Except for the mini-hikes, Taz is a 100% indoor cat. There are many stray dogs and cats around, so my biggest fear is Taz getting lost and encountering one of them alfa male cats. He won't stand a chance as these alfa males are unneutered, highly territorial and very aggressive towards other males. And lets face it, Taz is a spoiled softy.

They're not though. I rescue and deal with injured cats all of the time because humans think things like cats can go on the roof or won't fall out of a window.

The flight in fight or flight can lead to a cat who never leaves her yard being trapped in a neighbor's tree in a fenced in backyard for 3 days while I searched like a crazy woman. Kitty never called out, because there was usually a barking German Shepherd dog below her. I had almost abandoned hope. So happy to be reunited!

my gosh he is growing into such a beauty! he knows how to get your attention, it's said the quickest way to get a cat to notice you is to ignore them. Glad you are able to enjoy the outdoors with your little roommate.

Pouncey, the bengal cat on the Professor Pouncey channel, got lost for the first time a few weeks ago. Pouncey has over a million subscribers, and we were terrified - as was Pouncey's dad. Pouncey rides in a bicycle basket, and a leash or harness could endanger him in a crash - as Taz's leash could have done if he climbed that tree with it trailing. Pouncey and dad were reunited after some frightening moments. They were in a deep forest that wasn't familiar to them. It's a challenge to give Taz some freedom and keep him safe. You're doing an excellent job, imho. And Taz is a beautiful cat, truly extraordinary. 💙

He’s looking great man, like a little, white, gray, and black tiger 🐅 - I always wonder how well they remember things, like whether Taz can remember that bridge or the day you guys met. It’s always funny to see indoor cats react to being outdoors. My cat snuck out once, and I just couldn’t sleep, being so worried about her. When she sauntered in the back door she snuck out of (I intentionally left if open so she would have a way back in, in case she came back on her own), at 5AM, she looked at me momentarily, giving me one of those really long meows, then went to her food and water. I felt like crying; I was so relieved. I guess I now know what it probably felt like for my parents when I stole a car and ran away when I was in high school.

@@--Taz-- Unfortunately - it was a pretty terrible decision I made during my Junior year, in the late 90’s. My girlfriend at the time had a terrible home life, and had some demons; she was a bad influence. I’m not putting all the blame on her though - my dad was physically abusive, so I had my own reasons for going. I somehow made it from Seattle to Texas without a driver’s license 🪪 until I got caught doing 124 mph passing truckers on a rural highway in Sherman, TX. Getting picked up by my parents from Juvenile Detention was humiliating 😔

Taz is such a cutie. He found the perfect human friend for himself (your first meeting) and when you tried to get away he said nope. you are my human now. And you said OK. And the rest is awesome.

You have a strikingly rare and beautiful cat. It's clear you have made a bond with him that will withstand any outside influences. Re: some other comments... There is no such thing as an indoor cat...Let him explore his environment and hunt like the apex predator he was meant to be! Under your watchful eye, he will be safe and enjoy a full and wonderful life. I have 3 free range cats that live a wonderful life, hunt and prowl on their own, but come in every night and sleep at my feet.

I love the way he hops around and stops to nibble some grass, lol. Water may be a bit tricky on a hike, however the treats you brought are a great idea. It's a wet food product, so he's still getting hydration

Freyja was almost 17 and fell in my lap. So wonderful 💕🐅

When I was a teen I rescued a kitten from a beach (some other boys were throwing him in the water continuously). I walked up, grabbed the kitten and placed him in the hood of my jacket. He was obviously exhausted and fell asleep so I forgot I put him in my hoody after some time (we were drinking on the beach so maybe the alcohol made me forget, haha). The next morning I woke up and voila I had a kitten! He was the best friend I’ve ever had. It’s nice to watch these videos and be reminded of my little buddy!

Taz is one of the most handsome cats I've ever seen. And he has such a fantastic personality. The squeeze treat is a great idea, I use it as well when my cats go in the yard (not far though they're still a little nervous about the outdoors).

This is amazing! You’re so cute to be so sensitive and never take him there again after the dogs. You’re a fantastic pet owner and it’s awesome that you walk him. It’s how you connected and you can see how much he lovessss it!!

My dude, I think that's a bengal!!

It can help getting him an air tag or gps collar to attach to his neck or harness in case he goes further or something spooks him while off leash. Just helps calm the brain anxiety a bit.

I would be worried about a dog off the leash who could harm Taz.. Some dogs will attack small animals without hesitation.. 😢

I feel why you said that, it’s good for Taz to get comfortable with dogs, but I wouldn’t want him to get too comfortable around unpredictable off leash dogs.

I love seeing ppl walking cats I walk mine all the time and ppl always act like it's so weird but it's not cats are very good on leashes if you train them early. Taz is beautiful ❤️

If you watch any videos about Dean and Nala, he lets her of the leash. He used to bike her all around Europe. She is also used to riding on his shoulder. Then he can walk at a normal pace. Sorry about the dogs.

You are his main love. He picked you to rescue him from the wild. If he wanted to be an outdoor kitty he could have been. Keep him with you INDOORS. You will never forgive yourself if something happens to him outdoors. His quality of life is not diminished being kept safe inside, it is improved. He is just too valuable to take such risks...

Try using a laser light as a training tool with Raz. Thats hiw I trained my cat to walk & hike with me. She loves playing with the laser to this day. I call it the mousey laser..lol. it works with canines(laser light), so I tried it with my cat & it worked perfectly. It keeps your cat from reacting to various distractions. I think Raz will react the same way. He's very alert but youre his trusted companion. You rule indoors, you must adapt to Raz outdoors. Different surroundings. Outside, youre a team against the elements, inside its controlled space. Good luck! I hope you experimrnt using the laser tool. It can be a toy & a training tool.Applying action/reaction & cause/effect can create triggers which you want and modify/suppress Raz's existing, instinctive triggers. (I train many varieties of animals). This little guy has changed your life, the very day you found him! It was meant to be. He trusts you 100% , so you must trust him when outside. Give him preparatory commands and he'll pick them up. Nonverbal or verbal. I truly enjoy your videos showcasing Raz! Id do the same with my furry pupils and adopted ones but I havent made the time for it. I'm busy with my current job, training them. I carry a laser with me 24/7, for over 20 years. Great exercise tool for dogs & cats. Also for training I mentioned. Yes, you can even teach old dogs & cats new tricks Best wishes!
