Band Maid is not metal, but Hard Rock with different styles mixed in. Huge catalog, with no bad songs. Miku, rhythm and backing vocals, formed the band and didn't play guitar when they started. Miku had the idea of the maid image mixed with hard rock and being from opposite ends of the spectrum. Kanami , lead guitar, was recruited by Miku. Kanami knew Akane, the drummer, and asked her to join. Akane knew Misa, the bass, and invited her. Miku originally was set to do lead vocals but realized her voice didn't quite work for hard rock, so putting ego aside, found Saiki, the lead singer, from auditions. Miku is learning guitar from Kanami. Misa, the bass player, is named the Barefoot Assassin, btw!

Another great reaction. Yes, it's Miku's (rhythm guitar, 2nd vocal) job to support everyone else. But what you'll find interesting is she's the one who founded the band. By all means, check out a live clip. They're really more of a live band. "Domination" or "Freedom" is recommended. Oh. and don't forget the link to Lovebites I left you in the Unleash the Archers comments. Similar to these ladies.....but power metal!

Saiki is the type of vocalist who knows what they got and utilises it well with great consistency. Early on I found her ‘playing it too safe’ doing only as required but she’s grown much more confident and experienced over the last few years and has begun to be more daring in her vocal choices as well as showing great progress in her crowd interactions onstage. Its the same for Miku the rhythm guitarist who actually started to learn to play guitar after their debut, under Kanami’s tutoring. Akane revealed in an interview that while they are both bandmates and close friends on a personal level, they are also each other’s biggest rivals too. Every member considers themselves a part of the leading role and works hard to not get left behind by the others. She sums up present BM the best, when asked why she isn’t the ‘nominal band leader’ anymore “Actually, that is no longer the case. It's true that in the past, the band operated with a leader system and I was chosen as the leader, but BAND-MAID really is made up of members with very strong and distinctive personalities and as we have progressed, various roles have been decided. For example, Kanami is the main composer and the command tower is Saiki. Kobato writes the lyrics and I manage sequencing and other things. In this manner, our distinct roles gradually solidified and all members commented that "we have become a band where all 5 members have equally important responsibilities to drive the band forward". At that moment, we discontinued the "leader"-led band model. When we had first formed, we didn't know each other and so I was told "Akane looks like the most dependable amongst us, so please become the leader", but now that I think about it, what on earth about me looked dependable, I wonder . (Now) I don't have any thoughts or feelings of "I miss being the band leader" or any hard feelings. In fact, I think that the way things work now is a better reflection of ourselves and is great.”

Two of my favorite bands-Jinjer and Band Maid. I love how they compose their songs. There is so much flair musicians and people who listen carefully will pick up. The drummer plays triplets and fills when she doesn't need to, the bass and drums play their own lines vs one leading the other, Kanami (lead guitarist) is often soloing in the background when she could just repeat a phrase. The second chorus is often different from the first. Transitions, like Jinjer, are masterful. And that guitar tone...Lots to appreciate for careful listeners.

From JAPAN Thank you for Reaction Band-Maid. They are hard rock band and are now considered by fans to be one of the best hard rock bands in the world. They usually perform 23 songs and 2 hours live. They were formed in Japan in 2013 by side guitarist Miku Kobato. Kobato had experience working at a maid cafe in Akihabara Tokyo and had the idea of playing hard rock in a maid costume. That's why the band was named Band-Maid. "Thrill" was their first music video in 2014, played 2 million times in two weeks and saved them from breaking up. At that time they were just around 20-23 years old. And then they have been doing LIVE overseas and increasing their fans. Now they are writing, composing and arranging all the songs. 30 songs have been released on their official KZread, all of which are killer songs. Band-Maid's online full live has been announced. From 16:00 on December 13th (Japan time). The new song "Different" will also be performed. Full scale live is probably about 2 hours. bandmaid.tokyo/contents/376042 They will release a new song "Different" on December 2nd and a full album "Unseen World" in January 20 next year. It was announced that the new song "Different" will be the theme song for the animation "Log Horizon 3rd season Round Table Collapse" that start in January 13 next year on NHK E-TV (educational broadcast) Japan. Official KZread kzread.infovideos?view=0&sort=dd&shelf_id=2126 For hard rock, "DOMINATION" "Secret my lips," "Rinne," "DICE." "PLAY." and "Onset." ( "DOMINATION" is the 22nd song of 23 live songs. 2020 2.14 Shibuya Tokyo LIVE) For ballads, "Wonderland ," "Endless story ,"and "Daydreaming" For a fun live, "FREEDOM(Live) ," "CROSS", and "Choose me" Japanese style "Secret maiko lips" and "GION-CHO" My most favorite songs right now are the "Puzzle" band version and the acoustic version. Next, their latest Live work "PLAY" 2020 2.14 Shibuya Tokyo Live would be good. For studio music videos, "Rinne" is a good choice. (^^♪ BAND MEMBER Miku Kobato : Side guitar, back vocal, lyricist, band founder, Public relations officer, Kobato is a small pigeon! Saiki : Lead vocal, the youngest, and member call her a teacher and she make various decisions. likes bullet trains. Kanami Tono : Lead guitar, composer (prolific genius), good at piano. hobby is reading. good at making sweets. Akane Hirose : Drummer, band leader, good at funny faces, She is a big eater. She loves anime. Misa : Bassist, stage drinks are liquor, play with bare feet. She is the most shy and reticent. good at cooking.

Drummer (Akane) -- this is a music video and in most of Band-Maid's videos they use a smaller kit for the videos .... on the live video's she uses a full set and she is one of the best drummers you're going to find ... like the guitarist (Kanami,) and the bassist (MISA) they are not the 'fastest' or most technical on their instruments, but they are indeed great, and what they lack in 'world's best on their instruments' they more than make up for in being the 'tastiest' musicians playing the tastest rock music on the planet. Yes, you do need to check out their live stuff because there's definitely where they shine ... there are some recent pro-shot videos of their live concert this year (search for Band-Maid Feb 14, 2020) and any one f those videos will show you just how awesome this band is live (although there are several great fan-shot videos, that if you want to watch and take into account the audio 'mixing' might be lacking, you can still tell that they are one incredibly tight band and that their pro-shot videos are not 'faked' with post-production tricks. As a general rule, Miku the backup vocalist writes all the lyrics (native Japanese speakers consider her a great poet, not just in the meaning of the words, but in the way she writes in a style that adds some western vocal 'inflections' that are often missing in Japanese songs. The lead guitarist writes and arranges most of the music (last year or so she has started demanding the other members get involved and she is mentoring them on arrangements and things are only getting better and better) and she is just incredible. Her sense of melody and layering is beyond anything I've ever seen out of one person.

This was a great reaction to the song that hooked me into band maid. Not the first I heard or my favorite but I’ll never forget the feeling I got after hearing DICE which was ok now I NEED to hear more! MISA the bass player seems so polite and reserved off stage ( pretty much all oft them actually). But yeah I feel you , on stage she reaaaalllly has a badass presence. But yes the lead guitarist Kanami, i feel in love when she effortlessly dances around while shredding. Pretty sure her piano experience lends itself ALOT to the fretboard

You wanna see Saiki (lead vocalist) unleashing her true "power"? Watch Domination Live (February 14, 2020), Wonderland Live (February 14, 2020), and Blooming music video. Also in those videos, you'll hear another stellar performance from the 4 musicians, so you'll get all you want :) About you pointing out that Kanami (lead guitarist) might be playing something else before picking up guitar, that's spot on. In Japan, if you want to graduate from a music university, you have to master 2 musical instrument. Kanami can play piano & guitar, Akane (drummer) can play drum, piano & trombone, Misa (bassist) can play bass, alto horn & trumpet, while Kobato (rhythm) isn't a music university graduate but can play guitar under the mentorship of Kanami. Saiki was an actress and dancer, before joining Band-Maid as the lead vocalist.

Rhythm guitarist (and founder) Miku fired herself from lead singer position and recruited Saiki because she loved her voice and thought it would fit their music a lot better. Technically, none of these girls may be “best of...” although they are all very good, but it’s the combination of all 5 that is really, really hard to beat. Miku only started learning the guitar from lead guitarist Kanami a bit after Saiki joined. A few years ago everyone only talked about the “Holy Trinity” or “Power Trio” of Kanami (G), Akane (Dr) and MISA (B)... but Miku’s been slowly winning people over. No virtuoso but an oh-so-integral part of that band getting more and more solid all that time. And she is basically the soul of the band supporting them on stage and especially off-stage. This band absolutely loves having fun both off and on-stage. Your favourite bassist is actually the most playful of the band but she is really really shy in front of people so she prefers to fade into the background unless she is under the influence of alcohol.

Nice reaction! I wrote a longer post on your Domination-reaction also... "Dice" is damn good song, but they excel in live performances, the MVs are good, but live is where the essence of this band really is. Dice - basically if you feel down, don't know what to do, have no purpose, get your butt up, MOVE, roll the dice and DO something (the MV kinda shows that, girl with blind-folds, sits in a dark room, has nothing to do, stands up, gets the blind-fold off, and goes into the light) 10:10 - MISA on bass is all business on stage. She is very very shy, needs to take a couple of shots - she has beer or whisky at their live shows. She plays bare-feet, wants to feel the bass, only one not playing to a click track didn't care about the maid theme since they started, changed her own outfit overtime to the style you see here 10:20 and 15:55 - Kanami (l.g.) is cute as a button irl. She is a little weirdo in all the positive meaning possible. She is playful, had ballet training as a child. Give her a guitar - she becomes a monster, take the guitar away she will be up somewhere in a field chasing butterflies ;D Started to play guitar in high-school to impress the other girls and be considered as "cool" :D Is trained on classical piano, writes most of their songs. The occasional background synth is also a recording played by her. Is also Mikus guitar teacher. 14:30 - Akane (Drummer). yes, she plays a small kit. But she gets the most out of it. Hear some more of their songs, try to listen what she is doing specifically - pure creativity 14:55 - oh boy, you've it basically right. Miku takes the supporting role on-stage. That supporting role is carried over off-stage. She founded the band (as a lead singer), writes the lyrics. She is the main promoter. She is the one doing MC, intros, talking with the audience etc etc. She also takes care of everything else in the background. She is basically the "Frontwoman" without being one on-stage where she leaves that parts to Saiki and Kanami respectively. BTW she has a much softer voice than Saiki, so it doesn't fit their style that much. But she does have a wide range, so listen closely in their lives - she goes higher or lower than Saiki where needed. They blend together so well, so she executes her supporting role perfectly. 16:50 - Saiki. A powerfull frontwoman on-stage. She is basically the captain. She has the last say to everything they do, as the others value her opinion on everything. Takes no bullshit whatsoever. Is very direct, tells everything as it is. She really doesn't care about giving interviews that much or take the front-position off-stage, she happily leaves that part to Miku. A "Frontwoman" without being one. Yeah, I know, it's kinda weird, but thats Band-Maid for you. The contrast between the maid-outfits and the music they play is on purpose. You would never expect that music-style if you're just judging them by their looks. Even funnier is, if you follow the band for some time, see their behavior and their characters off-stage... Jeez, the outfits make soo much sense XD. They are goofy, a bunch of lovable dorks. Just some best friends having fun together. Their close friendship translates on-stage

they are a different creature LIVE. :) everyone notices Misa(bass), Akane(drums), Kanami(lead guitar) in first listen. Miku(rhythm guitar/back vocals) and Saiki(vocalist) kind of grow on you. the group's chemistry is perfect. Misa is extremely shy & quiet btw, the others tend to be more outgoing. Kanami the lead guitrarist(2nd most shy in the group & split persona when playing in the groove) was classically trained as a pianist. I'd classify them as classic rock/punk rock/progressive/hard rock sometimes in the metal range. DICE's main topic was "take your chances in life"

They're all wearing maid outfits...they've just been adjusted to fit the tastes of the individual Maid. The bassist, MISA, is wearing what they call an 'assassin maid' outfit, but I've always thought it draws more from Chinese fashion and I could totally see a maid in China wearing it. Saiki, the lead singer, is sporting what I call a 'goth maid' look. The drummer Akane is wearing shorts out of necessity for drumming, so it's almost like a stylized butler outfit. Kanami, the lead guitarist, and Miku, the rhythm guitarist/backup vocalist wear more traditional maid outfits, but since this music video was filmed Miku has really embellished hers for later performances.

They are: Miku - rhythm guitarist/vocal/MC at lives. She came up with the idea, and talked Kanami into joining after seeing her play guitar here on KZread. Kanami - lead guitarist/songwriter. Trained as a pianist. Taught Miku how to play guitar and still teaches her. Initially thought Miku was weird for wanting the band to dress as maids, but loves to play so much that she went along with it. Saiki - lead vocal. Says she was tricked by the other members and didn't know she was expected to dress as a maid. Doesn't say much in interviews. MISA - bass player. Drinks beer or whisky during Miku's MC parts. Has said she hates that she has to sleep, because it's time she could spend practising her bass playing. The other members say that her outfit is that of a Croatian maid. Akane - drummer. Miku usually says during her MC that Akane is half human, half gorilla. Eats a lot, especially any food left by the other members, but easily burns it off during shows.

Great reaction! I love your analysis on the band. My last concert before the pandemic was Jinjer and it was fantastic. But since I discovered BAND-MAID (and all the japanese rock/metal scene), it's hard for me to listen to another band. However, Jinjer and BAND-MAID have some similarities. They both have lot of groove and both drummers (Vlad and Akane) have a small drum kit. Cheers

It's probably been said: Miku (rhythm guitar) is founder of the band...her concept: maid visual vs hard rock sound. She didn't play any instrument, she found Kanami (lead-guitar) on youtube, Kanami knew drummer Akane...who invited music college friend MISA...her majesty of bass! Then Miku realised her own vocals were weak and relegated herself to backing vox and found Saiki to do the necessary. Along the way they were apparently thinking of giving up on the project but, thankfully, their 'Thrill' music video got 2 million hits in two weeks...surprising them with attention from around the world. Kanami (their main composer) decided to teach Miku rhythm guitar to add more to their sound...she was just posing with guitar in the Thrill MV...but now she's good...and she's the lyricist too. Pretty good lyrics apparently...but I'm past caring that I don't understand Japanese...I just love their sound. Oh, and in their concerts she has her 'Magic Spell Time'...a chat/ personality solo with the audience while the band take a break. She's bonkers and adorable...as are all the members in different ways. I haven't liked a band this much, as musicians and people, since Rush.

You 'love a groove'? Can't wait to join you for these awesome ladies performing 'Manners' (live)! Oh, and most of 'Manners' is in English, so that should help you get into it. I may not be a youngster like you, but I LOVE this band! Every member is wonderful in her own way, but mostly it is because they are a band, not a very good (and singular) singer/guitarist, whatever that is backed up by talented but mediocre hired help. If any one of them was missing, it would be a loss for the music world.

Welcome aboard, OldSkuleNerd & Chewie You are embarking on (along with many others - over 90 million YT views!) an awesome hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Consistency (nearly 100 songs with their latest album, “Conqueror”, and a new drop coming Jan. ‘21), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destine for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off the rails spectacular. Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 50 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5inmclsfZCanLQ.html Their later songs drive even more - Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Glory, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, Marage and Smile... or more punky like Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts! And many are represented with over 30 well produced music videos. kzread.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE concerts such as Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA on February 14th (“Domination” kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5ats6WDnpnYico.html), ZEPP 2018, Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and some of the better 2019 tour Fan vids. Here’s three of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at super intimate venues. The first taken by Vladimir Chupin in Hamburg: kzread.info/dash/bejne/kZNl1spwk9fNfdI.html, the second taken by JT Dayo in LA: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zql9u6SkcdzIc6w.html, and third, JOSER8845 in LA: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p6eLvNild6qqg9Y.html. If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, CD, DVD/BD & Merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. For fun, check out an awesome, little known "Mega Band-Maid Mix" by DJ Ray of some of their earlier stuff: facebook.com/djrayboston/videos/1004709499579009 Band-Maid members are: (Ages are best est.). Saiki Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements, melodies and High Priestess mediator between the Gods (Band Members) and the masters and princesses (Fans). At 26 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Leader) as Miku calls her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away the persona. Her charisma, performance and voice focus the experience. Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 29 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kurrupo! No, no, no… KURRUPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Naw-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 29 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 29 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumRilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Assassin" - Bass, 28 years old. A sullen, barefoot, dark spirit driving her 5-string bottom-end to hell and back, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. The Mysterious One literally kills it… every note.. uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA!

Really hard to compare Saiki to Tatiana and Brittany. They are playing way different styles of music that requires way different singing styles. I mean Band Maid is not a power metal band with soaring vocals like Unleash the Archers or the guttural acrobatics and belts of Jinjer. I have fell in love with Japanese metal and hard rock. Interestingly women are way more involved from Japan. Just do not worry about lyrics just feel the music brother. Even translated lyrics can be a problem at times as Japanese is a very nuanced language. But if you just know lyrics look them up.

Thank you for calling these ladies - women\ladies! They are not girls! For all you PC people - I am not female! These ladies are talented and they deserve the respect! They are all stars - literally! MIKU is the rhythm guitar and backing vocals (others sing backing vocals too!) and the originator of this band. She writes the lyrics to all the songs. MISA is the barefoot assassin. Why would she smile?!?! - Actually she is the most shy of all these ladies - listen to PLAY and DONT YOU TELL ME Live. She plays slap and pick. You don't need to know the words, they mix english with japanese in most of their songs. Dragon Cries has all English subtitles. Try PLAY - BLOOMING - FREEZER and all of the other songs. Not a bad song in this bunch. AKANE - is a fantastic drummer. She has been recognized by Jimmy Page - Yes THAT Jimmy Page! - Watch FREEDOM to get a good look. KANAMI - Plays the piano as well. She writes the music for all their songs. All the girls have fun - Watch DOMINATION
