Just saw an interview, so I can address this. Misa (bass) started on piano and played some wind instruments as a child. Picked up guitar as a teen but switched to bass 2nd year of high school because a band she joined needed a bass player. She and Akane (drums) attended music school together. Kanami (lead guitar) is a very good piano player and composes the music. All three are exceptional on their instruments.

I am also told that Saiki is a pianist since age 3. Miku did not play an instrument to my knowledge(?) when the group began, so she bought a Rickenbacker 620 and started lessons with Kanami as coach and worked like hell on it, hours every day. That was 2013. Kanami is delighted to report that Miku can actually play a few fast riffs faster than herself now.

Misa's first started off playing guitar before turning to the bass, which she plays a lot like a lead guitarist would, she picks, fingers, taps and she slaps.

This band always seems to explode in the minds of pro musicians or anyone in creative arts. The aren't a corporate created band, do things you aren't supposed to do and take HUGE risks composition wise.

Band Maid is my favourite band , thanks for reacting to them! Misa, the bass player is recognised as one of the best bass players today. You must watch the double drop live video of 'Manners/Black Hole' as it really features Misa, her bass tone on 'Manners' is the bomb. Enjoy !

Great reaction. Band-Maid has a wide range of styles, but if you are liking the more chaotic side of Band-Maid then I highly recommend Black Hole. Check out their Manners / Black Hole Live double feature to see some great contrast in styles.

I think most Band Maid fans regard No God as a track that Misa (bass) particularly shines , honestly this is a walk in the park for Akane (drums), Black Hole and Warning to name 2 she brings the thunder. The rhythm section is hot in every Band Maid song it's just a matter of degree, they never just turn up. Another side of Misa's playing is that in their slower songs she lays down grooves to die for.

MISA started out learning piano as a toddler. Joined a school brass band and learned to play various horn instruments. Then picked up a guitar and played that (and sang) and finally ended up playing bass when she joined another band.

Band-Maid is amazing, you've probably seen their pictures somewhere since they've been pretty popular, they are one of those bands that made a lot of people interested in looking a japanese female rock scene that wasn"t very known in the west and most people knew bands like Lovebites through them. They are pretty progressive in their songwritting although they usually have a pretty straightforward hard rock song structure as a basis for their songs but do tons of unpredictable stuff in there while still keeping songs easy to listen to for the casual listener and very interesting for those who like more musical complexity. All the instruments stay very dynamic during the entire songs. They are definetly a band you will like

OMNG! Welcome aboard, RockdaRiff. You are embarking on (along with many others - 138 million YT views!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (118 songs with their latest album, “Unseen World” and new single drops), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5inmclsfZCanLQ.html Their later songs from albums Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Sense, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, About Us, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis! And many songs are represented with over 40 well produced music videos. kzread.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYU-JI concerts:  Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5ats6WDnpnYico.html)  ZEPP 2018  Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 (The last two are on bandmaidprime.tokyo) And some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues:  Taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kZNl1spwk9fNfdI.html  And by JOSER8845 in LA: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p6eLvNild6qqg9Y.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid Members: Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 28 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 30 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 30 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 31 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 29 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. [BAND-MAID NEWS]  BAND-MAID PRIME - Special Video Distribution Website. ** NEW ** Along with nearly 50 great play-through’s by each member, concerts and skits, Band-Maid management / label(s) have finally included the ZEPP 2018 and Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concerts at their Prime website! Fans can now see more than 50 great live performances with awesome audio, etc. like Fate, I Can't Live Without You and the great MISA / Kanami exchange in Don't You Tell Me. Those concerts are two of the best produced & performed concerts ever recorded, IMO. bandmaidprime.tokyo/  ACOUSTIC CONCERT - Their Christmas acoustic concert was unbelievable. Replays are still available at their website!  BAND-MAID's 8 state, 11 gig USA tour includes the "AFTERSHOCK FESTIVAL 2022" in Sacramento, California on Sunday, October 9 with Foo Fighters and The Warning! Nice review. One thing about Band-Maid is you never know what to expect in any one song, except surprises. The ladies tend to genre-jump a bit, and not just from song to song, but within songs. "Blooming" is a good example. Want something more on the progressive side? "Different". Want a video where Akane (the drummer) steals the MVP? "Warning". Want a video where everyone gets the spotlight, including the audience, the live version of "Domination". Enjoy, there are plenty more videos after those.

Nice reaction/analysis!! If you like the controlled chaos progressive stuff the Different and Black Hole are a couple of good choices. Black Hole is part of a Manners/Black Hole Live video. Manners is more of an old school bluesy rock groove song and Black Hole is the opposite. Good video because you get both sides. Different has one of the more unique riffs you will hear. As you noted the rhythm section is killer. The lead guitarist is the main composer.

I wondered when you'd get to Band-Maid. With rock, metal, blues, punk, funk, jazz and pop elements with incredible hooks combined with the right amount of technically and "progginess" to keep a smile on even the most discerning musicians, they are my favorite band over the past couple of years (all genres)!!! They have somewhere in the neighborhood of 117 songs, 40+ "official" mv's and lives!!! Speaking of live, these ladies will be doing their 12 date US tour in October, starting with the Aftershock Festival. Having seen some of the greatest rock/metal bands and musicians live since to 70's, I've never been more excited to see a band in my life (I got my VIP's for D.C.)!!! I'm a die-hard Band-Maid fan and it was actually watching your videos on Lovebites that I fell in love with the power metal goddesses as well too. I was also wondering why you never checked out Band-Maid in all the videos you've done. So glad, you finally here exploring their music. It is gonna be an even bigger rabbit hole than Lovebites that you are getting yourself in with this band. These ladies are hard rock-based but they experiment with so many different genres in music, it is always a surprise what they will do next. They have such a huge catalogue of high-quality catchy songs that it will take you a while to go through all of them. You will find even though their solos are not gonna be as over the top as Lovebites but everything they do, they do it to fit the song best. I like your analysis of music and it is great that you're sharing your knowledge. I look forward to your next reaction. Some standard recommendations: "Domination" and "Freedom" both live. Music videos: "Blooming", "Rinne" and "Choose me".

great reaction dude, musicians always seem to get it when they hear BAND-MAID. 5 super talented ladies with a beautiful diverse catalogue that allows them all to shine. Lead guitarist Kanami has written 99% of their music since their first composition "Alone" 2016 was accepted by management/record label. Rhythm guitarist and band founder Miku Kobato writes all the lyrics. No God is off last years "Unseen World" album and its an awesome proggy, rocky , metaly album from beginning to end. You might have seen the Maids on hit Netflix action move "Kate" BAND-MAID make an appearance and have 2 songs featured in the movie "Blooming" during a car chase and "Choose Me" in a night club scene. They are touring the USA in October beginning with the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento California then continuing to another 9 cities after that. all sold out except for resale tickets. The song that brought them world attention was their very first MV "Thrill" and the first song i heard from them and have been hooked ever since. the Live show from Feb 14 2020(final live in front of an audience due to covid) has many not to be missed songs and amazing crowd interaction. Domination, Play, Freedom are a great start on live. During covid they performed 5 or 6 Online concerts which were all amazing and reached 67 countries. all great shows but missing the live audience excitement and released a number of songs from those shows. Hope to see more BAND-MAID reactions, Cheers

Welcome to the pigeon hole! Best hard rock band currently playing. And check out their fall tour of the US because if they're anywhere near you you do not want to miss the show. I'm traveling a long way to see them. They're all over the place style and genre wise so you definitely can't get a handle on them with five or even 10 songs. That's the beauty of this band. They can do anything and kill it. 🎵🤘 So obviously you're going to need to listen to some more of their songs. Their latest album is quite progressive like this but there are a couple of songs on there that are more classic hard rock. You should really check out some of their classic groove oriented Rock like the song manners. Also some of their flat out kick ass hard rock from the earlier days like real existence live or onset. You can literally pick songs at random off of their channel and be amazed. That's how good they are at writing and arranging. Every member of the band is equal and they are very hard-working ladies. They're the real deal!

Love the fact that you're into metal like SOI, but have an open mind about hard rock (not everyone does). You've definitely picked up on the musical aspects of the song and this band in general (seems like it's always the musicians that get it). As others have mentioned, Band-Maid's got quite a blend of stylings, but always hold it together structurally. You can go all different directions: more in this vein, Black Hole, HGK, Giovanni; more driving hard rock, like Domination, Blooming, Rinne; more ballady stuff, like Daydreaming, Anemone. All of these are on their official channel and they won't ding you for doing your type of reaction. Got a new subscriber.

Promoters have had to scramble to add places because tickets are selling out immediately. Their fanbase in the US is such that they could probably sell out stadiums now.

MISA did play guitar before she played bass, but neither was her first instrument. She was already proficient on piano, alto horn, and trumpet before she picked up the guitar. She’s also the only member of Band-Maid that doesn’t use a click track, because she’s that good. She and Kanami (lead guitar, primary composer and arranger) are both reported to have perfect pitch.

MISA is definitely a monster on the bass. And Akane is a genius with her kit. Kanami, lead guitar, is the songwriter and holds back in most of her solos so that they don't stand out from the song. She's another genius and can definitely play when she chooses. And she's a riff writing goddess. The rhythm guitar/second vocalist, Miku, is the lyricist and fronts the band. She originally put it together. Saiki, the lead vocal, is perfect. Think of them as punk and metal influenced hard rock with pop vocals. Check out the Official Live Video for Manners/BLACK HOLE or Dice/Different.

Band-Maid MV's are very good but their Live videos are 10 times better because you can see how talented these 5 musicians really are in concert and how much fun they have on stage with each other. You should check out the official Live versions of Manners/Black Hole, Domination, Onset, Freedom, Play, After Life, Warning just to get you started. 🤙🏼Then one of the Band-Maidiacs or Maidiacs can send you some of the hard to find official Live links to Don't You Tell Me, Moratorium, Take Me Higher, Turn Me On, Puzzle (both electric and acoustic versions) If you love MISA bass play check out Band-Maid's MV Dice

Brother, the well is deep with BAND-MAID. The music video for "Thrill" is an interesting place to start for them, historically, because it's their breakout song. "Domination (Live)" is usually the song reacters start with and probably gets the most views. My favorite is the music video for "Blooming." But there's banger after banger on their YT channel.

Fab reaction. Band-Maid can RockdaRiff to the nth degree. They have the best rhythm section in Rock today. More chaotic, they do that. More mid-tempo, they do that. More ballady, they do that. More of what you like? They do that too. Check out ONSET-LIVE for an instrumental that hits it outta the park. DAYDREAMING for a power ballad beyond compare. Try the MV Warning! for a song that is literally on fire. Dozens more great Rock songs after these. You'll be happy to slide down the pigeon hole because BAND-MAID is Awesome. Peace.
