Maytag Maxima XL Error Codes E01 F09 - drain trap cleanout shortcut!

If you're getting error codes E01 F09 on your Maytag washing machine then you've likely got a clogged drain trap. Lots of other videos show how to reach the cleanout by removing several panels on the washer. But this will show you a quick way to access it simply by tipping it back and removing the rubber flange.

You sir… are an absolute gem for sharing this trick with us. Took us 10 mins to do instead of an hour (or possibly just throwing out the whole machine 🤣)

An amazing shortcut! Thank you. I’ve had to perform this drain clean out a couple of times over the years and have disassembled my Maytag Maxima XL each time. Got this done in 15 minutes and the hardest part was putting the seal back on! Much gratitude.

Yo man, thanks for the video. The world runs on people uploading stuff like this to KZread so that we can fix stuff ourselves. This was a tremendous help.

I have the Maytag Maxima MHW6000XW that was throwing the E01 F09 code and the "Sud" code and found these videos showing how to check the drain trap. This model has the pump/drain trap in the front which is hard to access but this video shows a great easy way to get at it. It definitely works and once I got the trap out there was all kinds of stuff in there. As mentioned, the real challenge is getting the metal spring loaded seal hoop back on the gray rubber seal boot once you are all done. It CAN be done by hand, but I highly recommend having another person help hold the hoop in place at a couple spots while you do the final stretch and pull over the lip and snap it in place. I couldn't do it all by myself, but with a helper got it on the first time. Also, FYI there's another video showing another black hose to check for blocks that's in the back of the unit with clamps on both sides....it's easy to reach and worth checking for cleaning out as well.

First off, thank you for this video. If you have a Maytag Maxima XL with the trap in front like this, this by far the easiest way to get the trap cleaned (I tried going through the back panel and underneath from the bottom panel, but I couldn't get to the trap using those methods). This was the best, easiest way. But for anyone who wants to try this method, I highly suggest you go to amazon and get a spring expansion tool, because getting that wire ring and spring back on the gasket was impossible! I'm amazed you were able to do it without the tool. And make sure you get the tool that looks sort of like a clamp - forget the plier type of tools that amazon shows you first. Those pliers may work for the LG or Samsung washers, but they won't work for the Maytag size spring. The clamp style tool is about $30. Final note - beware the pads that come in sports bras. I had to remove around 6 of them from my machine! Prevention is the best solution.

Great video and tip! Also, if you’re having trouble getting the gasket + hoop back on like I was but also change your own bicycle tires, you can put the gasket on first and then use two tire levers to get the spring loop back in place. Took me about 5 minutes after I’d been struggling for 30 minutes to do it by hand, pliers, etc.

Is it weird to tell a man I’ve never met that I love them? This happens far too often and now I can get it done in 15 minutes

If you didn’t read the comments before you started the project like I did and don’t have a spring expander a lil super glue helps your sanity 😂😂😂😂

Hi, Anette. Like The prior commenter said that tool may be worth it. It took me two people and 30 minutes using a flat-blade screwdriver and lots of sweating and mumbling under my breath.

Sealing the gasket first helps a lot. I’ve never used the tool, and it takes me about 5 minutes to get the spring loaded on there.

Kind of omitting some pertinent info here . A segment where you remove the spring as well as reaching in to grab the pumps' filter is missing. I'm sorry but it's hard [for me anyway] to put any faith in this repair. Any words of advice?

I didn’t record those parts because I only recorded this to be helpful to someone out there to save them some time. I recorded the first bit about the spring after the fact to be helpful. It’s a pain to get it back on so I didn’t want to take it off twice. I got the coin trap out to clean it via the front gap. If you want to take all the panels off instead, go for it. 👍

$28 on Amazon will save your sanity: www.amazon.com/TSE-1-washing-machine-expansion-removal/dp/B08LYL2TLF/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1 Either that or 2 pairs of hands and lots of patience and cussing. :)

It’s definitely not easy. It usually takes two sets of hands and some patience to get the spring ring back around the rubber gasket flange.

How did you remove the trap? There is a red tag. So you twist it to the left? Ugh terrible video!

I don’t have a red tag on mine. Yes, I turn the face of the trap counter-clockwise or left. Sorry you don’t like the video.
