Minirig 4 Portable Speaker Review - A rare zero-latency portable for DJs 🔊
Музыка
The Minirig 4 is a small, battery-powered Bluetooth speaker with a flawless wired option, meaning it can be used as both your casual speaker for day-to-day use and also - crucially - as a DJ speaker with zero latency. It’s beautifully designed, well-built, will last you ages, sounds great, and goes very loud. It’s by no means the cheapest, but you get what you pay for, and we have no problems recommending this latest version of a cult classic.

I Dj'd at the park yesterday with Minirig 4 + Subwoofer (first time djing outside bedroom ever) and a local radio DJ came up and immediately wanted to know the speakers I was using because he loved the sound.

Great story, thanks!
I live in the states. I do not have a car. I’m not superbly strong, and I am a backpack DJ. I like to own the best possible DJ system for small parties which I can fold out of a backpack. After months of consideration, I ordered a 2x minirig 3 + 1x minirig Sub 3 combo from the manufacturer. I have had them a couple of years, seldomn used because I’ve been focused on my day job, but at parties, it is not just me who likes them. Any test of a speaker with other people is jointly a test of the speaker and your music selecting skills, but I’m happy to say that the minirig combo has received universally positive feedback, with quite a few people’s minds blown at what it achieves. I think a stereo pair of minirigs is appropriate (with at least 6 feet of audio cable between them) for small rooms, particularly if they’re going to be set up near a wall. You want the subwoofer if you have space and carrying capacity, and if you’re outside or in the middle of a big space. If you have the subwoofer along in a small space, and you lack long enough audio cables to bridge directly between the minirigs, use the subwoofer as a passive cord extender. Turn off the subwoofer unit after wiring up the whole system with the subwoofer in the middle. Your audio will still pass from one minirig to another through it, and you won’t overwhelm your listeners (or yourself) with low frequencies. I’m torn about whether I want minirigs to catch on here in the states. It would lessen my competitive advantage, but I expect technology to erode that with time anyway. It would also increase the chances I could encounter a party host or other goer who supplies additional minirigs while I’m DJing, which would be a treat. :)

As someone who own MR3 2.1 set up, ideally you'd want the left , right and the sub...the added depth and omph make all the difference. While two minirigs sound great they can be a bit treble heavy, which certainly needs toning down via EQ'ing. The addition of the sub gives you that sheer depth and rumble that you simply don't get with two standard minirig speakers. While the set up amd charging of multiple speakers can be a faff, the small footprint and modularity of such a set is at this moment, unmatched. By the way, even a 1.1 set up sounds great l, you just lose that true stereo sound....
@bnewson33

2.1 is also mono ,just bass from one channel. It's expensive ,but worth it. Have one mini 4 and sub3 ,the bass on high gain is insane. Having a good source of audio helps massively.
Been eyeing one of these for a few years and more recently in months. Would you recommend one (or two) of these for a monitor speaker? I sometimes do smaller events and don’t want to bring my 8” if I don’t have to. Or been fortunate enough to do some outdoor events where everything is there but no monitor. And if this would be perfect to toss in my laptop bag and serve my needs.

Hi Phil, great review video thank you. I am looking for something that offers relative portability, great sound and ability to DJ with, for small parties (up to 20-30 people type thing) indoor and outdoors (e.g. beach/forest etc.) - would you say these would fit the bill and if so for how many people roughly do you reckon a 2.1 setup with these could cater for (and same Q for a 4.2 set up), to give sound that allows for a proper party (i.e. loud + thumpy bass) ?! I know this is a tough question to answer and depends on multiple variables but any estimations on this would be so helpful! As it's a difficult decision deciding between these and something bigger but perhaps punchier e.g. soundbok. Currently I only have yamaha hs7 monitors for home practice. Thank you in advance and sorry for the long Q! :)

i have a pair of 4s and had a pair of 3s. the 4s are doing lots of sound processing to try and amp up the bass when it can; sadly that makes them sound like a rollarcoaster instead of just having a nice flat clean sound i loved my 3s so much for. best part about the 4s is it cranks the bass during quiet parts so whenever the bass comes back in, the first "kick" is always gained so high it makes the speaker flat out fart, then it suddenly over corrects and the second bass "kick" is under powered. i brought my pair of 4s to a friends house for a party and we ended putting them back in my backpack and i shit you not we played music off an alexa dot instead. my 3's stayed at home because the wireless sucked' my 4s stay at home because the sound processing.

One of the really bad issues with the 3's was wireless stereo pair the signal between the two speakers was just awful and almost anything would cause one speaker to constantly cut in and out. Has this been fixed in the 4s? A simple test was putting a person or a wall between the two speakers.
