Flow is defined by 3 elements: 1: Freedom from social concerns- you do it for the activities own sake. 2: Continuous and immediate feedback- you know how well you are doing 3: Intense concentration- you are fully concentrated on the task at hand.

A great description of FLOW 1:26-3:32. Flow is described as being completely carried away almost like being in a river and the flow of the river takes them on. Flow happens in Arts, Sports, Music and every time a person is really involved in what they are doing. They have very focused, and very clear goals. Thumbs up if the movie "HAPPY" brought you here.

Flow is incredibly important when interacting with children. I propose they are anxious when we are not present. They sense intuitively our presence.

Artists and musicians know and experience the state of flow. The flow experience can be applied to anything you want to achieve in life. Being in the state of flow enables the experience of total involvement in what we enjoy doing, whilst being creative to develop something that has meaning. FLOW is an art itself.

Agreed. Very few actually know the feeling or are committed to a task enough to feel it.

Video Games. as a kid, I could play the video game 16hrs at a time. very few brakes. What brought me here is that I want to find my flow as an adult. I'm 29, I have a few things that will challenge me now, I guess I'm gearing up & using this information as a tool to help me get through these next few challenges. thanks, I have a new outlook on life now.

I feel not included in your studies. I'm an engineer and I can tell you that I'm in a similar state of mind while i'm studying or discovering something like an artist, a painter or a musician. The flow fits also for the scientists.

That similar state is common enough in my computer programming world that we usually look for it before speaking to one another so as not to needlessly disrupt it.

This fits for any task. There are too many to name. When I ride my motorcycle, I need to ease off thinking about every thing I do and just let it happen. Trust your surroundings, Gaming, work, fixing cars, drawing, designing all involve flow. Its wonderful to feel it and be in the zone!

'Flow' can be interrupted, or disrupted. To get into 'Flow' takes time, it is not instantaneous, starting a new task, a new job, learning a new skill, all take time. Indeed at work, if you are new to the company, to get into 'Flow' could possibly take months.

Flappy bird is a good example of the flow theory used in games. It seems like in your Katjepult game you used it as well.

Dear Michele, thank you very much for your interest. We would suggest to check out Professor Csikszentmihalyi's book "Good Business - Leadership, Flow and the Making of Meaning", which is dedicated to this topic. Or you can check out the official Csikszentmihalyi's Leadership Program, "FLOW is Good Business" (abbr. "FLIGBY"), which is an award winning online Serious Game (Simulation) just finished this September. Here is the link: fligby.com

I would like to use the concept of flow at work, for example by designing tasks in such a way that it would facilitate the state of flow. Anybody has experience with this?

I read the book Flow but I have not clearly understood how can actually APPLY its principles to a company. Has someone actually written something more specific about it?

Is flow in any way related to depersonalization or derealization? I experienced both during my first flow experience during my martial arts participation, and later in my musical endeavors. Subjectively, there is the rather paradoxical feeling of being both present and absent, connected and detached. I wonder if this is so for others, or is related to my personality pathologies (schizoid with subclinical schizotypal traits)

My first memory of experiencing "flow" was in 5th grade reading an oral report. I remembr starting and then finishing. Don't know exactly what my mouth said as I read it through.
