Maximum Value PC Build by a Software Engineer - Complete PC Build Guide

Ғылым және технология

I am the QuanticDev, a senior software engineer with education in semiconductor physics and electronics, and today I will show you my recent maximum value PC build. I am a long time Mac and Linux user on the laptop side for my software engineering tasks, but I am tired of the fan noise. So, I decided to create a desktop build and get the maximum bang for my buck, while retaining great upgradability. PassMark benchmark software has a great website where you can keep track of the price/performance index of CPUs and GPUs that are available on the market, so I used that to choose the components. Keep in mind that PassMark is a synthetic benchmark, so it will match workstation workloads like programming and graphics design better than gaming.

Here is my guide for installing Manjaro Linux for scratch and preparing it programming: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aHVs1NmRYq2YeKQ.html Also I forgot to clarify my mobo choice so here it is: X570/B550 mobos are slightly more expensive than X470/B450 counterparts, but they are future-proof and have excellent VRMs (voltage regulator module) in general, so you will be upgrade-safe. Also, I went with a full-ATX mobo for future expandability, which should come in handy for future media work.

Nice build! If someone is looking for a more portable solution I strongly recommend for going with AsRock Deskmini X300 motherboards. I managed to get a Ryzen 4350G/32GB DDR4/256GB SSD build for just under 700$ (not including keyboard, monitors,..etc). Surprisingly for me I had less issues with Ryzen Graphics than with Nvidia on Ubuntu. The thermal performance of the noctua cooler is also very good, no matter how much stress I put on the system.

Yes, I highly approve of AsRock Deskmini AMD series. I actually strongly considered buying one of those and be done with it instead of assembling one myself. I ended up with a big chassis just in case I needed massive amounts of storage in the future. X300 looks especially good, since it seems to have support for latest gen Ryzens. Enjoy!

Glad I found this video, I have been struggling to find good resources for figuring out a PC build that isn't either "gaming" or "web browsing build for your Grandma". Why did you steer away from Intel?

Exactly what I was looking for. Almost every PC build is like gaming ones or budget gaming ones. Few questions, - why Ryzen 5 instead of 7? - is it necessary to have a discrete GPU, if I don't game on the PC and no video editing, etc? Or is integrated okay?

You can buy a CPU that has built-in GPU like Ryzen 3200G for $100 and you will get amazing value. I have a GTX 1060 in my computer, that is never used more than 10% so choose the lowest graphics card you can if you are not planning on doing graphics/gaming. Good luck.
