Cats understand what you are saying. If you train them while they are young, they will listen to you. I trained mine when she was young by telling her to get down and saying "treats" and she listened. Now if I tell her to get down, she does it without treats. This has also worked for brushing her hair, cutting her nails and wash time except with those I usually give her treats after.

Double-sided sticky tape has kept my cat off the counter. I would cover my counter with double-sided sticky tape and whenever my cat would try and jump up onto it, he’d jump right down because he doesn't like the adhesive from the tape on his paws. Took me about 2-weeks before he completely stopped trying to jump onto the counter, I'm now working on keeping him out of the kitchen in general. It's a very dangerous place for a cat and many accidents can happen! Don't listen to anyone saying that you should let him on the counter, it's important to train them not to do that because you don't want to risk them injuring themselves. 1:50

I've been lucky with my cat, keeping her off counter tops/tables. Since I brought her home, I'd get her down the moment she got up there. Luckily, we've got a nice back yard she can get a lot of energy out in - I've just been really lucky. Also, I never leave food in places that might tempt her, always put chairs under the table so she doesn't have an easy point to jump from etc. If something happens and I've left a step ladder near the table with a plate of tuna on it, it's my own fault if my kitty gets up there!😄 Taz is growing into such a handsome little gentleman 😺

I must be super lucky, of the six cats I've had none of them have felt the need to jump on any of the kitchen surfaces, or any furniture that's not the sofa, which they lay on. They've always had free range of the house and been allowed outside during daylight hours. Cats get bored easily if they're kept indoors. But I've heard that kitchen foil laid on the surfaces keeps cats off them, apparently they don't like the feel of it, so maybe tape some to your work surfaces see if Taz stays off. Worth a punt!

Try using aluminum foil or a motion triggered air spray pointing on the problem areas :p That helped when we had to keep our two youngest cats (sadly now, they're the only two left since losing our oldest cat last year) off of the counters at night. We had a specific piece of foil we'd set on the counters at night (since that's the only time they got up on them) If anyone's wondering how we found out they were on them, I'm an insomniac and I've caught them both on the counters, but only at noght (ot's like they know when we're supposed to be asleep xD)

A tip for keeping him off the counter is to put 2 sided tape around where he would come in contact with first thing when he jumps onto it, they really don't like sticky things on their paws and for any further info about anything regarding cats go and give jackson galaxy's channel a follow he is THE cat whisperer 😅 and has a video for almost every problem that could occur when owning a cat What's also a good idea is to put up some cat shelves on the wall so he has more things to climb up on and that could also distract him from the counters
