YESS!!!!!! Thanks for the video. People online could hear my fan through my mic and said it sounded like a jackhammer. Very annoying. Stretched out the spring. Cleaned up everything. My Xbox is on and completely silent now. Thanks again!

Is it like the sound of crickets? Mine sounds like a bunch of crickets so may have a go at what u did here. EDIT- I had a look at my fan and the snap ring was the issue, however you can't take it out because the fan will drop and grind against the heat sink. May have to replace the fan.

Yer you need to put the snap ring back in you can't leave it out as stated in the video you have to stretch the spring out and put back together with the snap ring reatatched

Now what if I have a console that decides to start spinning it's noisy Ass fan in the middle of the night its an Xbox one S

So was this ticking constantly or just came on and it does it every one or two seconds

so initial 5 min testing seems to have fixed the clicky noise in my xbox, funny i never even used my xbox much maybe 30hrs tops, but it had that clicking noise. I applied bicycle bearing grease to the fan bearings as well. But note, when reapplying the c-clip the second bearing (which sets the vertical tension height for the fan blades has a tendency to be pushed down - making the fan sit lower than from the factory). I could not reassemble the fan without pushing that second bearing down - a very poor design more microsoft (why have a freefloating bearing...). At any rate it doesn't seem to touch the heatsink which would be the main issue and it is much quieter - however i think the sound may return with use. You could potentially just replace the fan with a standard 120mm noctua PC fan but you may have to resolder the 4pin fan connector since the xbox connector seems proprietary and smaller.

I have actually replaced another xbox fan with one from a pc and was able to plug the fan straight onto the connector. However I did have some issues with the fan speed and had to run a resistor in parralel to slow the fan down to an acceptable level of noise.

I replaced it with a be quiet Silent Wings 3 and 4-pin adapter, another tuber has a vid on it. I threw in a 500gb ssd while I was at it, now it’s quiet and fast.

It's odd to me cause my XB1 made a smooth noise but definetly isnt as loud as the new S I unboxed today. I mean it's a steady clicking sort of sound and isnt too bad but I hope it's normal

OK, I've taken it apart, got to the fan, there's no snap ring. That's not good.

Havent tried this. Ive tried other bearings, re-oiled bearings, without spring, with a double sided tape bit on the top. But still the buzzing sound. My Xbox was dead silent the first couple of weeks then it just went bzzzzz on low rpm/speed. One strange thing though. On the inside of the magnet theres a black plastic piece "glued" on. What the heck. Dont think its supposed to be there. Not interfering.. but. Im going to stretch out the spring and see if that works. If not i buy a replacement fan. I just cant live with this.. small problem.. hey ;)

I know the fan is a really poor design to be fair. On my older xbox I just took the fan out and replaced it with a coloured pc fan that's another option.

You can get an adapter but I just had it spinning at a constant speed and worked fine. Used a dab of hot glue on the corners of fan👍🏻

How tf do you get the snap ring off

I removed the spring and it works perfect alothough the fan is constantly spinning should I play or put the spring back ( when the spring was in it kept on overheating and the Xbox would just turn off)

More than likely dust is causing the fan to slow down and become noisy and its not cooling properly. Needs to be taken apart and cleaned

You need a small cross head screw driver you might want an adult to give you some help with it as there alot of small pieces. If your not sure on doing it I wouldn't open it up

I just bash my Xbox ever now and then cause I know when ever I try something like this I always f it up

I dont know if its the same ticking sound, but i've noticed that my brothers one s makes these really loud computer sounds (especially when starting up) and when he goes to really quiet but large places in red dead 2 I can easily hear them going. I dont think its much of an issue since its been 3 years and no issues, but I just found that interesting since I haven't noticed it on any other xbox

Sounds like the dvd drive isn't reading the disk or there is sometging broken in the disk drive assembly. If you take apart the xbox like in my video you can take out the disk drive and either clean or replace.

I accidentally fell asleep with my xbox on overnight and woke up to my xbox doing this ticking sound I personally don't get annoyed by it as I have headphones on but I'm worried in case because I'm gonna leave it I might make it worse

Shouldn’t have tried and fixed this by myself with such limited Xbox internal knowledge. While putting the top casing on I completely broke the power button and the fan only got worse bc I broke the clip and expanding the spring only shoves it against the heating shield. Not your fault, I was just under prepared

The S is a terrible console. I've tried 3 different ones and they all make such a horrible high pitched whine noise when running. That fan and the parts on it are crap. Two of my mates with the console also have the high pitched noise problem, if you have any sensitive hearing you will never be able to turn off to it. It's the reason I'm not yet buying a series X as when I got my 3 S consoles (over a period of 6 months) there was next to nobody talking about those issues) I'm not being sucked into the process again.

Yer to be fair they are bad but I have a series x and know a few people with them and the quality of the fan must be a lot better as none of us have had the noise. They are really whisper quiet. But I get they are a lot of money to be messing around keep sending back and swapping. Have a pc also and so much easier. If something goes wrong just swap it out👍🏻
