MAXIMIZE Your 2-Foot Jump w/ Block Foot Position - 3 Different Angles of Influence

www.projectpureathlete.com/shop/ for a FULL List of PPA Jump Programs and Services.
In previous videos we talked about the Block Foot and what its role in jumping is. Understanding its purpose is one thing, but knowing how the application of it can influence the outcome of the jump is another. In this video we take a look at 3 variations of block foot application for the 2-foot jump.
1) Parallel to the Plant
2) Slight Medial (toward midline) rotation
3) Excessive Medial rotation
I would recommend that new jumpers DO NOT play around with excessive rotation of the block foot out of the gate. It's important that the upstream joint structures have sufficient stability and integrity.

    @Project Pure Athlete - This video is different than your others in that most of the time you recommend the out-toed version of the block step. Here you've given us 3 different versions and the context for each. So, I'm wondering if there is a problem with teaching all 3 variations to all jump-oriented athletes (volleyball/basketball/etc) with dedicated drills for each 3 variations?

  • @jumpguyty

    @jumpguyty

    3 жыл бұрын

    Applying a linear block isn't as efficient as a block although it will do the job in certain situations. It's all very dependent upon the situation at hand, angle of approach and specific tendencies of the athlete.

  • @PrecisionSportScience

    @PrecisionSportScience

    @@jumpguyty Got it. So perhaps we only teach the "ideal" block step version and just tell the athletes that you wont always use this and that's ok. We're just teaching you the "ideal" one because it's the most efficient and if you get to choose during the moment you're more likely to default to this then. Is that fair?

    The problem is that I’m naturally hip dominant and I bend at the hip when I do a running jump and it’s messing me up cutting my power is 2 at best I can grab 9’8 at 5’6 which sucks because I have more potential. And the block foot is messing me up to Im trying to learn to turn my hips at an angle with the foot to. 🎉 :well I’m back to update : I had a friend explain me they’d steps in person since he knew about this and he could already grab rim. I finally was able to put my whole hand on a 10 feet backboard before I wasn’t able to know I can!. Technique makes a difference!

    I thought volleyball middles want their hips at an angle from the net. Hitting is a largely rotational motion, and you want your body to rotate towards the opposing court, not away from it.

  • @roguiscell4795

    @roguiscell4795

    4 жыл бұрын

    that is when your torso comes in, once you are in the air, what dicates the rotation is your torso and a bit of your core, that is why outside hitter face their entire torso to the setter, middles face their torso partially away from the net in the setter direction, and opposites face their torso directly to the net

  • @princekamoro3869

    @princekamoro3869

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@roguiscell4795 The torso needs room to rotate right to left (assuming right-handedness), because that is crucial for generating power safely and efficiently. And it can only rotate so far to the right before you run out of range-of-motion. So hitters plant their FEET at the angles you mentioned, so that the torso has room to open up, close, and still be in position to hit to the right.
