    He looks ready to venture out since he's not just laying down refusing to move....It is true that your cat walks you and not the other way around, so you may be carrying him a bit on your hikes. Small walks outside first. They can freak out if you go too far from home before they are used to it. Maybe get a backpack cat carrier for your hikes?

  • @Winnie-hq5hs

    @Winnie-hq5hs

    7 ай бұрын

    I agree. A backpack carrier is a good idea. I don't think a cat wants to go for long walks, but it's wonderful, that Taz will be able to get outside in a safe manner❤❤❤

    It depends on the individual cat. Some don't like going on walks, others do. I've had a cat in the past who loved going on walks. I'd put him in his harness and he absolutely loved it, wouldn't try to run away or anything. But that was just him. 🤷

  • @Frutticattygirl
    @Frutticattygirl Жыл бұрын

    Speaking from experience here: Remember you're not walking your cat, he's walking you XD Also be very mindful of where the leash line is. You don't want it to get tangled up in his legs or tail, which can then cause him to react badly. I quite honestly think you can start taking him outside for a bit, since he walks so nicely with everything on. Just for a few minutes. Also cats wont always follow when pulling on the leash, so what I do is that I crouch down and encourage him to come to me. My cat took to a harness and leash like a fish in water xD (I did start when he was a kitten, so that helps too)

  • @--Taz--

    I say take him on a short hike. Bring a cat back pack with you in case he gets tired or refuses to walk. Don’t get the backpack with the plastic bubble, which gets too hot. But the ones with mesh. You can clip their harness to the carrier backpack so that they don’t jump out and they will get used to the rhythm of walking.

    He’s looking so dapper, so handsome and I love that vest, suits him. You need to to let him lead as time goes by, mostly, but you can make him go to where you want to go, by saying come on or let’s go like what you’re doing. He will want to investigate, early days yet both of you are a natural. You need to be adapt with the leash so it doesn’t go under his feet and in between . You will get better at that too. I started with normal leash. A retractable leash, is much easier to control, you can stop him going far ahead by braking, and releasing, and if it’s too slack you can tighten it back, to avoid the leash getting into awkward positions. And yes, you did right, if he goes under something let go of the handle or just put it under the chair like you do. My cat sometimes go through tree branches or chasing birds, I let go. But he cannot catch birds anywhere, birds will fly off, whilst he’s dragging his noisy leash behind him and I will be ready to pick up the leash again quickly if I need to. Taz was striding so confidently, Taz is so gorgeous. Just search on amazon or wherever you shop: retractable leash Mine is neon light, so I can see the leash/handle etc, even his vest stripes are neon…partly because we go out late evening or early morning. Great training video, like duck to water, well almost.

  • @H_A_L_7

    @H_A_L_7

    Жыл бұрын

    @@--Taz-- He used to be cool when younger and let people say hello and dogs he’ll go still and watch them until out of sight before he carries on. He’s almost 10 yrs old now, he’s had 2 operations, he’s changed slightly, owners with dogs tend to keep away from us. I take him to a wooded area, behind our building, we live in a flat. We take lift, no problem. If he’s not happy, he’ll turn, walk straight back home. Basically with a cat, he’ll be walking you most of the time. I will stop him from going into thick bushes, we got lots of blackberries bushes, foxes lives there.. We met a young fox once, he tried to run after it but I stop his leash from going further. He tried to catch a sea gull once 😁. Just be alert yourself, watch out for dogs with irresponsible owners. If I see a dog approaching or not far from us, I get closer to him use my body to block his view, so he can’t see them until they’re further away. My emergency plan would be to scoop him into my arms/jacket/coat if ever a dog came too close. So far, it’s been fine, as we go to areas that dog owners don’t go to. He’s also now developed a fear of cars, I don’t know why. Stationary cars he would investigate sniff etc but if he sees a moving car, he stop still and watch it. Often he will turn back to go home. That’s why we go out early morning or late evening less traffic. I think Taz being young, looking at the way he walks so confident, he’ll be alright. I used to walk my cat across roads, climb a few trees up to certain height etc but now only towards the woods. Got a female cat, she would only walk around in the building and refuse to go outside. But if we go to the vets, she’s not scared of dogs at all. You’re a tall guy, so you can easily keep him out of a dog’s reach… but don’t let them come too close would be best strategy. Dog owners r very understanding. Last time there’s this guy he also walk his dog around same time, he always make sure he took another route. Can’t wait to see video of you two going out for first time. Do try to get a retractable leash.. most advertise says dog but it works for cats too… look for small dogs or cats. The leash I have is very good, it’s smooth, releases easily and retracts fast. It’s 6m long I think… sometimes he likes to walk fast and well ahead of me, I just let him lead me to wherever he wants to go except for impossible thorny blackberries bushes. Love to Taz 💜☮️ P/s watch out for cats looking for trouble too. Wished both of you best adventures to come…

    News: we have made friends with a family of fox, first the father, then the partner, nowadays the kids also come out. I feed them Beef scrapings from my butchers, sometimes I buy nice beef ribs, expensive but treats. They’re close but not very close to us, and they just love playing hide and seek with him (my cat). Big problem now, is getting him to leave and go home, it’s not easy, we stay for hours sometimes, just them looking at each other etc. Taz is such a handsome looking dude. You’re the chosen one. May everything good and nice comes to both of you. Love always me & my 2 cats. P/s haven’t been well recently, & weather not good for outings. Today I just went out to feed them, by the den, without my cat, when I got in, he gave me a dirty look, he knows I went out without him. 😃

    Wow..........Taz has grown so beautiful...... When I was on overseas .......a cat was hurt by kids, and I smacked kids away to rescue kitty. Baby was not even 3 weeks old..... to brink of death. He never left me... did not want to. So I illegally took home, and took care. 18 years, it is long time. I used only 5 words when speaking to him, but only 2 were actual words. "Eat"..."Come"....the rest are nonexistend words I made up in my mind, They are the SAME words, but the tone is what makes it 'happy', 'angry', 'demanding', 'playful' or 'loving'. So he would react to the same words that don't exist, but he would understand by the way it is said, and so my cat understood me, and instead of me taking him out he took me out ^^ It was a lot fun, and I loved him to pieces. I still miss him, he got cancer and passed away in my arms.

    You're going to have yourself a hiking partner soon. But remember, cats aren't meant to walk miles on end. (That's dogs.) So you'll have to train the cat to ride your shoulder or otherwise be carried.

    practice alot and it will be great. I'm taking my cat out on a leash every day and he has learned different commands such as what it means when i says go around, for objects where the leash is getting caught. He is 13.
