I just love how you get so much enjoyment out of him. When you said, look at his tail, you clearly were happy that he was enjoying his walk. I remember that first video when you weren't sure if you would take him with you. My heart just swells seeing how close you two have become and how much enjoyment you get from each other. Welcome to cat world lol!

Being chosen by this cat seems to have enriched your life. Taz is such a beautiful and intelligent cat and you are an excellent cat caretaker! He may never learn to follow you, but you and he can still have fun taking walks like this. It's a sign of your bond with him that he comes to you to feel safe. Congratulations on this success!

Isn't it funny that your relationship with Taz began with him following you and you couldn't get him to stop, even when you tried to run away from him? Now you'd prefer that he follows, but instead he's taking the human he loves for a walk. Taz likes to make his own choices! 😻

During my childhood we had two cats who acted like this. When we went out for a walk they followed us everywhere. The first one who did that was the grandma of the second. She was already dead since couple of years when her descendant started to do that. We were like "Yep, she is like grandma" :)

I take my cat walking every evening. I use a laser instead of a leash. She doesnt like to be tethered. She was about 8 years old when she found me. I think she lived around canines in her past cat life. She wont run away if a dog or cat charges her. Shes mighty fierce and big (17 pounds). She wanted to walk with me whenever I went out the door. But now, its strictly at night. Low traffic & shes nocturnal. Eventually Raz can be trained to go without the line. He's a brilliant feline.

You have a familiar. He will follow you wherever you go. Eventually as you get to know each other the leash won’t be needed and you’ll understand the meowing. Listen because cats are very smart and will tell you how you both can be of service to each other ❤

I've walked with my cat on a leash for around 17 years and the tips I can give is: consistency goes a long way. When you're consistent the cat understands much better what you want and what they are allowed to do. Being consistent with going outside with them regularly also helps with having the cat be more relaxed and obedient, because the kitty knows that it'll always get back outside tomorrow or the day after and won't put up such a fight. The meowing can be a sign of frustration or maybe distress/uncertainty, but it can also have to do with the cats' age. Have you gotten this cat neutered/spayed? Otherwise the cat might start having hormonal behaviours around that age and can be expressed as meowing among other behaviours. (Just something to keep in mind.) Based on the video you two were doing really well! Good luck!

  • @TawdryTempest

You are correct the tail is very expressive and you can tell a lot about cats by this. Straight up is a happy dude. Notice, when at home, if you call his name his tail will probably go up and he might come to you. The flicking tail show interest and figuring stuff out. An extremely flicking tail means Watch out! It might mean I'm done playing, leave me alone, or I'm angry. He probably smelled something on the wind that he wasn't sure about (as opposed to being afraid of the wind). Best of luck training him commands on leash. I doubt you will be able to control him like this, but you never know. I taught my cat to "unlock the door" (he stretches up the door towards the handle), and "open the door" where he taps his paw against the door. He can also open it (if it is cracked open). It's so cute! Best of luck with your handsome buddy. Check out the Acro-cats (a pun on acrobats) to have your mind blown. I saw them live and it was 🤯 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Acro-Cats en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Amazing_Acro-Cats

I have 3 cats, one 6 years old and 2 brothers who are 3 years old. My house on the beach is in front of dunes, I go out with them without a leash, the older cat leads the walk and calls me and the 2 younger cats, he doesn't let us go where he considers dangerous or even go too far away. No one walks if I don't go. At first I tried a leash, but they only accept the harness when traveling by car. They really enjoy going out with my daughter and me, we go together and they are constantly paying attention to where everyone is. They call each other. Any alert they run back. I make sure they don't catch local fauna, so far they don't try to hunt while we walk.

"Which is not really the case." --- That's typical. Usually you follow the cat when they're leashed. Perhaps consistent training will change that. I've had a cat who would follow me as I walked, but that was off leash. And have heard of other cats who followed, but those were also off leash. It was the cats' choice to follow. Where Taz came to you for protection was adorable.

Yeah, cats sometimes have their own idea of when it's time to go home xD 2:35 When he finds a nice sniffing spot, it's best to just let him sniff away. If he doesn't get spooked or anything just let him do his thing.

When you take Taz out on hikes, if you take him off the leash he'll still follow you. You don't even need to give him orders, he knows you're the leader (and food bringer) so he'll say close even if you walk away. My cats used to follow me for miles when I'd hike the trails behind my house.

I've followed several youtube channels with people who travel with their cats and to a cat, they don't walk like a dog and amble wherever they want to go, stop often to sniff, and don't walk far distances. They also tire out rather quickly and then you have to pick them up and carry them.

I stumbled upon your channel by accident but now I want to watch ALL of your videos with Taz! I loved the first one when you met each other. It was the first one I saw and it was so happy and wholesome. You are naturally very funny; I don't know if you know how funny you are. I love how you interact with Taz so gently and respectfully and how your are "learning" each other and allowing us to come along for the ride. I have been a devout cat person for decades but I learned new things watching you. You have a very special Cat there with Taz and he in turn has the perfect human. Keep making these because there is just something very special about how you patiently and sweetly interact with Taz and narrate with that also special knack you have for drawing people in. Thank you for saving Taz...I think he is fulfilling to you too! 🐱

I suppose you already know, but if you see him eating grass, let him do it. It's actually very beneficial as it helps him naturally purge his system, similar to how dogs do when they later regurgitate the grass in the form of a hairball, which helps cleanse their stomach. Nature is indeed well-designed.
