Mazda Wiper Blade Insert Replacements

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Replacing the wiper blade inserts on a 2018 Mazda 6, no tools required. The procedure and part numbers are the same for the 2019 Mazda 6. Sure, you could just buy a universal fit wiper blade and replace the whole thing but why not just replace the part that's worn? Plus, the original wiper blade is usually better quality and better looking than the universal ones so it's better to just replace the rubber insert. See the links below for the parts I used:
Driver's Side Insert (GBEF-67-333):
www.mazdaswag.com/oem-parts/m...
*Wasn't easy to find online, I purchased from local Mazda dealership for around $8
Passenger Side Insert (GBFN-67-333):

    I found out about this a couple of years ago and it saved me a lot of money. You would wonder why all makes of vehicles do not offer this feature. Our local dealer did not mention these and instead tried to sell us the entire set. He got miffed when I ordered the rubbers only. He asked where I found out the info. Yes it saves a lot of money.

    Hey Mike, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video. The average mechanic can do this in less than two minutes, but for simpletons like myself, I need a visual aid and slow motion ability. 😝 My old refills were three years old, and I can’t wait to see the difference in the streaking or lack there of. 🙏🏻

    Extremely helpful video. I've had no luck finding full replacements online for our 2017 CX-5, which baffles me since the clip removal mechanism seems pretty straight forward. Maybe I just missed them. In any case, this video and links were really helpful. I'll add that the rear wiper on the CX-5 also has the metal stiffeners, but they're very easy to remove from the old insert and install in the new insert. Thanks for posting!

    Thanks for posting this video. I searched all of the online parts suppliers and found several that carried these refills. The price was right, about $7 each US. I live in Ontario so some suppliers don’t ship to Canada and the best shipping cost was $24 US. So I just thought I would call my local Mazda dealer, and low and behold they have them. Passenger side (TK78-67-333) @ $7.61 and drivers side (TK48-67-333) @ $8.66. Prices in Canadian dollars. Who would have thought. Note to self. Don’t always write off the dealer for parts! Thanks for the video!

    I'll add that while I'm not thrilled to be locked into OEM priced inserts, my originals provided rather EXTREME longevity. 2 years of service parked outdoors in the sun & heat every day at work, two Chicago winters, and they cleared just fine. Their effectiveness began to deteriorate rather quickly after two years -- hard to complain about that aspect.

The only differance was I used a table fork to fish out the exposed end, because the blade was ripping off the base portion. Our Mazda doesn't have a rear wiper. If this method doesn't work on the rear then you might need to replace the whole wiper blade, not just the rubber.

  • @rbarr775
    @rbarr7754 жыл бұрын

    The Mazda3 wipers are similar, but you have to re-use the stainless stiffeners that run along each side of the insert, just like the recent (06 or so) Honda Civic. They are far easier to reassemble than the Honda's were. To remove a blade from the car, you pull its latch UP and the latch then swings open to allow the blade to be pressed back toward the windshield, out of the arm's J-hook. Easier done than said.

  • @Mikeattempts

    @Mikeattempts

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, my 2013 Civic have those stainless steel stiffeners. The blade inserts aren't too bad to replace but since there are 2 stiffeners per blade, you hafta make sure one doesn't fall out while you're putting the other one in. :)

    I'm glad the video was helpful. We have a Mazda 6 Sport and it doesn't have a rear wiper. There has to be a way to get the insert out. If there are end caps, like on the front, you might be able to pop one off. If not, then you might just have to pull to get it to release and slide out, similar to Honda. Or maybe there are little tabs you need to squeeze while pulling. What model is your Mazda?

  • @cbet25

    @cbet25

    Mike attempts ‘18 CX5. Its hard to explain without a photo but on both ends of the rubber, the channel for sliding is filled in with rubber a 1/4” to prevent it from sliding off the rail either way. There’s no end caps so without cutting one end of the rubber off I don’t think it can come off and really don’t think I can put a new one on unfortunately without breaking the wiper.

  • @Mikeattempts

    @Mikeattempts

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@cbet25 I looked up the rear wiper blade. First, make sure you've removed the wiper blade from the wiper arm. Next, pull the very end of the insert away from the blade, to make it curve out just enough to clear the stop at the end of the blade and then you should be able to slide the insert out. Let me know how it goes.

    @@Mikeattempts I hope this link works for the photo. Wife has the car at work but this is the replacement where on the car there's a wire that goes in the channel but on either end are these solid parts that prevent it being slid off either way if that makes sense. ibb.co/WcrBSVG

  • @Mikeattempts

    @Mikeattempts

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@cbet25 Yep, I see the picture and I have 2 guesses. #1, Similar to my previous reply, grab that rubber tip and pull away from the plastic blade just enough to make it curve to clear the stop at the end of the blade. Try both ends of the insert because it might only work from one end. #2, squeeze the end of the metal ribs (wires) while sliding the insert out. Again, try from both ends. The ribs are there to stiffen the insert but they might also act as a lock. You will reuse them on the new insert.
