The slipping with the 'pry tool' was painful to watch. If you just use a flat headed screwdriver, place it in the slots where the fan clips are and gently move the handle towards the middle of the fan as you pull up on the fan shroud. You'll be less likely to damage the board and this can be done without having to remove all the components... just a heads up for anyone doing this

video helped ordering the fan off amazon i saw they carry them and other parts for now though i just need a fan it squeaks loud unless i give it a light tap it goes away .

This video allowed me to realize I can replace that fan for like $30 and not pay $125 for a company to do it. It’s an easy fix! Thank you

If it sounds like the fan is spinning and somthing is caught in it then yes its probably the fan.

The fact that he didn't just take off the green screws in the back😂😂😂 that's all that need to be removed to get the white shell off of the metal inner casing

replaced my fan with a new one, but it doesn't work. I put the old one back in and it just spudders a few times and then the system shuts off. Could both fans be bad? Have I damaged the motherboard?

I would try re applying thermal paste to the CPU. If this doesn't fix it its possible that there is a power short somewhere on the motherboard, or power supply

I'll try that. Everything was working at the beginning of this project. It was just that the fan had a super loud squeal.@@Joesge

tried that. no luck. the original fan still turns on for a moment and then the system powers off, and the new fan still does nothing. Power supply was working fine b4 this. pins for the fan connector to the boeard do not look damaged but clearly something is not working.

I took everything off and I replaced everything back on but every time I turn on the Xbox button it'll wait 5 seconds and it would just turn off

This could be a number of things, but usually its because the fan is plugged in improperly.

Followed the tutorial just right, and everything seems to work. However, I DO want to point out that when I was reparing it, I cut my index finger. Idk what I cut it on, but to everyone else out there, please be careful of anything sharp. I'm assuming it was one of the circuit boards 🤷‍♂️

It was most likely the metal housing or even the heat sink.

What does it mean when you turn the Xbox off and the fan stays on??

If it stays on for awhile, then its just the Xbox cooling itself off, your Xbox is never really all the way off unless it is unplugged. If the fan stays on for hours and hours at a time after you turn it off, it could be shorted.

@@Joesge I feel like that is what it is I might have a shortage in my fan which is pretty dumb cuz the Xbox is only like a year old and I brought a brand new

Removing the disc drive is enough; unless you feel the need to clean everything.

Might as well clean it all up if your in there already.

Theres videos from 5 years ago going into more detail. I was hoping for any updates to fans we can get or if we still need an adapter or splicing. You didn't even use it new fan 😒 🙄
