    Just completed my motor mounts and transmission mount. I had to replace my alternator so it was super easy to remove the right side passenger via the opening of the alternator. Also jacking up the motor makes it easy to remove the alternator as well. The left side driver side, if you jack the motor high enough and like you did lower the steering rack, the mount does go in easy taking off the rubber cover and then putting it back on. Really appreciate this tutorial and you save me time and money. All the best to you.

    Damian, very useful, and thank you for the level of detail provided. One quick question: when dropping the steering rack, did you have to uncouple the steering wheel link on the top? Thanks

  • @damiankikolski

    I did not, you don’t have to and it’s one less thing to mess up when reassembling. I’m sure it would give you more room if you did.

    I have a 2013 S65 AMG w221. With the turbos in the way I dont think I can jack up like you did and have enough room to hold the top 16mm nut of the engine mount. Another KZreadr had to remove the air boxes and intercoolers on an S65

    It's even easier if you just remove the wheel liners. You don't have to do any of this. Just remove liners and jack up engine slightly.

  • @damiankikolski

    @damiankikolski

    Жыл бұрын

    Pretty sure that’s only on the 4Matic cars you can do, on RWD I don’t think there’s access behind the liner if I remember correctly.

    How was the range rover? I found the exact same model in black for 3.8k euros. As a first car it would be sick, I will only use it in the weekends and drive family around for groceries, casual stuff. Was it expensive to take care of for issues? Gas mileage is not a problem for me

    Wow!!! Lifting on the oil pan???!!! I would NEVER suggest that!!! Sure it didn't break thru this time but you are really taking a HUGE gamble!!!!

  • @damiankikolski

    I wanted to show the cheapest way most people can do it, you can definitely use a engine hoist, but when you distribute the weight with wood evenly across the oil pan its perfectly safe to use a jack, did a bunch of research on this.

    I am going to install these mounts in the near future. I can't follow your instructions for mount orientation because you say nothing about the metal tab in the top of the mount. Seems like there would only be one way to install the top of the mount as the tab needs to go in the corresponding opening in the frame. You say nothing about this tab? If I get the bolt in the top loosely I should be able to rotate the mount until I feel it fitting into the tab opening. Comment?

    Hello Damian - Thanks for sharing this tutorial. Nice to watch the wiki "alternative" method on video. On the steering rack, how have you kept the rear 18mm upper nuts from spinning? They're located deep inside the body frame channel and there's little room to insert any tool there... Michael, FL

    I have this same question. I broke the initial lock but can’t do anything past that. My assumption is the use of the 1/2 inch impact gets past that need

    @@jacobexplainsitall3504 Hello Jacob - The "author" of this repair process has never answered my question, which regards one of the most puzzling steps of it. The solution is to slip a 18mm flexible ratcheting wrench into the pockets (holes in the aluminum front axle carrier beam) located besides these steering rack attachment plate bolts. These pockets have been designed for that purpose. This way you'll be able to lock the upper nut. You could also use a torque wrench adapter, cut a cheap combination wrench or even weld a short handle to a short socket. This video is in fact a copy of the alternative (to the official WIS) method found on the wiki page dedicated to the Mercedes W220. All the best in your work. Michel

    @@michelcroteau538 @michelcroteau538 So your telling me there are holes 6 inches away, in the subframe, I can just slide in a wrench into without destroying my hand, in-line with the bolts? Or do I need to get my hand in above and push it down into that channel I could feel? A swiveling 18mm combination wrench would be probably 8”-12” long. Will it work or should I just immediately cut the thing down to a particular size?

    @@jacobexplainsitall3504 A flexible ratcheting wrench can turn out to be a few inches long! If we're talking about a Mercedes W220, I gave you the right, confirmed by practice, way to do it.
