I'm sure if check the wife's accountings you'll see why she wasn't "able" to just call that poor lady and sympathize in her pain. 400.000$, ask for 15.000$ refund without shame and claiming that the soldier asked to be burnt what a coincidence that the army would gave her 10.000 dollars/year if she did. As a French and so American ally citizen, I appreciate your bravery and you values. Have a nice day.

Helena Washington.. id say the daughter-in-law is of the Princess age. That’s the age where she will only think of herself. (The young ones) I think after being televised and discredited on national television will make her see the whole thing differently. At the moment she sees herself as the victim. It want be until she is years older that she will understand the magnitude of what she has done.

I can’t imagine going through all this hardly out of my teens. It must have been seriously traumatizing . And the parents adding to that. That is really cold hearted!!

@@malina1239 Really? This young girl seemed to be the cause of all the problems. The fact that she made over $400,000 from the taxpayers and could not put a headstone on her husband’s grave says everything! The fact the mother was reviving all the bills shows this young woman did not honor her husband. The fact that the military had to get in contact with the parents because they could not get ahold of the wife says how little she honored her husband. I don’t believe a word the young woman said. The fact that she sold her husband’s plot for $15,000. to his patents is beyond disgusting. If she loved her husband and honored him she should have just given them the rights to the grave. She was not paralyzed from grief. If she was grieving then she should have reached out to his parents for support. Instead she ignored them and would not even tell them the day he was going to be payed to rest. She was the one who was picking fights.

@@bobp1016 what are you talking about??? She’s a 20 year old girl who lost her husband. She lives in a different state from his family, who by all accounts seem to have a real issue with her because of Jewish background and God only knows how they treated her beforehand. And they start issues with her because they want her to agree to have her husband buried in an entirely different state from her! Then they give a grieving young woman 8 months to get a headstone up and are already taking action to have her right to do so taken away from her?? Are you kidding me?! And the mother ADMITS she didn’t CONTACT the widow to TELL her she was receiving bills for her son. How exactly was she supposed to know???? It’s fairly obvious that someone can’t pay a bill if they don’t know it exists. This young woman was utterly pulled to pieces, by everyone here, she was barely given an opportunity to answer questions, let alone explain her side of things and this whole thing was horrendous. His parents got caught being shady and lying over the Jewish comments, yet the girl is completely ignored when she tried to explain herself - like selling them the plot because they wanted to take it from her for the sister… it was like she didn’t speak. Not saying she was perfect at all, but these parents aren’t poor innocent little victims here, that much is obvious. It’s awful they lost their son, it’s terrible. But it’s also a fact that when someone is married their spouse is the person with the right to make decisions. My husband wouldn’t give a shit whether he had a headstone or not 8 months later. He’d want his family to look out for his wife and his children and help them through, not criticise and fight against every decision I made. And he has already made it clear he belongs with his family, as in, me and his children. So there’s no way being buried in an entirely different state would sit with him. He’d want his kids and his wife to have a place to come to remember and love him. Aside from anything else - those parents are preaching the opposite of the Bible the “Christian” preacher father should well know. A man leaves his family and cleaves to his wife. Who is above all except God. You’d think good Christian people would know those most basic of Christian principles.

No one wins in this case. It's sad. Being a military brat, then navy wife, I've seen to much of this. The judge was wrong though, the military (his command, unit, etc) can and will intervene depending the situation. There is truth in each of their stories. But the fact remains that the wife is the closest next of kin. They werent married even a year, so I'm sure this discussion never came up, on the other hand, the moment you sign your life away to the military you have to fill out next of kin, and have you make a will. Most do talk about what their will says and what they want. We spoke about it very soon after he joined as well as when we got married. We also bring the subject up if we feel our minds have changed. I would like to go to the body farm in Memphis TN when I go, and my husband wants to be cremated and toss half in the ocean and the other half stay with me so he can... in his words "keep half so I can keep an eye on you, I'll haunt you in a good way, " lol. Anyways, mom over stepped her boundaries bc of her grief. And the wife, well, girl you cant do these things to a mother. I hope your next mother/father in law will be treated with more respect.

lancer D, he probably knew when he was alive that she was a bad person. There's a common situation where you think you know a person after dating them, then you get married and find out what kind of a person they really are. The fact that he stayed married to her until he was killed is commendable, as it shows that he cared about her. I don't think the wife is all bad (most people are a mixture of bad and good), but what she did to her husband's burial place was despicable and truly evil. Judge JP was right in telling her off. And the woman's excuse for why she didn't put a marker on her husband's grave is lame. You don't need a Scripture on the grave, even if it was a favorite, it is better to just put a headstone on the grave than to let the grave be unmarked for something trivial. The man deserves a marked grave, and he wasn't getting even that. This is one of those cases where you have to shake your head and disbelief that something like this could ever happen. I have nothing but sympathy for that poor young man's parents. I send my condolences to the widow also, even though this trial has put her in a place where it is very hard for anyone to feel sympathy for her, because her act was infamous and disgusting.

Wow. The judge was well and truly taken in by the parents... The father "can't say if he did or didn't" say racial slurs about his daughter-in-law's father? That's the kind of thing that you *know* if you did. I wouldn't dream of saying something like that - he clearly would, but doesn't want to admit it in court so, because he's under oath, he doesn't answer and changes the conversation. The judge also totally missed that they wouldn't accept the wife until she converted to their faith and that, despite saying that he was "going to lead the funeral", the father didn't marry them, so clearly that wasn't the deceased's wish. The wife arranged the funeral for the same place they were married - which sounds more like she was following his wishes as, if he didn't want to be married by his father in Nebraska, why would he want to be buried there by him? The wife was very young when all this happened, but she's receiving no empathy for that. She didn't handle it well - but, realistically, who would? She's no saint, and has either missed or ignored a number of things, but those parents have clearly been awful to her. The judge spent this case listening to the parents and not allowing the wife to tell her side or have the chance to explain her actions. Horrifically handled. As for determining what the extra body parts were *after* the mother was clear that she didn't want to know? Heartless. Won't be watching this horrendous "judge" again.

However the father was waaaay shiftier than that, dodging the question and not acknowledging any hurt he could have caused (intentionally or not), which leads me to believe that he was not being honest.

This was very hard to watch. I'm a vet who took place in the initial invasion and was in Iraq for a year. I was disabled from an IED that also caused a fellow soldier to lose his leg. Many soldiers get married before they go to war because not only do they get paid more, but the wife will receive benefits. While she may have just been avoiding things because she didn't want to reminded of the event, it appears more likely that she did not have the love for him that he deserved, especially posthumously. Regardless of either lack of love or strength, she was most certainly in the wrong. We have to do things we don't want to do in times of adversity. This soldier deserved better.

You said it. I think that the wife should've just put any problems aside and tried to deal with the in-laws on their joint loss. But some people let these things get in the way of what's right. It's like in Fences where Cory doesn't want to go to his dad's funeral because of the disagreements they had years ago.

No, I've read about this couple. They did care for each other. It was that she didn't get along with the in-laws and couldn't put aside differences once Brandon died. I don't think she was happy he was killed and did love him and didn't marry him for money. If he was still alive, they would still be married and maybe have kids.

@@ImmortalAbsenon judge was in her right to ask. She may not have understood why the military didn't wait until they had entire body. She may have wanted to know in order to understand why the grave needed to be reopened. Or, to see what kind of person each of them were. The widowed wife could have much more tact. As a military veteran, I assumed it was his legs; however, there were many way she could have told the judge without being so blunt and uncaring of her in-laws.

@@teresasuggs174 Teresa, I am so sorry to hear about from you. I am so sorry to hear about your love going like that. So sorry to hear about your loss. Your right, murder is a terrible thing that you should not be going through, no one should be going through. I hope that the authorities caught the bastards that did your hubby in. Again I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I know that time will never change the pain. But, time will take some of the pain out of how you feel now. In my case, losing my lovely wife and friend isn't as raw as it was. But the pain is none the less still there. Teresa, if you ever want a shoulder to cry on o a ear that will actually be there to listen to you. Just send me a text from this site. I'll be there to help. You try to take care.

Personally I don’t like either the plaintiffs or the defendant in this case. I believe the parents are horrible, prejudice, holier than thou, religious bigots who didn’t like her from the beginning because she’s Jewish and made antisemitic comments towards her. And I believe the defendant is a greedy, selfish, trifling tag chaser who did her veteran husband a disservice. The only person who did right in this case was Brandon. Thank you for your service to our country Brandon, and may you Rest In Peace.

This is one of the few times Jeanie’s condescending tone has been HIGHLY warranted. I would pay MONEY to see Judge Judy handle this case
