The one thing I agree with (too late now) is that Joe Biden should have never agreed to debate Trump. They are a farce and with Trump's pathological lying, VERY VERY difficult for even the sharpest debater to put him down with sarcasm and wit. This was just a way the Trump campaign could get more footage and selectively slice and dice it to make the votes doubt Biden's mental capacity. They are having a field day. The sad thing about a narcissist is they project onto others what their own weaknesses are -- the Trump campaign has already been running ads that say Biden is either lying or suffering from dementia based upon one clip they have of him talking about inflation.There is no 'truth in advertising' fact checking these days. Presidential Debates lost their significance when the internet took off. I’m 71. When all we had were newspapers and television to hear our news, debates help launch candidates and gave America a chance to hear what the candidates goals were. Now we don’t need to continue this platform because we hear from these candidates every day. I don’t care for all the jokes flying about President Joe Biden’s age. And the likelihood that he won't even know his own name by the beginning of the next term WILL change some people's minds. At worst, they just don't vote. I'm disappointed, but not surprised. His excellent State of the Union speech was prepared by a speechwriter and read from a teleprompter. He seldom takes questions, and usually has a list of reporters' questions and an answer card. He prepared for this debate for a WEEK at Camp David. There were no surprise topics, and Trump was Trump. I blame the DNC for not holding him to his promise to be a one-term transition President.

@@JohnPMiller I would start with setting up the debate in the first place. He can read from a teleprompter and be energized but an off teleprompter event he more than likely does not do too well. He has done little open mic question and answer sessions where he meets adversarial press. I ask why? What do they know? Will always vote Biden because of the alternative but presenting Biden to the people in this format was not good.

seems like that was the direction of the discussion at one point. but like you indicated, if the moderator fact checks, the debate can become a partial contest.

Unfortunately, at the debate Rump played the same "cards" he always plays: lying, not answering questions, etc.! Most people are smart enough to know that Rump is an egotist who isn't smart enough to realize his lies are stupid and obvious. Sadly, while all of this is obvious, Joe Biden needed to make a good appearance at this debate and he didn't. While I do feel, Joe has been a good president, I worry about his age and where he is intellectually right now! I am willing to give him another chance if they schedule another debate soon!

Yes he has been failing for 3 years to communicate. Did he once say “Record Stock Market”? Did he mention the record unemployment and compare it directly to Trump? He just mentioned “Herbert Hoover”. Did he point out that Trump said he was going to do infrastructure and didnt, but Biden did? Saying “Chips Act and Pact act” doesn’t communicate those wins. Did he point out that if his DOJ was going after political enemies, they never would have dropped the case Bill Barr opened against Matt Gaetz. What about the auto workers and how they endorsed him and how Trump didnt even go to a union shop. How about pointing out “Well if you didn’t have sex with a pornstar why did you pay her $130k”. He could have listed all his accomplishments on the last question and ended with what he was going to do next term and finish the job. Trump ran all over him.

Now if your favorite and only news sources happen to be FOX Newsmax and other far right sources then can I respectfully suggest several very good courses covering media bias, how to spot it and disinformation in todays media ecosystems? If Liberal and left wing sources are posting verifiably incorrect info then call them out too. At this point, it's obvious the only rational choice is a vote for ROBERT KENNEDY jr, if only to protest the" choice" between these two train wrecks. Biden's debate performance frankly scared me. Russia was watching, China is watching and they are loving every minute of this. I have a gazillion critiques of Trump, but he was usual, lying Trump. And Biden's debate performance isn't allowing us to keep the lying at the forefront like it should be. Biden's family needs to step in and convince him that the country needs him to step aside for the sake of us all. Stepping aside is the last patriotic and selfless thing Biden could do for his country-- a country he says he loves so much.

When you vote for President you are voting for that candidates TEAM, you not just voting for that one person, you are voting for his entire STAFF as well. In the beginning, you mentioned Pete Buttigieg. Remember, he spent a lot of time in Iowa, and Iowa decided he was their best bet. He also did well in New Hampshire securing a very close second to Bernie Sanders. Many simply did not know Pete well enough, but I bet many more do now. Other than the tired trope, well I like him but, this country is not ready for a gay president, he would be a phenomenal contender to take on trump. Imagine a debate between those two. trump would not have a chance. Not even close.

Our country's standards have fallen so low, President Clinton was impeached for something so insignificant compared to what Trump is. This is not the time to turn on Joe. He had a bad night at a critical time, but the memory of the American public is notoriously short. There is plenty of time to do damage control, and so much can happen between now and November. This is the time to take a page from Joe Biden's life story after a significant loss... rally and fight harder.

It is about independents, progressives, young people, etc. There are already enough people believing the economy is all the fault of Biden and Democrats. Someone needs to be able to rise in ANY situation (not just a teleprompted, scripted one) and explain that is wrong and what is true about our system. Unfortunately a lot of ignorant people are going to hang all their woes on Democrats and Joe Biden. They may not vote for Trump, but sitting home IS a vote for Trump. That is the nature of the game.

It was a great debate between the best of the best. It's so hard to choose! LOL

How long have you been running cover for Joe?

I don't know but the thought of the Democratic delegates and super delegates choosing a candidate to replace Biden doesn't seem like a bad idea. They would at least be able to make an informed decision, and once they're backing one person, it wouldn't be hard to get the rest of the Democrats on board. No Democrat wants Trump to win. We'd vote for a broken wheel instead of Trump. Hence, Biden on the ticket!

Trump debate is just points from his rally. So Biden should already have zingers one sentence come back when state Trump points.

Biden just had a good performance in North Carolina. What a difference a day makes. He was strong and spoke well.

Why are Biden, Trump or CNN telling the American people who may be eligible to debate? Why not all the parties able to participate in the debate? We should all be able to see and hear all of the candidates. This whole process is so antithetical to democracy.

Biden missed many opportunities' to call out Trump's many many many lies. I was very disappointed.

I beg to differ. He said after nearly every time that Trump spoke that it was all a pack of lies. He would then elaborate on certain points in Trump's lies. I think he objected where he could and the format allowed.

I did not listen to this debate - because how can one debate a serial liar? But then again, why did Joe suggest this?

Biden has a lifelong stutter. This does not affect his ability to be president. It does however affect his ability to speak quickly in a timed speech. I will vote Biden no matter if he has a rough night!

His advisors should have told him he was not capable of going beyond the generic, the billionaire tax talking point is an inside look of where he put his mental energy. He tried to make a small policy speech with details like the old days where he should use a simple topic: note (TAXES: billionaire tax/balance budget/lower fees and taxes/skip the details) practice tuning that note into a 1-minute answer. He would be matching Trump where greatest or like you never saw goes as a detail. Have 1 or 2 short dumbed down talks for each topic that may come up, find the closet match if it is not on the list. He would have had space left on his note card for responses to 3 or 4 Trump lies if he did that. This is not a case of firing the player, the coach and GM should get fired or put on a new hat for 80-year-old Biden. He has to realize he no longer has the mental energy to be the long-winded guy you can't shut up, save that for the prepared rallies with scripts.

I get a debate isn't "being president." But dang, how are we not talking about the 25th admendment? Like the dude that couldn't get through 15 min of a debate is also the final word on the most powerful country's foriegn and domestic polciy....?? and thats fine, but we don't know if he can answer a single question he's prepared to get without trailing off into non-sense and accepting the right wing framing. I'm sorry I just don't trust that he even knows, comprehneds, empathizes with what is really happening in Gaza or can contend with the obvoius political strategy being used by Israel. The guy just shouldn't be doing the worlds hardest job if he seems to have a hard time just speaking his thoughts.

Where was the 25th amendment when agent orangeski told Americans to shine ultraviolet light and drink bleach to kill the Covid virus? Or where was it on January 6th? But Biden should step down and klobichar, Jeffries, whither we have tons of good candidates. Biden has saved this country but the presidency now with two wars has caused too much stress. His stuttering recurred because of this and he is suffering from old age. He is feeble, although wise and beloved. He needs rest, relaxation and he can advise the new candidate. He can still play a large role in politics but should not be forced to serve in the most stressful position as president. Trump is a criminal and fascist. If Biden can’t turn this around soon he will step down

Why don't we have a debate where they both are in their own natural comfort zone a golf course, where on each start of each hole that can do an interview debate and then complete the next portion of it the end of the course turn it all the way through the 18th hole ⛳ by God President Eisenhower ran the whole damn government between golf rounds, 🆗🤷🏻‍♀️ I think we'll get more sensible answers out of both of them okay
