times and the real strong point that gave an extra point to the minirig is the loud mode (I use it a lot outdoors at high or max volume) which significantly increases the output level; after the last update it has been improved while before it increased the power mainly in the high frequencies leaving the bass a little behind, going up like a scale (bass-medium-high) ------- ------ ----- ---- --- after the update it also increased the bass and then reduced it with the increase of the volume. Furthermore, even if you modify the frequency bands 1for1 in a similar way, you don't get the same power as in loud mode. It's true there are multiple apps for EQ and EQ integrated directly into the various phone players, but if I have to open an app to adjust the settings and I already have everything there including a complete EQ, even better. Probably given the problems with the old app they will go very slowly reading the answer they gave you, I'm contacting them too because I see that the battery doesn't last very long at high volumes, they respond quite quickly even if sometimes the answers seem quite vague to me or it seems like they don't read everything that is sent...

Do you recommend a small stand ,having the speaker tilted or just on its base?

this also depends a lot on your personal tastes, in flat you will have a more widespread sound in the environment, if you want to listen to every detail especially if you make it play in stereo and enjoy it fully you can position it directional in front of you with a slight inclination so as to to have the best result, you can also use the same cover or an object that acts as a base, the stand is not essential but it could be helpful.

@@bnewson33 yes, there is the Tilt mode function which increases the treble when the minirig is flat and reduces it when it is positioned on its side, it should work thanks to the integrated accelerometer.
