I have a Maytag MHW5500FW front load washer which was draining very slowly and at times not at all and threw off the error code F9 E1. The problem was a clogged lint trap and while there are other videos that advise accessing the lint trap by removing the top and front of the dryer, this is a much smarter and easier way of accessing the trap directly through the bottom. 20 minute job. Thank you for the video, Mr. Fix it.

Thank you so much! Bought a house 18 month ago with this washing machine. Ran into this exact issue, followed the video, and had it all fixed in no time. This WAS NOT the first video in the search list, but it should have been. Others were much more complicated. Hardest part was moving the stacking dryer off and then back on.

Double-thumbs-UP! I have a Maytag, white-face, “Commercial Technology” front load washer, the one discontinued in 2017 (I am protesting Model #’s when possible...). I SECOND other comments, notably : “Saved my bacon”, “20 minutes, tops”, “saved me $375”... Perfect use of KZread for real-life 21st Century communications; the laundry is OPERATIONAL, and this will be a scheduled annual task for THIS Mr. Fix It‼️

My husband was sure we would have to take the machine in to get it fixed. I suggested watching a KZread video and boy did we pick the right one. Our model of Maxima was slight different than yours but we a now had a general idea how to proceed. Our machine is at 5 to 6 years old and we had never cleaned out that trap. There was about $3 in change a lot debris and a 6 inch long and as as round as the tube was of wet lint he manually removed. Thanks for saving us a load of money!

Mr. Fix it, you saved my family! I have the exact washer (love it, btw) and she stopped draining. I watched one video where a guy took the door, back panel, top hatch and front panel off. I said to myself "I'm making sure the next washer has easier access." Then I saw your video and said to myself "Thank you Lord!" Husband held her while I followed your steps. Only thing different were the two body plugs on the opposite corner of the screws. I left those in place, but only slid one corner back under, as I'm cleaning this thing out every year. Ohhhhhhhhhhh the treasures were awesome! I had $0.74, a Uhaul key, tiny computer screw, numerous gum wrappers, duct tape and what I think is a paper towel. Thank you again for posting!

Thanks man. Great video.👍I've had this problem before and found a video that instructed me to disassemble the front of the machine to access this drain trap. It took my wife and me to reassemble it. We have the pedestal attached to the bottom but it shouldn't be much in the way. Also if you push the spin speed, soil level, and temperature buttons in that order of succession, and do that 3 times you can access the operation test mode and error codes. A (C00) will appear on the display and you can cycle through all the functions of the washer by pressing & hold the play button. Each function will read "C01 C02 C03 ect. Thanks again.

OMG you are the best. I watched another video of someone taking off the whole back panel. Your video is way easier by removing just 2 screws to get to the pump. I had like 3 socks of my 5 year old, a quarter, and lots of gunk. Once I found the tools it took less than 5 minutes to repair. Everyone that has the ability to do it this way will appreciate your help! Thank You!!

Thank you very much! It looks pretty straightforward. I didn't even realize there was a drain to clean. I have to replace the door switch. The part came today, and I will go in from the top to access the latch and replace it; I don't want to take the gasket off.

  • @andrzejtaramina2709

I have what looked like the same model and it did the F09-E01 error thing, which means problems draining. Water in the tub. Checked the drain hose...not clogged or kinked. Washer finally ran a spin/drain cycle....moving it around probably dislodged stuff in the drain trap enough to empty it. I'll check the trap, 'cause I suspect that it's got a ton of crap in it after almost 10 years of use. Problem is, the washer is on a pedestal and the pedestal has a hard, non-removable top. Great design, Maytag.....with the pedestal on you can't get to the bottom washer panel. Ugh. Got my neighbour coming over to help me tilt it over safely, so I can remove the pedestal and finally get to the trap. WTF they didn't design easier access to the drain trap AND document this procedure in the user manual escapes me. Well....actually it doesn't escape me...they want the revenue from service calls. Not impressed. OK....after taking off the pedestal and the bottom panel (plastic one-way push retainers in two corners, really?) the pump unit was off to the front, not in the centre like in the video. Pump was held to the frame by some slotted rubber things, which were pretty easy to disconnect, to make it easier to get to the trap plug. There as a dime and some sludge in it....not as much as I had expected, though maybe the jostling and drain cycle I managed to run prior dislodged some of the gunk. Removing the plastic corner retainers is a real pain...fortunately, you only need to yank out one. All back together, with pedestal reinstalled. Just waiting for my neighbour to return to help me lift it back up again. Looks like the design of mine would be easier to access removing the front lower panel...will investigate that a bit once I get it back upright. 4 small screws along the bottom of that panel, and if it was designed better than some of the other stuff, it may just fit in and lock into the upper panel and so may swing out if the lower screws are removed. But not holding my breath. Good I didn't hold my breath. Taking off the lower front panel would require removing the door, lock mechanism, drum gasket and who knows what else. Another stoopid design decision, Maytag. Support the Right to Repair bill, folks! Then maybe manufacturers will stop the insanity or at least cut back on dumb, hard to fix designs

Yeah, going from the bottom is easier. I've got different design though, my filter is on the front looking straight, not to the side. But after checking around I found out that it was attached by rubber pads and can be easily moved out. Not that straightforward, but I would say significantly easier than front method where you need to disassemble half of the machine including front panel.

@@donaldberry6571 it's a bit of an older model. I had to remove the rubber seal/gasket from the washer, then I could get the front door off (had to unhook the electronic sensors from the door) had to remove the top control panel too. The front door assembly had to come right off and only then could I get to the filter which was full of disgusting crap (metal shards, money, etc). Getting the rubber gasket thingy back on took 30 minutes, the outer seal metal device thing (with the spring) was insane to get back on. Took all morning (3 hours).
