When you removed the HDD, was it a standard 2.5" or so HDD? Found a tossed out Xbox One S in the middle of the street this morning! Outer case is about destroyed but the metal frame & covers look in good shape! Might take it apart for the HDD!

@@j.lietka9406 its a basic 2.5" hard drive, they dont use bigger, but id honestly say look at getting a 2.5" SSD, it runs much faster and has less chance of breaking

Thanks for a great tutorial I just replaced the seagate video drive that seems to of just stopped working with a 500gb Samsung ssd for £30 I was gonna leave the black bottom case off for a month or maybe permamentky as its such a ball ache to get off - I have it on a mesh metal tray under a desk, so holes under neath it and plenty of space below it, does the black under tray make a massive difference? Just cosmetic?

So long as its not on a flat surface and gets enough air circulation than its fine. It may get more dusty than normal with it off so maybe use compressed air to clean it every once and a while.

Curious, what happens after the swap. Do we have to do anything to the hhd to make to work like a firmware? Curious curious

You have to take apart your console to see which model of hard drive is in your console.

I would try uninstalling, and reinstalling the game. After that I would try cleaning all the dust out of your console. If neither of these things work, the game (depending on the game) might be too intense of a game for the Xbox to handle. Try turning down the graphics ingame and see if that helps.

Just your standard 2.5 inch HDD.

I replaced my power supply and the fan for the Xbox One S and still will not power up. The power light lights up for a brief nano second and you will hear a click and the light goes right back off. Should I be looking at the HDD replacement?

It is most likely a short on the motherboard. The Xbox one S is notorious for it.

Does the drive in xbox ever work again? Or os it permanently screwed? Ie could you take it out, format it in mac / windows then format it in windows for use in xbox? Or is it always a a case of buying a new harddrive

You can absolutely do this on the HDD that is in the console originally, and sometimes that will solve any corruption issues.

They should screw right in. Make sure you are putting them into the correct holes

You have to install the OS in a USB bro

I did exactly what you did in both the vids you linked for some reason it still does not want to work. It keeps giving the same 106 error with no start up. I don't have the money right now to just buy a new one or get it fixed which is why I'm trying to fix it myself. The OS version of the console is 22000.

If you are talking about the sata cable. Make sure to press down on the metal tab while pulling out the cable. The metal tab is a lick that keeps the cable from being removed

that is just half of the prosses, how about the software part.
