Meeting Portuguese Gypsies 🇵🇹 BARREIRO

I take a ferry from Lisbon to Barreiro, Portugal to see what fun things Barreiro has to see and explore. I meet a little old lady and some friendly Portuguese gypsies. I explore an abandoned train station and an abandoned mansion (quinta). I even find a rare Pokemon and the cutest dog you've ever seen. Also, lots of graffiti and street art as usual. Needless to say, Barreiro was way cooler than I expected and once again, NO TOURISTS.

What an interesting town! There was so much graffiti everywhere. At one point you passed a pretty big wall that had a mural of a girl and her long hair that was all gray and green, I thought it was so beautiful. 💚

What a lot of interesting things in this place. Ferry station was so neat, especially the tile murals. Love the kids book - showing all the pages. The painted people in windows was so cool. 🎠

Thanks! I loved the tile murals too. I wanted to film them because they were about the different cities you could go to by ferry, but I didn't have a chance with the ferry arriving just then.

Growing up in barreiro till my early twenties and moved from there to London the last 30 years seeing how run down the old part of town is and the industrial park makes me sad!! That mausoleum belongs to the guy who transformed barreiro from a small fishing village to one of the most industrial towns in the country. People from north to the south of the country emigrated to barreiro in the earlier 1900s. The abandoned station was the most important connection by train to the South of the country. That abandoned house and warehouses were you found the fridge "library " belong to Dutch industrialist, very important for the town. When we see the old buildings most of in art deck from 1920s we can see how beautiful they can look again like the police station that was renovated. I just hope before they all collapse somebody will have the balls to invest in the end of the day it is so near Lisbon with a good public transport connection and two bridges not far if you drive . To end the reason that barreiro is so run down its because in 90s the second bridge was constructed in montijo and we can see the development compared to barreiro that stop in time!!

Thanks Antonio, I love hearing about the history of a place from the people who are from there. I hope Barreiro can find a way to save its great history and preserve its old buildings. I loved visiting and hope to return someday soon.

👍 I really like this video one of your best yet well maybe the best of Portugal. My favorite part was at minute 10:15. Also I really like the old train station from minute 3:44 to minute 4:38. And then I really like the graffiti art that follows just a little bit later.

🪓 The hatchet art, or maybe pick hammer art, ⚒️ or maybe it was done with a hammer and chisel? at minute 15:10 is so impressive. I can't even imagine the skill that it would take to do that, it's not like you can paint over your mistakes, once it's chiseled out or a piece is hatcheted off you'd have to live with it. Very cool. It was very neat to be able to see that.

Wow, I love your videos, man… and loved this Barreiro one. Those abandoned carriages were cool! I bet some people live there. The abandoned Quinta was also so cool. Love your style. Can’t wait for the next one! Cheers from Lisbon

You're probably right about the carriages. This was only my 3rd day in Portugal of a 40 day trip. Sadly, I found people living in all kinds of abandoned places. Thanks for the nice comments! Many videos to come!

Thanks for the video, now I know where not to go 😆 this town was so beat up. Why was half the town abandoned? This place was getto, no need to spend money to see a place more beat up than the hood.

This used to be a big factory town, now most of the factories are gone, and I guess that's why it's so abandoned. I thought it was very interesting looking. Where are you from? Let me guess, Brazil?
