Mercedes-Benz E500 (W211) 4Matic ENGINE MOUNT Replacement - DIY

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Replacing both motor mounts on my Mercedes-Benz E-Class (E500/ E550 4matic). The procedure is similar on any W211 4Matic equipped with the M113/ M273 V8 engine or its closely related V6 version, code M112/ M272. Be aware that changing the engine mounts on RWD models may require detaching further components.

    Great to see this is, another option, 👍 rather than removing the exhaust or alternator , and some remove the front suspension wish bone..

    @@AUTOdidact77 True. I will not be able to take the mount out through the wheel well like you did. I will have to either remove exhaust or remove alternator + a/c compressor. *sigh*. I might opt to do it via exhaust.

    I don't think so. The model year won't make a difference but I guess the completely different suspension setup (of non-4Matics) would prevent the mounts from coming out as shown... Thanks for watching!

    W211 motor mount for smaller engines looks different. In some videos it looks like they have compressed down by not less than 15mm vs yours by 5mm. Was your E500 have an subtle improvement in smoothes or lesser sound intrusion which is well worth doing it?. I plan to get my mechanic to change it along with few other parts. My car I bought it 18 months back and without any service records. My mechanic says it is in reasonably good condition and he says change parts only when required so that not to inccurs repair cost when time is not yet due. However I do not mind to gradually put in total USD5500 for parts & labour small fixes and workshop is just 6 miles away. I am now aware more that inter relate fixes, done in batches, need to be well plan & no rush to keep cost down. Piece meal one fix at a time will push up total cost. Thanks. Regards.

    Actually it seems the old mounts were still good on mine - no improvement at all... My (vibration) issue seems to come from somewhere else, so I´ll try the rear mounts next. Thanks for watching!

    I can´t tell you because I don´t own one... The procedure is very special on each MB application, but simply take a look inside the wheel well: If the mount is visible from the outside already and not evidently blocked by suspension parts, it could be achievable that way. Btw: You may need some offset socket extension to access the upper bolts on the W204.

    This may be a silly question, but may I ask why you jacked the car up partially before driving it up on the plastic ramps?

  • @AUTOdidact77

    @AUTOdidact77

    Жыл бұрын

    Actually I wanted to use jack stands only which had enabled me to remove the lower cover AND change the mounts easier with the car in an upper position (turning the wheels would have been possible on stands but wasn´t on the ramps...). However, soon I lost confidence in my floor jack and changed my plans. Thanks for watching!

    You are the first person i've seen do this with an actual engine puller or whatever that machine is called. Is this better than jacking up by the oil pan?

    It's an engine hoist. I already had one on hand (from my Jaguar project) and was afraid to damage the oil pan as well, so why not use it?

    STRUCTURAL FRAME or removable SHIELD?? : my car is a 2008 e350; IN YOUR VIDEO when you have the front wheel turned and can see the engine mount, well, my car has something blocking that view, its is either STRUCTURAL FRAME or removable SHIELD; it has what appears to be an aluminum shield that surrounds the interior of the engine blocking the view from the wheel well. Can you shed some light on if what's blocking that view is the FRAME or is it a removable shield? the shield appears to be welded in place or some kind of adhesive that looks like welding please help

    @@AUTOdidact77 ok, I see that this shield is aluminum and it is screwed in where the head of the screws is accessible from the wheel side after removing the wheel well liner. IN YOUR VIDEO it appears that this aluminum heat shield surround HAS BEEN REMOVED, allowing for the direct open view of the motor mount. With this shield in place, the view to the motor mount is blocked. CAN YOU CONFIRM THAT THIS ALUMINUM SHIELD WAS REMOVED ALLOWING VISIBILITY AND ACCESS TO THE MOTOR MOUNT FROM THE WHEEL WELL?
