How to Fix Annoying Windscreen Wiper Juddering for Good!!!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I show you how to Fix Wiper Blade juddering (Chatter) I explain the basics and how beginners can stop them from making that horrible noise. By following this tutorial you should be able to resolve the issue you may not need to replace your windscreen wipers.
Other Reasons why you may have Juddering Wiper Blades:
1. Dirty or Contaminated Windscreen: Dirt, debris, and other contaminants on the windshield can create friction and prevent smooth movement of the wiper blades, leading to juddering.
2. Improper Installation: If the wiper blades are not installed correctly, they may not sit flush against the windshield, causing juddering as they move across the surface.
3. Worn Windshield Surface: A worn or pitted (Stone Chips) windshield can disrupt the smooth movement of the wiper blades, causing them to judder as they encounter uneven areas.
4. Weather Conditions: Harsh weather conditions, such as extreme cold or heat, can affect the flexibility and performance of the wiper blades, leading to juddering. Remember these are made of rubber so the temperature can play a huge part.
5. Oil or Wax Residue: Residue from car wax or oil-based products on the windshield can cause the wiper blades to slip and create juddering.
6. Rusty Wiper Arms: Rust on the wiper arms can impede their movement, leading to juddering as the blades struggle to move smoothly.
7. Weak Wiper Arm Springs: Worn-out or weak springs in the wiper arms may not provide enough pressure to keep the wiper blades in constant contact with the windshield, resulting in juddering. A mechanic should be able to resolve this.
8. Incorrect Wiper Blade Size: Using the wrong size of wiper blades for your vehicle can lead to improper fitment and juddering.

The wiper arm is the problem, not the blade or glass cleanliness. Those are just temp fixes. You have to remember the arms are a thin metal exposed to the elements and constantly expanding and contracting and twisting as the temperatures change. You can use 2 adjustable wrenches to slightly bend the arms back into place so the blades sit against the windshield perpendicularly.

You may be generally correct, but I have this issue on a brand new car (1 month old). I have ceramic coating (done by a detailing center) on the front window, so looks like this is causing the issue. Maybe the wipers need to be treated as well.

Great vid as always Dave. The thing I struggle with the most is not having a pressure washer. I use the garden hose with an additional attachment which gives a bit of extra oomph…but obviously doesn’t compare. I never feel like I get a proper deep clean, especially the tyres, wheels and wheel wells.

Garden hoses use more water than a pressure washer so it's definitely better for water consumption getting one. A huge part of the clean is the chemicals so the hose isn't impossible but definitely invest in decent products

Great video Dave, loving the new unit based content as much as the mobile content. Very interesting subject for me, having recently applied Glaco Ultra, and still having wiper judder, where there wasn't really any before that, just a soft squeak near the bottom of the windscreen now and then, as the windscreen was drying but not dry, strangely was better when dry! I washed the car as normal, used a a Stanley type blade on the screen with glass cleaner as lub (same as Ammo NYC used) followed with clay bar, then Glaco Compund. I applied the Glaco Ultra, wiped off clean with a dry microfibre and left the car garaged overnight, basically followed all the instructions to the letter. I was gutted the next day when it rained, and the wipers were horrendous, juddering and skipping, making a horrible noise. I fitted new wiper blades as these were over a year old (always have a new set waiting) and it was a lot better but still not perfect, still getting a little judder occasionally and a little smearing too. Your tip of applying some to the wiper blades, I have heard of before, but I didn't do that, so that my be the key here. Great result with yours, nice and quiet now

On a complete tangent…I extended the usability of my K4 today till I get one of AVA’s new machines, as I bought and have received the AVA stubby when I found it comes with a Karcher adapter included. Already had the jet adapter which again fitted straight in the Karcher style fitting in the nose. One fix that works for me, is to use Glass polish (Autoglym). I only get juddering at the bottom of the windscreen, normally where the wipers sit and just above, but the other 80% of the glass is fine. A clay bar and clay bar lube should do the trick as well. I also use a hydrophobic glass cleaner. I know you don't like them, but they work. I don't use any of it on the wipers itself, as this causes, my Bosch wipers to judder, just plain water on the wipers every two or three days, and yes, loads of black dirt on your cloth. After a few days, I also spray water on the glass cleaner/sealant, on the sides, this brings up the glass clean again, without using more product, with glass cleaner cloths. Some cheap microfibre cloths leave their lint on the glass, glass cleaner cloths don't. Also, try The Pink Stuff around the exhaust tips or white vinegar, cleans them like new. Pet hates? Wheel cleaning. Do you take the wheels off (not practical in most cases, but the best method), and clean them properly, inside and out, what products to use, TFR, ceramic coating on wheels, what tools, what processes, tyre cream or just tyre dressing, sit on a chair or knee pads? What products don't work? What a minefield, just the wheels can bring. Maybe worth doing a video on all the techniques and products.

The gent on their stand recommended that the older one may last longer but the newer design , as you used , makes it easier to apply the product in his view. Not sure if hes right or wrong I just know its bloody good stuff and one I enjoy using . For me products like this are essential as a safety aid for better vision and to clear the water off the screen faster. Would you suggest applying any sealant to the wipers as Ive heard others say it can ease wiper wear and juddering . But whats your view on that ? As for the pain in the **** jobs , for me its the lower sills and around the lip of the arches where the crud gathers and if isnt moved can start rotting the lip .

In Texas it's hot 105 F degree or 40C degrees and detailing in the heat and direct sunshine sometimes isn't an option. Do you have any videos or products that can be used in direct sunlight? Hi I used glaco glass compound to remove all contaminants off the glass and applied glaco soft 99 on it, changed out to new wiper blades. Still juddering and shaking non stop under the rain. Super annoying and it squeak as well. Using the soapy wash fluid helped remove the noise for 2 seconds and it's back. The wiper arm is 90 degrees straight, I have also coated the wiper blades with a layer of glaco like you mentioned. Help..

One other thing that can cause juddering is if the wiper arm is twisted. In some cases you can just use a pair of pliers to tweak them. The wiper blade needs to be able to flick slightly from side to side evenly as it changes direction. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qWR9j9GbdtCndKg.html

I've just spent ages getting the car and wheels cleaned and dry, only to find that after the first drive all the rust from my rotors have been deposited onto my black alloys turning them a yucky mustard colour! Are there any products you can use as part of the wheel cleaning process which prevents this from happening? I tried everything to stop my driver's side wiper from juddering but finally found it to be lateral play caused by wear of the plastic area where the J hook wiper arm is passed through the blades. Oddly, the one on the passenger side is much tighter, even though they were changed at the same point in time. I'm using aftermarket aero type wiper blades, not the metal spring type that were the originals. I only ever sleep with women and sometimes feed the jackdaws. Not simultaneously mind you. Juddering wipers absolutely drive me crazy. My current car s Skoda rapid which I have had for 7 yrs has been the only car I have ever owned that has had such an issue like this. Despite being very fastidious about car and glass cleaning only new blades seem to cure it but after a while it starts again . In fact i have given up on SKoda blades and just bought Bosch aerotwin yesterday which were actually cheaper and are extremely quiet but time will tell! The other point is i have just refilled washer bottle (including vw quantum screenwash solution) with deionised water instead of our tap water which causes lots of limescale in our taps/shower etc, so wonder if this is causing the blades to fail prematurely so will keep using it as a trial over a few months. Might try your clay bar method too as another aid.

No amount of dedicated wheel cleaner (the stinky stuff), nor every brush under the sun can rid those deep corners of grime unless youre willing to spend a whole bloody day on them! 2. Tyre browning that only shows up once the tyres begin to dry, Suddenly you're at the end of a job and the car looks terrible. 3. Tyres again! Without a blower, it takes tyres forever and a day to dry after washing. No wonder tyre dressing is the last thing to apply!
