    Just finished the job on my W221 with the m273 engine. The old mounts were crushed and leaked fluid all over the floor and my clothes lol Thank you so much for this tutorial dude!

    I'm amazed that you accomplished this on an m273 without removing anything. Didn't know the engine could be raised that high! I was ready to pull my alternator & ac compressor, or drop a portion of the exhaust.

    Try driving one with bad mounts. Gas it a Lil too hard and the motor will damn near clear the hood. Lol

    You won’t be able to do it on a 2007 S550 base model. You will tear your AC compressor and your radiator apart. Because the hose that connect from Compressor to radiator is too short.

    Looking at your video, engine seems raised very high. Wondering if can remove the bottom engine mount bolt first, then remove the top bolts when I after the engine raised. And install it in the reverse order as well?

  • @mercedesbenzspecialist

    @mercedesbenzspecialist

    You could, but why? The mounts will most likely spin when you are loosening the top bolts. With the weight of the engine on them, they won't spin.

    Thank you for video. I was intending to change the gearbox and engine mounts for S400 hybrid 2011 with 6 cylinder engine. I bought the parts and the workshop replaced easily the gearbox mount. However for the engine mounts they told me that the job is more difficult since more parts have to be dismantled in order to reach the mounts. Can you help me please with an advice in that respect? Is it really necessary to remove more parts in order to replace the engine mounts? Thank you

    I’ve never done the engine mounts on a S400 hybrid. Is it a 4MATIC? The 4MATIC is more time consuming.

    Excellent video very descriptive. I am having a lot of vibration only when in idle in park... once I go into drive it goes away. Would this be the mount? I don't have any lights on or rpm fluctuations. I was getting ready to do this on my w207 e550 which I think should be the same procedure as you did here. I am impressed with how you did this without removing many components.. many other vids showed removing the exhaust components or even the axle. I am a little wary about lifting the engine from the pan but I guess this is the only way? Also would removing the rack and pinion help at all? I need to change mine so was wondering about doing these jobs at the same time. Also was wondering why the MAF sensor came out it didn't look like it was obstructing anything...... Lastly, lol would it be better to securet he mounts from the bottom before you lower the engine to ensure it lines up properly?

  • @mercedesbenzspecialist

    @mercedesbenzspecialist

    It's likely the mount. There is a sure fire way to test the mounts. It's called the "power brake test". With the car in drive, hood open, you depress the brake pedal very firmly. Then depress the throttle. If you see the engine jumping up from the driver side, you know your mount is collapsed. Yes if you removed the rack and pinion you would have plenty of room to get the mounts out. The MAF comes out because as you lift the engine, the MAF starts to rub against the firewall, it's made of plastic so you can easily break it. Trust me, remove the MAF. No securing the mounts from the bottom first doesn't help. When you lift the engine up it doesn't lift straight up, it lifts up at an angle. It comes down at an angle, so it's best to keep the bottom mounts loose. You can put the bottom bolts in, just don't tighten all the way so you have wiggle room.

    @@mercedesbenzspecialist cool I think I’m armed with enough info to do this. I did do the brake test and could see significant jumping. Also can feel what I think is the engine shifting when I rev in park and let off. Most mechanics I’ve showed it to say it’s not the mount because there’s no fluid leaking. The vibration is somewhat subtle. I have a w207 e550 coupe not sure if you have done it on my car but looks similar to the one you worked on and has the m273 engine. Also not sure the life on these things but I had them changed at the dealership like 2 years 20k miles ago… is this level of accelerated wear common? The ones before that lasted like ten years.

    @@Dnasty1 30k mi isn't unheard of on an M273 or many other Benz V8's so I'm told. How it's driven obviously plays a large roll. Did you also have the trans mount replaced 2 yrs 20k mi ago? If it's original, extra strain will go to the motor mounts. Not sure if it's only n/a M113's, but you may be able to run AMG or AMG Black series mounts which are beefier.

    @@RothBeyondTheGrave I actually changed the mounts myself to save money and rule it out. They were slightly collapsed but the vibration can still be felt very mildly now. I think it is something engine related because I took the covers off and watched the engine and when it does the vibration I can see visual movement like it is almost hesitating or stuttering for less than a second then it continues to run normally. This is the cause of the vibration but I’m not sure specifically what it is or where to look. I’m thinking maybe some Evap leak maybe? As I hear a high pitched beep when the engine runs. Maybe the throttle body? It’s hard because I have no codes and actually never have with this car astonishingly enough.

    @@Dnasty1 very interesting to hear. I also have a 207 chassis, an E350 w/ 3.5L m272 so same architecture. We basically have the same experience. Did my trans mount about a yr ago which helped alot, but 1st owner did motor mounts & they're still good, yet I had the exact symptoms as you & questioned it. Also as you said, our vibration I believe is either related to the ignition system or dreadfully, the timing of the engine. I've done all of the common issues on our chassis (short of the esl & comand knob), & fear 2 things. Valve stem seal failure letting oil into the combustion chamber fouling plugs or a stretched timing chain/failing chain tensioner. Both not unheard of. I had to do valve cover sealant due to my old plugs being drenched in oil & was told it was due to blowby. I believe that as these pcv systems aren't the best & I have no smoke from exhaust or oil loss. I do however have a MUCH louder cold start chain rattle/buzz sound. A very short rattle is normal on cold starts as oil pressure builds up & lubricates, but mine is noticeably louder, longer, & more frequent. Perhaps it's time for both of us to inspect the timing marks? I believe they are behind the 4 cam sensors located on the timing covers. (The smaller sensors, not the magnetic adjusters). Seems these engines have some serious issues that can somehow not effect performance/longevity, yet make some scary noises & symptoms!

    This doesn’t work on my 2007 S550 base model. My s550 have to loosen or remove steering rack or remove exhaust down pipe. Or remove ac compressor and alternator. If I jack up engine too high the ac compressor hose will be torn out from radiator without removing those Mention parts that is in the way. My AC hose from the compressor to radiator is too short . If that hose is longer I can jack the engine a little higher to remove the engine mount without removing parts. My engine have 120k and everything is falling apart. Everything is broken. This piece of shit car give me so much headache. It needs Constantly fixing. A work of advice don’t buy this old use Mercedes. It’s not worth your time and money.
