    My son-in-law passed at 33 in 2012 leaving a wife and a 6 months old son behind. His favourite music was Nothing Else Matters which I personnally discovered at his funerals. Every now and then when I think of Phil, within a delay of 24 to 48 hours, the radio plays it. Phil is still around and wants us to know he's around. I love that music, I love Metallica and yes, I love you Phil as we all do!

    It's a gateway song into Metallica imo. When you get a taste for their heavier and thrashier songs, NEM sounds like another radio friendly song. But, with all that said, I think NEM doesn't deserve the hate it gets. I fucking love it and have so many memories with it... so yeah. It's a song we love to hate but still secretly love it

  • @bt3743

    @bt3743

    @@nikbinaz and there is nothing wrong with radio friendly songs, Yes this includes pop music, regardless how you personally feel, its undeniable many many people enjoy mainstream music from the hair metal of the 80s to the dance pop of the early 2010s to whatever new genre is popular now, there is nothing inherently wrong with the music, someone can like the most brutal, death and black metal fusion bands and the catchiest, most upbeat, most produced, simplest pop songs at the same time, Personally the harshest im willing to go is Metallica and hardcore punk but i still love a lot of pop songs and artists. So a song is not objectively good or bad no matter who listens to it or how many people have heard of it.

    Yeah, but you know what... at the time, at that point in metal, and at the point in their career, releasing that song was pretty ballsy of them. James wrote this kind of love song about his girlfriend, and the guys knew they were going to get crucified for going soft if they released the thing. Risked losing cred in the midst of a who-can-shred-faster-and-make-more-eardrums-bleed climate, and perhaps get re-sorted into the fluff, commercial Hair Band power ballad bucket of the time. It would have been a lot "safer" for them to shelf this one. The fact that they can nail this, then Puppets in the next breath... These guys are gifted, true to themselves, all in, and make no apologies. They grew up along with us, yet their creations from decades past still stand. Including NEM. I don't know about you, but that's a lot more than I can say about anything I've done over the past several decades. I am still in awe of them today. If you like, I can loan you my lighter and a spare Kleenex next time they come around. It can be our little secret. ;O)

    This band is part of my life. You guys just can't immagine how much I enjoy playing 'tallica songs along with them. One day I will play riffs just as James, play solos just as Kirk, have as much creativity as Lars, rock with jason's passion, have as much technique as Rob, and finally, break the boundaries just like Cliff. Most importantly, I will continue to be a man as respectful and as down-to-earth as they all are now. Now bring S&M2 and lets have some f*cking fun!

    For me, I would be asleep, since the concert would be live at 6:30 AM for me. Interestingly enough, I’m in the same time zone as San Francisco right now, so the guys probably have to walk up like 3-4 AM to prepare, or just not sleep. This could also just be a “live” video that was already prerecorded but would have it’s own premiere to give the appearance of a live show, but I highly doubt that being the case. Various other factors also matter.

    When you have greatness, you will have ego. Most of the time Lars is correct in his assessments, it's just that most players do not want to face judgement the way he has. They use to tell Metallica they were a total shit band when they started, and their(Lar's) ego was one of the only thing that kept them fighting the world. With the good comes the bad, but I consider Lars justified in his opinions, and until I pull down a couple of world tours and $100 million dollars, I don't think I have the right to argue against him.

Each of you made a profound impact on her little soul, and shaped her view of the world as a wondrous place filled with friends she hasn't met yet. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I don't think its specifically this song, it's the entire albums direction, where they said "And Justice for all was too complicated, we needed to simplify things and make them for the radio". They wanted some huge record sales and Dad Rock manipulated it in a way so it would fit a lot of radio stations, ultimately making Metallica a household name in the mainstream, becoming the very thing they mocked years before. To be honest, to me, it's a beautiful song and will always have a special place in my heart, even if it's not conveying emotions as much to me as other ballads that came before it.

    when I saw them live in Munich 2 years ago and they played this song, damn i couldn't stop crying. like they somehow put the icing on the cake with how they play the ending live and especially how they did it in munich. it's no different than this version but it hit me so hard.

    This is def. one of the best live versions of this song. Makes me reflect on how I love myself, my life, and others people's opinions of me and my weight doesn't matter. Beautiful song and performance.

    It's just beautiful, heart touching, this letter, the way it's performed, and this orchestra turned the music more beautiful than it already was... One of the best music ever written, thank you Metallica!!!🤘❤

    Fade to Black and The Unforgiven would have sounded cool with the orchestra.

    Just wait until you hear The Day That Never Comes, probably my favorite song from the first night, Sept 6th, Lars finishes the song strong, it was epic.
