Mercury Lynx L Station Wagon 5 Door Hatchback 85 1.9L Ford Escort Test Drive Walk Around Video www.1OwnerCarGuy.com This is a very nice 1985 Mercury Lynx L Station Wagon that is just as clean as can be. I believe it is a 1 Owner and it only has 72K Original Miles on it. It has the nice 1.9L engine which is a good motor that runs great and gets really good gas mileage so you can actually afford to drive it. Someone took very good care of this car over the years. The exterior is very nice and the paint has a really nice shine to it. The car looks like it was parked in a garage most of the time. Everything about the car is just as nice as it gets. The body is straight as can be on this car and all the trim and moldings are clean and dry. The interior is the most impressive thing on this car. The seats are as nice as it gets and none of them really look like they were sat in much. The carpets are in the same great condition. From the headliner to door panels and dash the interior is just as nice as can be. The back seat even folds down to give you plenty of room in the back. You will be hard pressed to find a cleaner car like this. Dont' miss out.

From Wikipedia:
The Mercury Lynx was a compact car produced by the Ford Motor Company for its Mercury division from 1981 to 1987. It was a rebadged version of the Ford Escort. In 1987, the Lynx was dropped after slumping sales (although at one point, it was Mercury's best-selling car). In 1988, Mercury launched the Tracer as the Lynx's replacement. The Tracer was based on the Mazda 323, was built in Mexico and Japan (depending on model), and shared nothing with the Lynx.

My mom's first car was a Mercury Lynx. She said it wasn't your average ford escort. It's more fully loaded and has a higher quality interior than the escort.
I owned a reliable green 1982 Ford Escort L wagon with a white vinyl interior. It had a 4 speed that I loved shifting because of the neat exhaust sound it had. I loved the car so much, I bought a black 1986 Escort L hatchback with tan cloth. A few days after I traded the 1986 in for a 1991 Escort, the salesman at the Ford dealership stated that my trade-in was the hottest car on the lot. I had added a rear window louver, higher wide black body side moldings (which transformed the look of the car for the better), an AM/FM cassette radio, upgraded speakers using the existing tan speaker covers, chrome trim rings, and legal window tint on the side windows. The mileage was in the low 30,000 mile range, which didn't hurt either.
The shape of the car is just hard to believe! You can't say it, but I can: It's like NEW!!
The Mercury Lynx looks good. Just like my 1988 Ford Escort GL I have expt my have a little rust at the bottom of the door only.
I like the interior shots at the house. It being sunny out, but the car being in the shade is perfect. The house is the best place.
I was wonderin about the Cougar steering wheel too! This one brings back memories. You just don't see these wagons anymore, let alone a Lynx in this good of shape! My mom had the Escort version of this brand new back in 88. My brother and I both learned how to drive and took our road tests in it. I'm surprised the clutch never had to be replaced. Sure it wasn't a hot rod but the reliability couldn't be beat. At just about 200,000mi the head gasket blew and it got junked. It did serve well.

The Cougar symbol on the steering wheel that you were wondering about was the symbol, or trademark, of Mercury. Back in the day, it was called "The sign of the cat."

Very cool, I've been looking for an 81 -86 Escort or Lynx. This would be twice as awesome with a the Diesel they offered.
You always get the good stuff! I can't tell you how excited I get seeing clean classic econoboxes!
The interior door panels look very similar to the first gen Lexus IS300; I had no idea Ford styling was about 20 years ahead
My mom had an '87 Escort wagon GL from new until about '95 ish or so. It was a GL which means it had high dollar options like cruise control, a roof rack, and I believe a center armrest. Haha..killer options for an '80s economy car. Ran great but by no means any power especially with the A/C on. I think it got sold and rusted out around the strut towers and got junked.
Amazing car. These cars had an optional 2.0 L Mazda Diesel that would get 60mpg with the 5 speed gear box. Your wagon looks amazing.
I also appreciate you clear talking and professionalism (both in voice and camerawork) and also the time you take to talk about and show us all these oh and I love that the car is the star I imagine you have seen some the guy selling the car is almost as much part of it as the car is, ok you are important part but you know what I mean the car is whats being sold not the camraperson
Someone really pampered that car. lovely wagon!
LOL, @17:00 "...so clean don't even know if the guy sat in it while he drove it" LOL
That's one very well maintained car. I get so happy too see such maintenance after my heart. Great video. 😊👍
Nathan, The Cougar symbol on the steering wheel that you were wondering about, was the corporate symbol, or trademark, of Mercury. Back in the day, it was called "The sign of the cat." My father owned a Mercury, Bobcat just like this one; same color too!

Technically, this is a "1985-1/2" model owing to both the engine size and the improved sheetmetal. 1985MY units which were made in the fall 1984 (9/84-12/84) period still used the older-style sheetmetal and the 1.6L engine.

My Mother had an 86 Lynx 2 door hatchback years ago and also an 84 Escort wagon like this but in red.
Excelente! Muero por viajar en ese Lynx! Saludos desde Argentina.
My parents had the Escort version of this, except in baby blue. Same interior but in blue. Had a blue pin stripe even. You can tell these are 85.5's because they don't have the third stop light in the tailgate. It was reliable and took us (me, my dad, my mom, and my infant brother) on our first family road trip from Wichita Kansas to Santa Fe New Mexico. One time ants got in the air conditioner and blew all over my Mom when she used it. Fun times.
That is awesome! You NEVER see these cars!
I had a 1983 Mercury Lynx LTS 5 door hatchback, with the 5 speed and the high output motor. It was a blast to drive! So good on gas and you could move a house in that hatchback. Unfortunately, some guy crossed over into my lane one night and ran the Lynx into a curb, witch was a death knell for the front wheel drive. Had to total it. It was a sad day for me.
these cars were everywhere in there day
My Dad had a '87 Escourt and was quite a sporty looking car, never had a problem with it..Then bought a 626 in 1990
I own a 1990 escort and its a blast to drive
I really miss seeing the 70s and 80s vehicles on your channel, but I know they are getting harder to find in the condition you want to obtain them in. You just can't beat little wagons like this, big boat Mercury Marquis, Oldsmobiles, Cadillacs and stuff.

oh man, i had a grey 1984 lynx gs wagon with a luggage rack! i have had since then an 85 cavalier rs (worst car i ever owned) a 95 old cutlass supreme and now a 99 crown vic. if i could choose between any of them i'd choose the lynx no doubt! good cargo space and solid mileage. it looks in great shape! oh man, it is a little bit different than my 84 was but not much different. so glad i found this vid!!! just makes me sad i don't still have my old lynx!

Way Cool Car ,Nathan. I remember servicing These.
anytime buddy , those Lynx L brings back good memories of long road trip whit my mom and my brother aah the good old days of care free living huh those were the days .My mother had a 1986 Mercury Lynx L (L=luxury not 100% but I think ) I just hope it goes to a good home it deserves it such mint condition wow , get a good price to theses cars are rare 3 version , hatch 3 door , hatch 4 door or wagon , gas or diesel .man the lynx is my fav 80's car
Clean car man wow!!!!
gotta love a wagon :)
The diesel versions are rarer. In its final year, 1987, which was actually a short one (being discontinued that January) it was available only in the Escort GL and Lynx GS 5-door hatchback sedans.
This car is BEAUTIFUL! I mean, this car is in better shape than most newer cars on the road! It looks like it was removed from a time capsule from 1985. Awesome tour and test drive. By the way, the "L" stands for luxury, which was one notch above the base model...the L had chrome on the grille. I also agree the interior shots are best at the house. :) cheers, Nathan!
the underneath is as clean as the overneath!

No problem. Just some pointless information I retained from reading brochures my dad would give me when he was working for Ford. The 85 is a special model as a few months later they introduced a 85 1/2 model with the 3rd brake light to comply with the new law in 86. Some 85 models were even retrofitted with that 3rd brake light.
That is amazing. WOW.
WTF where do you find this stuff awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!
well dang! I was some what close to guessing the car when you had a what is it. The Lynx is RARE!
@maineindividual5202
3 жыл бұрын
identical to the escort all but the grille. On sedan and coupe tail lights are different
My first car was an '84 Lynx 2 door, silver, 4-speed w/ no a/c. Drove the crap out of it and was able to trade for an 85 Camaro v-6 5-speed. Don't really miss it, but I miss the simplicity and (slightly) better build quality of the time.
the L badging is reminiscent of Ford Europe's trim spec monikers at that time in the 70's and 80's. No additional badge at all, ie Mercury Lynx in this case would have been the bare-bones model with no a/c, manual gearbox, and probably no tachometer on the dash etc. L trim added some more creature comforts like a/c, automatic tranny, tacho, and probably nicer fabric on the seats among others. Then there was GL with more equipment yet, followed by the top spec GLX... known as Ghia in Europe
Independent rear suspension rare for a small car of this vintage.
I had one it used a ton of oil. It was running real bad one day and simply wouldn’t go any faster than 50 no matter how much I put it to the floor. After driving it all day I finally check the oil and it was bone dry on oil. Never effected it. I drove it for another year and to gave it to my cousin. He ran the crap out it for along time with out any problems
Here in Pa. I've heard that a vehicle that's over 25 yrs. old can get either "classic" and/or antique plates. Different States have different rules I guess : )
These are beautiful and cool cars. I again had to repost this because of trolls
I'm a big fan of the obscure vehicles built from the 1960's to the 1980's, they take me back to a simpler time of my life, I'm surprised it has the automatic instead of the 5 speed.
BTW... The L model designation meant this car was given a pinstripe and a chrome strip on the hood where it meets the grill.
ok I guess your right doesnt matter really still a very rare car and in really good shape too
I like this
also I WANT THOSE HEADLIGHTS NATHAN!!!
dang I was a year off on the what is it lol btw where is the results video? or is this the results video? awesome car my parents had a lynx sometime back in the early 80's and they hated the thing but this one seems to be in nice shape..awesome video

If this was say a Toyota Starlet, then yes.
Nathan, you should try to get your hands on a diesel powered Lynx (or Ford Escort) sometime. They were sold in the years 1984-early 1987.
Some European cars of this era had chimes if you left the headlights on. The Volvos had the same seat belt warning from 75 in Europe as did in the US. It also had a buzzer if you left your headlights on. Interestingly it's silent if you both leave the key in the ignition and the headlights on. The Euro Mercedes 124 is the same. But if you take your keys it starts to make noise. My 09 W211 Mercedes also is silent if you leave your keys, but dings as a US car if you leve your lights on.

Not uncommon, base carb 1.9 was more to make it palatable with the auto (if he had an auto tranny equipped one) in the city, then to be a highway runner.
It is actually an 85 1/2.
they do, usually lights on and irritating seat belt reminders. We don't usually have the key in/door open chime in europe though...
woo you broke the half hour mark. i'm waiting for the one owner car guy movie. I can see the intro now..... It began as an love affairs with cars at an early age and now it's become his passion. He will stop at nothing at giving you the best price on a one owner car at a . Some people call him crazy for selling good cars this cheap. Others call him a car salesmen prodigy, but the only thing matters to him is your total car satisfaction. He is One Owner Car Guy and he wants to sell you a car.
yes the are both typesof cats so quite similer in that way too
Ps I think the Cougar logo was meant to show some resemblence to the Mercury flagship..I dont know its a badge :)
I like the car. Where's it located at? How much?
My first car was an '84 gs wagon. I've driven and owned other cars but, I would love to drive around another mercury lynx gs wagon as a day to day driver. Edit: i see drivers dissin the lynx wagon... They will pay... Someday someway.

With good reason. Had 85 1/2 big disappointment. Slow, unreliable, rust prone, ill equipped, mediocre build quality (the plastic grill could be moved back and forth), noisy . No standard passenger side mirror, rear wiper, cruise. No wonder by then, Civics and Corollas led to its eventual demise. Mercury tried with the Tracer, by then too little too late.

Did you sell this beast?
looks like he caught the seat belt in the door judging by the bend?
No stereo demos anymore?
Wished i lived closer so i could buy one of your rareitys,if i spelled that right.
No problem.
Reason why they're cutting you off its cause they see a old station wagon and they think it's too slow (In reality people got no passion) they gotta hurry in their own little world. I also get lots of cars passing me cause I own a 1985 Nissan Sentra (69 HP) slowest car in town. Never race it and abuse just slow and takes time to get up to speed I got passion with my classic, maintenance and care ❤

ya that was in a garage, nathan. Every single one of those dings are from car doors -_-
Wholly shit man you have no idea how identical that interior is to my old 1989 fore escort! Mind Blow same 1.9 116 cu 4 cyl to great gas Milage mine was a stick though, is that on carbureted or throttle body like mine was? And damn those had over heating issues the electric fans were half re called in the mid 90's although yours might be a belt driven fan as it's older, is it?
its as close to new as you could find one at least for sale that for both the Mercury and Ford models
