Helluva fight. Ruddock tried "the Smash" on Tyson many times but couldn't stop him. Always admired Ruddock's toughness, courage, and sportsmanship. Great fighter.

Fightning with a broken jaw. Huge respect for Ruddock. This fight is so much better than the fights we see these days. This is the golden era for me personally..

Broken jaw one was a different fight I guess, there first meet. This was 2nd meeting. In the first meet they had rivalry and Mike had personal hatred. Here they look friends after the match. This is not that broken jaw fight.

The 2 Ruddock fights were my favorite Tyson fights. Just brutal.

Let's not pretend or ignore how small Tyson is compared to this tree trunk and a whole lot of heavyweights he fought all through his carriers. Bro height don't matter when your built like an absolute tank Mike was smaller than all the heavyweights but only in height in actual build he was miles over them he was a massive brute with speed and defense and of course his mean ass power

Mike was seriously tested here, Razor was strong as an bull. Awesome banging

what i enjoy is watching fighters want to take each other's heads off during the fight, then ultimately embrace and show mutual respect after the final bell.

@David Mc Tyson was not overated when he was a champion he beat what was there at the time and he managed to put all those championships together in one weight class not many did it before him and about the amateur fights it's good experience but when you turn pro it's a different ball game and as you know at one time the hwd fighters didn't weight more than 225 to 250 max and were fighting 15 rds it's a big difference it's different world today boxing is no longer what it used to be or used to mean.

Yes. He tried it against Berbick and missed with the uppercut before nailing him with the left hook to the temple to put him down. But against P Thomas, near the end Tyson connected with the uppercut and snapped Thomas' head way up and it was over about 30 seconds later.

True but I think thats because Ruddock never hit Mike at the same spot. He hit on body alot aswell while Douglas or Lewis were attacking same area using their jab. Also, Mike has always been durable despite if his size. Holyfield landed like 30 punches in last 2 rounds and Mike was still standing somehow, and the cut was from headbutt not punches.

The guys who beat Tyson beat him but not easily without giving him everything they had. Even Lewis said in the post fight interview how shocked he was that Mike was able to take his right hands. The only time he wobbled back up was after the buster Douglas ko.

@Vex T Absolutely. Most of Tyson's 'low blows' were body shots (a few were indeed low, but nowhere near as many as the commentators and ref kept declaring). Think of it this way, although Tyson could be a bit 'dirty' at times in his prime (usually the elbow in one or two fights) he very rarely used low blows. The fights speak for themselves.

@@edgar22452 you mentioned that many times that i have to tell you a fact: bare hand punches do much more damage than the gloves , the power of it concentrates on single points that are knuckles unlike with gloves where it spreads. To put that in perspective, imagine someone hitting you with a bar of metal, would you like to take it 'bare' or engulfed in a pillow?

This my favorite Mike Tyson fight. Damn Rusdock is togh. He took multiple Tyson head shots and survived. Even when Tyson did knock him down, he jumped right back up. This was beautiful

With the exception of a couple of fights Mike Tyson has always shown great sportsmanship to his opponent despite trash-talking before the fight...

To be honest Tyson could never handle really Great Fighters. All Really Great Fighters he ever faced brutally knocked him out. Starting with Douglas who was only a really Good fighter.

Ruddock was one mighty opponent.. this two hard hitters really pushed it to the limit.. great sportsmanship at the end..

The two Tyson fights just about finished Ruddock as a potential Champion, he was never quite the same again after that

Enough with excuses , as opposition improved Tyson lost as do so many great fighters , with Rooney he didn't blow away bonecrusher Smith or Tony tucker. Dosnt really say much for Tyson as a fighter if he can't win without Rooney does it ??

Back when heavy weight does look like heavy weight.

It's always heartwarming to see after such brutal beatings on both sides these men have so much emotional maturity to hug.

It always fascinated me on how these guys were exchanging punches like it was nothing. And how can tyson hang with people bigger than him is unreal.

Ruddock was a bulked fighter originally he was much more lighter than Tyson moreover he looked skinny when he lost to the bum David Jaco..

So much admiration for Ruddock but he seemed to have brought out the best in Tyson, in all respects of his arsenal

What a great punch Ruddock used in that fight, dropping his arm and whipping in that uppercut, must be really hard to see that coming. Brilliant fight, brilliant fighters.

I was a child during the Tyson era, it was a pity i couldn't watch any of his fight because my father wouldn't allow it. :-( What a great era! :-)

Ruddocks trunks were high. All of those weren’t low blows. Guys were afraid of Tyson going to the body and purposely wore their trunks high. Great fight though. Ruddock could have been an all time great but he fell in love with his power and became a headhunter. He was a good boxer.
