    Our opinion: the most elegant rock n' roll and metal drummer ever. Wild and technical at the same time. We miss Portnoy days playing those songs so much!

    @@davegods278 Mangini's useless parlor tricks never produced an album like the second DT album (first w/ Labrie). So, I'd say Mangini was already beat. With that being said, Gergo Borlai absolutely crushes Mangini.

    In 1982 maybe. I can’t listen to DT live because of him. I completely stopped listen to DT since MP left. Labrie in DT is like Lars in Metallica to be. Both be the reasons why I can’t listen to the band live.

    I wish the original recording had the same snare sound as here. I love the song in Images and Words I just can't stand how the snare sounds.

    I think I've read it somewhere (or i've seen it) DT says that the snare in Images and Words is triggered. That explains the relatively flat velocity though

    hahahaha it's like: Portnoy thinks "Oh Yeah, DRUM SOLO!" then Labrie sings "Before the leaves have fallen....." the Portnoy's face says "What?!?!?!?!" and then he takes it out on his drum kit

    You can see what I believe is the part that Labrie skipped here at 8:20, in live in Chile 2005 ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/f2xlpap8csbdodY.html ) starting arround 2:35:00 (despite they have played it starting with the pull me under).

    I love how you can hear mike yell. And you can see him getting more and more upset as they had to close the song out. I think on the fourth wall one james doesn't change the city to where he's at in trial of tears, and I think he laughs even..

    At 8:19, he definitely did. You can hear Petrucci started playing something and had to bail out, even mike's reaction shows something was up.

    K&L Trainz No, listen to the album version and you'll see he comes in correctly, after Rudess's descending notes and after in the album version where Portnoy plays lots of notes on the splashes

    Nicolas Fro It's because, when doing live, they use this part to jam and have fun for a while. Looks like LaBrie wasn't very much in the mood and got back straight to what was on CD. hahahahaha. Obviously Portnoy was very pissed and used the end of the music to destroy in the way that he wanted to do.

    Although I like Pearl drums, I would definitely get Starclassic Maple (MP's left side/"big side" of this kit) if I didn't have anything else. Sounds amazing!

    Because when your guitar or your amp is broken, you change it, you buy a new one, when your bass sounds like shit you get a new one, but if you're ill, or if your body isn't working, you can't do a shit about, plus most bands when touring have to do concerts every night, and sometimes, you don't have enough time to recover properly, i don't think he's a great vocalist, definitely not one of my favorites, but singers suffer with many problems that instrumentalists don't have to.

    My first DT concert was in 97 was amazed by Labrie he was incredibly good, watched them live last 3y ago , Labrie sounded terrible, really really bad ... miss Portnoy in the band though

    As much as I appreciate Mike live drumming, I had to stop after the first few minutes because of Labrie. Such a downer. Can’t even listen to DT live because of him. I never understood why they kept him in.

    I don't understand what really happened in DT. I mean they have such fun, skillful and the best musically drummer but let him left the band. And you have such low level vocalist, but let him stay. DT lost their fun jamming since Portnoy left.
