He looks like he’s just having a good time. Doesn’t even seem to be straining. Drums like he owns it and does background vocals. He’s unreal.

it takes a brave man to back down ... this right here is why thats a bad thing your voice cant do that anymore ... more evident as this appears to be backline sound ... im almost certain some backing vocals could cover the cracks ...no need to go on reality TV

He doesn't say it, but you can cleary hear that the left bass drum is not heard, listen 4:27 on this video, then compare it with around 4:31 on the original.

its obvious the intro requires double kciking but all you hear is the right kick being set off.

One o the best drummer's to have ever graced us with his presence & skills...

I know there have already been a million comments made about James's voice, so I guess I will make it a million and one. How could such an otherwise incredibly talented band not hear what millions of their fans hear every night that they play? My only explanation is that they are being loyal to a fault. That is admirable, but not when it brings down the whole vibe and sound of an otherwise awesome show. I will admit that earlier on in their career he sounded good live, but not anymore and I for one wont spend anymore of my hard earned money for tickets to see them live until they replace him with someone who can actually sing. I am serious, for the last decade or so he has been holding this band back big time. Just my very humble opinion. Take care and peace!!!!!

It's really nice to get to see the drummer thru the entire piece. Especially a drummer who's as good as Mike is. It's a trip to watch.

Portnoy's drums sounds great! Ilove it do much.

I am a guitar player but I always love me some Portnoy he is just so damn talented and makes it look so easy.

What the hell is with the two top comments being about the singer, this video is about the drummer Mike Portnoy and his amazing skills and his performance. What he does astonishes me in this video, he's coordinating his limbs all over the place and still finds time to do other things while still keeping the beat, he even recovered quite nicely from a fail at a drum stick catch. This guy is amazing.

This is one of the best drum solos ever,if it was just a solo, personally my favorite one.

Portnoy made Dream Theater come alive... another good call at 1:05 getting the bass turned up... pity it couldn't drown out James shrieks.

Drum any way! I've drummed for 40 years and could never be as good as Mike. Drumming is fun! Do it and take it as far as you can. And every day you wake up in the morning, you'll have something in mind that you want to get up and learn. What Mike does, any drummer can do! don't ever give a dream! It just takes time.

Man, I watch this man play drums and I want to became a drummer!

And this is why Portnoy is the best. He definitely knows his left bass drum isn't mic'd properly, or it's completely off. Yet he still plays with both feet, doesn't miss a beat, and even kills the fills! He was literally the heartbeat and soul of DT. Now it just sounds like LaBrie, Petrucci, and Myung are playing with a drum machine. There's no more feeling in the music.

Mike is a dynamic, powerful, driving force of creativity. There is so much of him in these songs and without him DT is not the same band. Such a shame because he doesn't come to life like this in his other projects.

DT is great band but Portnoy was the key element YES Mangini is doing an unreal job GREAT drummer but Portnoy had a different sound style wonder if way down the road they'll be a reunion you never know The Winery Dogs are a great band and achieving success and Mike is phenomenal in that line up a much easier gig but he obviously is loving it

A Tabish He's done nothing special with DT for me, but then again neither has teh band in a while. And Jarzombek would have been too strong of a voice in the band. I'm happy Jim Matheos recruited him for Fates Warning. They've released two great albums with him. Theories of Flight is the album of the year for me.

It's amazing how Mike Portnoy really seemed to have a lot of fun playing in this video

Hes fun to watch and daydream that im him behind the drumset. Everybody should check out the band "Tallah" , the drummer is none other than Max Portnoy. He has alot of his Dad in him and im looking foward to hearing more songs from them!-!

If anyone didn't know, James LaBrie was going through this whole tour with damaged vocal chords after violently puking from food poisoning. He's an amazing singer nowadays again. Saw him in Royal Oak MI in Oct. 2011
