Was at this fight and I remember going to a steakhouse/micro brewery called Big Bucks in Auburn Hills the evening before the fight, and Mike had been there and left the young man waiting on him a 10k tip. Young man probably around 19-20 and his position in life was changed at that moment. Mike had told him he knew how hard it was to be young and coming up in life and appreciated the young man's hard work and just enjoyed being able to help him out. I'm paraphrasing of course, but his words were to that affect. Anyway I was not a Tyson fan at that time "at all" (I was always a Holyfield fan) but my entire opinion of this man changed in that moment. Genuine guy with a genuinely good heart. Mikes a legend the world will never forget, and it's just awesome to see him doing so well today. Much love Mike!!!!

Golota had his orbital bone fractured in multiple places and was diagnosed with a brain hemorrhage at the hospital immediately following this fight. He was hurt to the brain and fortunately had the self awareness to realize something was very wrong. I like everyone else was furious at his quitting as it seemed so cowardly at the moment. Looking back now in hindsight having the knowledge of what was actually going on in Golotas brain at that time I'm grateful he chose to quit that night. Otherwise it's quite likely he would have suffered severe injury or death. At the very least he would have been "changed" permanently. His constant stuttering during the post fight interview was an obvious sign of his brain injury, but we didn't pay it any mind at the time, I didn't anyway. I saw the fight live so I didn't see the interview until the next day and I was still so aggravated I just overlooked it. Hindsight is 20/20. Andrew we're not angry aymore, and I'm glad you came through that fight alright in the end. P.S. The Ruiz fight was plain highway robbery. "Everyone" knows you beat that man's ass. God bless you sir.

Tyson was a HW boxing midget (178 cm height, 180 reach), very explosive and almost certainly doped. Golota is a second-rate boxer, an absolute anti-talent, two levels below Željko Mavrović. Tyson never had the strength for 12 rounds because of the accumulated muscle mass that gave him strength but quickly tired him. Tyson should be fought like Lenox Lewis, distance control, not allowing him in-fight, quick counter punches, and exhaustion in clinch. Tyson is the most overrated boxer of all time.

You can hear Gollota saying "stop the fight" after the first round. The commentators heard it, his corner heard it, but I think Gollota chose right to stop the fight. You can't get too pissed about guy who was clearly worried for his safety. But if your a fighter and you get to that point it's time to quit the sport. I got no problem with someone throwing in the towel before they get in the ring instead of waiting until they step foot in the ring to throw the towel in. Hopefully Gollota learned from this mistake. His corner clearly didn't listen to him so I think they have some culpability because they of all people should know the mental state of there fighters.

All those people throwing trash at Golota, and all these keyboard warriors need to know: the man had a concussion, so was not thinking straight. He also had a broken cheekbone. He had a herniated right disc, making movement very difficult. The disc was herniated before the fight, yet he still got in the ring - you can see by how up-right he started that he just had no movement. His corner should have pulled him from the fight beforehand, but they were a bunch of cowboys who were out for a payday ("use the fucking right hand"!!!??? Where did this guy learn to train?) and they let him be a hero instead of looking after him. Guess what happens if you get in the ring with Tyson with a broken back? You get your cheekbone broken and a concussion - if he'd have carried on it'd've only got worse. Golota's cornermen robbed him of their pay and robbed him of his pride. They are an absolute disgrace.

What was sad and I understand Golota, is that his trainer at the time did very little training. If I remember reading correctly his trainer missed almost 40% of all scheduled times, on top of this they never did ANY muscle nor cardio training nor speed training. Even after this fight one can clearly see in following fights that he was slow, or rather slower than he was pre mike tyson. I honestly feel that Andrew could had if not beat at least gotten a draw out of this fight with proper training and a proper corner. I am unsure any one heard but the manager/trainer when AG refused to go on the manager said you suck. Thats not how you treat your fighter under any circumstances.

true, people will argue if he's in the top 5 of boxings greatest... If you watch his first 20 fights you see serious dodging of punches, more movement, excellent counters, all his fights ended before the 5th, then came Buster Douglas... showing a skilled fighter with reach will stand more than a chance for tyson... that's why i feel he got so frustrated during the Holyfield fight and starting biting...

42:50 - Nice knock-down scoring! I believe Mike Tyson really had done his homework on boxing Andrew Golota as he used more head-movement then he had done in recent fights combined with that Tyson knew that putting early pressure on Golota makes him stressed up and loses his handeling. Also that Tyson knew evreytime when to throw a right-hand bomb at Golota when Golota used his left to long trying to make distance. I believe Tyson took that lesson from when his era-rival Lennox Lewis destroyed Golota in 1 round back in 1997.

This just shows you the hearts of many. Oh! My bad. They didn't have 1. Being on the outside looking in as a fan, you can tell that Andrew was still hurt from that knock down in rd 1. The WHOLE second rd he was in defensive mode & holding on to Mike just to make it through the rd. He threw punches with no power just to help take seconds off the clock. The man was fkn hurt. & even though Tyson did headbutt, it wasn't intentional nor do I believe it was part of the reason of Andrew's decision to discontinue. He just used that as a curve ball. I ordered this fight on PPV just like I ordered all the other boxing & wrestling PPV. I never got mad about how long the fight lasted, because if you are a TRUE fan of the sport, you know that's the chance you take. Paying anywhere from 3 minutes of action to 36 minutes of action. I didn't pay to watch a person go brain dead or die. I paid for a live PPV death once before watching Owen Hart fall to his death. Ruined the rest of the night for me personally. So I was glad to see Andrew take charge of his own, because they not the one getting hit with hundreds of lbs of pressure in the face multiple times. Money can be made, an AUTHENTIC person can't be. Just in case a smart ass respond with, cloning a person. 😂
