Mike Tyson ferocious here but hasn't reached his very best yet . Tillis got some serious battering but came to fight as if he were a champion. He knew how to use his height advantage unlike most other opponents. Crédits to both.

Excuse my English, I'm writing from Italy, I'm using google translated, I hope you can understand my thoughts. On May 9, 1986 Myke Tyson, (20 years old) faces 29 years old James Tillis in the ring at Civic Center, Glens Falls (NY). Tyson had 20 fights to his credit, all won by knockout. Tillis boasted a record of 39 matches of which 31 won and 9 lost before the limit. Why remember this match after about 40 years away? because james Tills had all the psycho-physical characteristics to beat Myke Tyson, and he came very close, losing on points after 10 hard-fought rounds. Until that evening, no boxer had managed to finish the match with Myke Tyson on his feet, Tillis not only finished the match on his feet but was defeated for a few points of difference, that evening Tillis highlighted the boxing technical deficiencies of Myke Tyson, held at a distance, hit with a precise and powerful one-two Iron Myke could be stopped and then beaten and Tillis came close by virtue of his better physical prowess, elegance, footwork, fast left jab immediately followed by a right precise and powerful. Tillis' weakness was that he didn't like to sweat, didn't like to train hard, didn't like to work hard, and all the lost matches were due to physical loss after 5-6 rounds. American to have learned the teachings of the great, inimitable Muhammed Alì, speed of legs and arms, elegance, intelligence, ability to fight back as only Alì knew how to do. In my opinion, if this guy had listened to the advice and teachings of his great coach Angelo Dundee we would have found him among the greats of American boxing.

"...Culminative moment of the fight came at 2:45 of the fourth round, when Tillis charged at Tyson with a leaping left hook, missed, and went off-balanced while pivoting on his left foot. Tyson slipped the punch and promptly switched to orthodox, throwing a leaping left hook of his own that landed right to the Tillis' chin, Tillis went down immediately. Tillis got up quickly at the count of "Two." That was the only knockdown during the entire fight, it cost Tillis a point, and subsequently a round on all the three judges' scorecards, and eventually the fight, which otherwise would have been ended a draw.[2] Initially, the crowd was rooting for Tyson, but in the later rounds it turned somewhat against Tyson due to him being unable to knock Tillis out, and after the ring announcer Paul LeFlore announced the judges' decision, pronouncing Tyson as the winner by a unanimous decision, the crowd booed wildly when referee Joe Cortez raised Tyson's hand. Being interviewed by the ABC Sports Network staff, Tyson himself said I (Tyson) just "fought a guy who was up for this fight, in the greatest shape in his life."...en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Tillis

Mike had stopped growing as a fighter long before Buster Douglas. Stopped the Great head movement, quit coming out methodically cutting off the ring, and started the little skip step straight at the opponent. Just lost the discipline that made him so great early on. His corner was a bunch of thugs that knew less about boxing than Mike. Didn't even have an ice pack, used a rubber glove with cold water in it.
